It caught me by surprise when Tails told me about it. I knew he wasn't in the greatest health, but I thought he was getting better. Apparently not.

Cancer is a bitch.
The stress of his job probably didn't help.
Here he is in 2003 and 2005. He looked like he aged 30 years in just 10.

Good question. Isn't it just Miyamota and everyone else. Still sad. You all think WiiU is obsolete in 12 months? I got one and a modded Wii. Is the WiiU really dead?

I wonder how prepared the company was for this.
A lot of Nintendo's image is tied up with the identity of the people who have been with the company since the Famicom launch in the 80s. It is honestly a miracle so many of them are still around with the same company.
I wonder how they can reconcile their past legacies with moving forward. The transition from Yamauchi to Iwata was smooth because there was a long grooming period, and Iwata was chosen by Yamauchi long before he died.
Even if Takeda or Miyamoto takes control going forward, this will only happen again as they age and die. Not to say anything about the challenges of moving forward.
Maybe it is simply impossible.
I may be cliche saying this, but it really does feel an era is ending, or beginning to end, here.

What has Takeda ever done?
Takeda was one of the lead developers of the Wii. He was one of the leading voices arguing against making it graphically competitive with PS3 and XB360. As leader of Nintendo's R&D3, Takeda was also responsible for the battery backup of NES games such as The Legend of Zelda and the analog N64 controller. His R&D3 team also made a few games, the best known being Punch-Out!! and StarTropics.

Shocking... Man oh man. Rest in peace Iwata, and thank you for all you've done for gamers.
Kind of concerned on where this'll lead the company. Or should I not be?

In the short term, his plans for Nintendo will probably continue for a while while executive positions are reorganized.
Longer term is harder to say. Depends how much has been planned out...see my earlier post.

RIP Mr. Iwata, your legacy won't be forgotten.
This will have major effects on the development of future Nintendo titles, we can
only wait and see how Nintendo reacts.

Most likely Miyamoto was placed in just to ease tensions from the media. He's the biggest name Nintendo has, by far. That being said, Miyamoto has very little business sense and I'm sure the investors don't want HQ to be suddenly moved to Malaysia or some shit because Miyamoto took a vacation there recently.
Takeda will most likely be in actual charge of the business side of the company, at least in the short term. Japanese business moves slow but eventually the Board of Directors will elect someone they feel is more competent. Et al a business man chosen by the investors, for the investors. RIP Nintendo.
