Personally, I don't care much about what a canidate says since they ALL lie. I want Obama to win. He's a smart guy, he talks with confidence. And of course he's black. I think it's way over due that we have a president who's not white. Hopefully it makes all the racist morons leave the country.
And did anyone really think Hillary had a chance? Like people would allow Bill back in. Even if it's only as first man or whatever.

There is alot more to running a country than knowing what to do in time of war. Also, just because someone has fought in a war doesn't mean they know how to handle troop management and all that.

very true but its either obama or mccain and Mccain atleast has to know some knowledge to get Republican nomination, the only thing i have doubts in is his age. I know we won't have a good president for a long time, but i dont want free health care we have to wait months to go to the doctor, i dont want our paychecks to be drained less and sent to a country when we need it our selves. we need to hel[p ourselves not anyone else right now.

As a person I like McCain but some of the stuff he Pretends to stand for during the election piss me off. He caters too much to religious nut jobs. The same people who got Bush elected will surely vote for McCain and that's good enough proof for me that he shouldn't be President.
Honestly I doubt Obama has a chance of winning though. Most of the people who vote all the time are people who wanna push their agendas. Those people are mainly older, religious people and a good majority are racist. Simple as that. I'm not trying to say they're all racist but it's not hard to imagine the majority are. That and the whole "OMG he's black and Muslim!!!1!". The propaganda people have been pushing that as much as possible while McCain is painted as the all american (don't forget old and white) war hero. Makes me angry.

I have given up on politics. I don't care. They are all bought and paid for by the same people. There is no real/meaningful difference between any of them. I think Ron Paul (http://www.ronpaul2008.com/) is an exception. I think he is running because he wants to make things better. The others have selfish agendas. It makes me feel like my vote is worthless because there is no real choice.
Anyways because I have given up on politics I do not know much about any of this.
they are both idiots.I imagine all of the candidates are extremely intelligent. I know Bill Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. That is a very prestigious scholarship. I doubt he would marry an idiot.
40% of your salary is taxes and it goes to africa? There is not a flat tax in America. Meaning everyone pays a different % rate. Most people that pay close to 40% are probably upper middle class. Sabby would be able to answer that better than me though.
1. All of our taxes do not go to Africa.
2. I assume you are implying that our taxes go to Africa as aid. USA donates a lower percentage of our GDP than any other industrialized nation. Although since our GDP is the highest we are still the largest foreign aid contributor.
3. Most (over 50%) of our taxes fund our foreign policy (war).
4. You shouldn't make generalizations. It undermines your point.
I say hilary because when her husband was the presiden, the country wasn't in debt. We were in a surplus and he may have givin her some tips.
1. We were in debt under Clinton. Not as much as we are now but we were in debt and he had the Internet Bubble to help him.
2. Andrew Jackson in 1835 is the only US president to ever have zero debt and it was only for a portion of his term.
3. I have a problem with electing relatives of former presidents. It sounds too much like monarchies. Have we really come to the point where the most important part of a presidential resume is have you ever called a ex-president daddy. There is a presidential term limit for a very good reason. Having your son or wife run seems like cheating the system.
4. Nothing is stopping Bill from giving anyone else the same tips he could give Hillary.

Instead of just saying that's what he wants to do you need to back it up with a source of reference. If you can't back up such a ridiculous statement then don't bother saying it.
You're genralizing that; a)the poor don't work b)those who have money, do work c)all taxes will go to Africa d)all taxes that do go to Africa are to fight Aids e)that we are worse off than others
I enjoy politics and would love to discuss this like a mature adult if you're capable of doing so without painting, broad, sweeping accusations that you've imagined. The fact is no presidential candidate would make that statement if they still wished to be elected.

Are you saying we didn't deserve the food the government sent us? Yeah it was pretty embarrassing to have to use food stamps as a kid but I think it opened my eyes about how bad some people have it.
If anything we need to spend more money helping people who have no money and spend less on war and keeping rich people rich.
Obama(or any canidate) would never wanna give money to people milking the system. But it happens.
In my opinion McCain is just gonna cave to the rich religious groups and screw us poor people over.

i am not saying that they shouldn't get nothing dudebro, i just feel that if people who are lower income get more handouts they won't try to get anything. I experience this first hand, my mom is divorced my dad is on disability when he don't need it, and if the government gives that to those people they will just take it from others who need it, thus everything stays chaotic.
I guess where i am coming from is that my mom is considered poor yet i don't feel poor, we don't have food stamps, we have stuff we need, i just say that everyone shouldn't get handouts and still become lazy, my mom works hard while people in section 8 get money for sitting on their asses? thats what i don't want happen, when its rich people like football players or any sports players they shouldn't get that kind of money.. that corrupt.

That might not be what you meant to say but that's what you did say. This is what Kong was saying about generalizations.
The fact is that most of the lower class works quite hard to strive and eke out as much living as they possibly can. Do not let your vision of this be skewed by a small minority of people who wish to take advantage of the system.
Also, in my mind, I'd like to help out five system abusers and one single parent who really needs it than none of them at all. It's kind of like how the justice system, is suppose to work, it's better that a guilty man go free than an innocent one get sent to jail.

in general, its hard for independents and the like to actually win big elections, for many reasons. people don't vote independent because they think they won't win anyways (a self fulfilling prophecy). also, our country has gone on the longest with 2 political parties throughout history, so its hard to break tradition, especially since politics is, for the most part, extremely influenced by our parents/family. finally, both of the 2 major parties don't like competition, so they'll either destroy/absorb most large independents.

Speaking of breaking the two-party system, even though it could be seen as a waste of my vote, if I see Ron Paul on my ballot I will probably vote for him. My father said the same thing.
And let me tell you guys, that is a beautiful thing, because he is a "right-wing nut job" and I am a "bleeding heart liberal". We don't disagree on much, but we both like Ron Paul for lots of reasons, a big one being we want the two-system party to break.
Edit: and speaking of Ron Paul, I heard some guys talking while I was at a record store. There was a guy holding a sign supporting Ron Paul and one of them asked "Who is Ron Paul?" and the other said "Some fag who's running for governor or somethin'." It was the quote of the decade.
Kugyince

Don't feel bad Tommy. My step-dad is a member of the Christian Coalition and I'm a Socialist. ;D
Quick summery of who Ron Paul is - He wants to follow the constitution and the intent of the founding fathers as closely as possible. He has very radical/unconventional ideas that probably sound nutty to the mainstream population. He wants to remove bloat from the federal government. Move most power, decisions and laws from the federal level to to the state levels. He is the only Republican/Democrat candidate to want to admit a mistake and end the Iraq war. He wants to do away with most of our foreign policy. These are all values that I feel strongly for. When I heard about his policies I felt hope for our political system for the first time in my life. When I realized he did not have a chance I felt sad about the situation. Helpless.
Ron Paul does not want to run as an independent. He is still a current republican candidate. At this point he is not trying to win (he doesn't think he can) but he is still running with the hope of spreading his ideas.
McCain has the nominal number ... but if you're in a campaign for only gaining power, that is one thing; if you're in a campaign to influence ideas and the future of the country, it's never over.
If you vote for people like Ron Paul and other independents they will be voting for people who can not win. But they will NOT be "throwing away" their vote. When good people get votes it makes it easier in the next election for their ideas and values to get more mass media attention and eventually have a chance to win. Plus with information distribution switching from expensive TV commercials to the free Internet, I think change is closer than most expect.
I think voting for a Republican/Democrat is throwing your vote away. Vote for change. Vote for someone who can't win, yet.
IMO The old ways - media conglomerates owning all news and info distributions, big budget Hollywood movies pumping out American Pie IV, tight gripped music and book publishers strangling artists, and manipulative advertisements telling you what it takes to be happy, healthy and fulfilled - are going to be wiped away by the Internet. The signs have been there for a decade and those companies could have choose to work with the Internet but instead they tried even harder to keep their strangle hold over media and information. I think the old ways include buying elections and all of the old ways are still there. But they have cracks. They will crumble. Eventually.

They should stop putting names on the ballot, and just have a piece of paper that you write who you want to be president on.
But then maybe everyone would vote for themself...like in O Brother, Where Art Thou.
Pete: Wait a minute. Who elected you leader of this outfit?
Ulysses Everett McGill: Well Pete, I figured it should be the one with the capacity for abstract thought. But if that ain't the consensus view, then hell, let's put it to a vote.
Pete: Suits me. I'm voting for yours truly.

I don't really like either candidate. I don't think it'll make a huge difference who is elected for president. i don't believe that anyone who would say pretty much anything just to get elected is going to be a strong enough person to make their own decisions and rely on THEMSELVES to make decisions. I think they will be told what to do by powerful people and follow the advice without a whole lot of thought. I think we should be run by someone who will listen to what the American people want and follow through with the actions necessary to make what we want a reality. I don't think we would do too bad of a job making most decisions, and if we screw up at least we have no one to blame right?

I'm suprised I didn't find this earier! I love to hate politic's.
I'm glad Hilary didn't make the Democratic nomination, her husband wasn't as good of a president as the media make's it sound, I think if she would of been elected a lot of the mistakes would've been repeated (such as cutting our military strength to the bone[1/3 of what it was before hand, if my number's are right], He's could've stopped 9/11, they knew Osama Bin Laden was going to do something, he's been threatening for YEARS and we had the chance to shoot the bastard multiple time's but Bill told them not to take the shot, ect.)
My main complaint about Obama at the moment is an interview i read in Air Force Times about his plans for the military
McCain isnt such a peachy canidate either, but right now, he's got my vote(though technically i cant)
But this country need's to abolish Polititian's, and have these slot's as an honor(as in the past), not as a job just for the money, most, if not all polititian's are corrupt and liars, and that we need a lot of restructuring internally, but eventually it wll get bad enough that some sort of reform will have to happen, or the govt. will collapse because those driven by greed will not let go of the power

I'll edit this and put more later, because I can't remember all I thought of, my think so much faster than my hands can keep up with :-[

I tend to disagree, political action doesn't show full effect for 10-15 years, I think a bit of what's going on in the economy is Bill's fault, and some of what he's praised for was the President before him, and what they're accredited for is actually the action's of their predecessor, and so on so forth

But seriously the war isn't the problem its the way it been handled up to this point, and I'm just hopeful that McCain will do a better job with that then Bush. Obama just wants to quit and pull all our troops out which isn't the answer. As for Mit Romney of course I don't like his religion, but I don't think he would let that influence the Whitehouse as much as you think, plus he's more conservative then McCain, and Obama is flat out liberal. Sure he's got some good points like taxs going to companys that are moving over seas which is a problem, but his and all the demacrat's ideas about the war are way off.

I did not read this whole thread so I will just give you my opinion and sorry if its been said but as dudebro said if we get McCain it is just going to be the same old thing again old white guy who loves war and Christianity that guy firmly believes that the government needs more say in religion and everyone should be a Christian. If he gets elected it will be a huge step backwards in the two things I firmly believe in 1. Freedom of Speech and 2. Freedom of Religion.
Also he was quoted to have said "The woman’s rightful place is in the kitchen and should not be a part of the work force."
I will have to find the source for that quote but I know I read that somewhere.
So if I did vote I would vote for anyone but him.
(And don’t even think about saying if I don't vote I don't get to complain because I have every right to complain it is my choice to vote or not. I say I have the right to complain because even if I did vote my vote would not count because a person can win the popular vote (the peoples vote) but if he loses the electoral college (the senators votes) then that person loses the election so what that means is that the EC is the only vote that counts so the senators pick the president not the people. There is no need for a popular vote in the current election system)
Currently we have a two party system. Few people will ever vote for anyone except a Democrat or a Republican. That is a monopoly and it goes against our free market ideals. So vote for a new system. The third party candidates are steadily getting more and more votes and attention. They still don't have a chance of winning, yet. But if we keep voting for them then eventually they will have a chance and we will have a new system that is not monopolized by the Democrats and Republicans. Vote for change. Vote for someone that is different.

Nicely put Kong, and I totally agree.

Also show the Democrats and Republicans that they have to earn your vote. If they do not think you are willing to vote outside of your party then they do not have to care about your vote; it is just an easy freebie. They are only be held accountable when they can lose your vote.
I think this is a very crucial part of our system that has been lost. Anyone ever seen Brewster's Millions? "Vote none of the above!"

awesome movie and excellent point
But my point is still valid you vote does not count no matter what party you vote for
the electoral college is what votes in the president

I voted for Nader in '00 and '04.
That man would have changed things.
I didn't know much about Nader when he was running but I watched the documentary "An Unreasonable Man" which was about him recently. He is pretty cool.
A reasonable man adapts himself to his environment. An unreasonable man persists in attempting to adapt his environment to suit himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
