IGBY 1 rules- Each team will choose four games – send your game selections to Wolf no later than June 30th. Wolf will inform all sites of game selections upon receipt of selections. Should duplicate game selections be received, the team with the highest number of registered players will yield to the team with the smaller number of players. The smaller team will select another game

Should we change this to less games or keep it the same

I guess it all depends on how many teams there are. I think it worked well last time with 20 games was it?

I would also suggest:

1. Games played last time are out, this includes clones
2. Games that can be more or less maxed out by several players should be out - a quick look at MARP scores will verify if several players can max a game out

I vote for the same structure, but we also include Toobin' since it was such a smash hit in Yolympics. Kappa

Another rule we've had implemented for our tournaments for a long long time is that the game must be playable on a standard cabinet, which we define as single joystick and 3 buttons.

I know this leaves out games (Toobin would be one) that everyone seems to like, but it does give a distinct advantage to those that have access to original machines or custom MAME cabinets. A lot of people hate the street fighter franchise, so aren't going to build cabinets with 6 buttons on them.

Same goes for trackball games (Super Sprint, Marball Madness etc). Very few people would build a cabinet with a trackball. I know you can play these with MAME on a computer, but the game just doesn't translate well to keyboard play a lot of the time.

I agree with this rule in general, especially for single player comps. However, I feel like we can make one or two exceptions if we all agree on them since this is a team tournament. I doubt it will come up, but I would say we at least discuss if something like Vanguard or Toobin' gets submitted by a team.

Here's the rule I feel we could implement and agree on, though: No games that require input mechanisms other than a single joystick and buttons can be included. This eliminates any game which "requires" an analog steering wheel, a spinner, multiple joysticks, trackball(s), and other uncommon input devices whose functionality are not easily reproduced by keyboard or joystick + 3 buttons.

I never liked that rule. There are so many awesome games that use dials/spinners/trackballs that we never get to play, but are perfectly playable with a mouse and keyboard.

If people are bothered about others with superior MAME control setups or cabinets having an advantage then they should go and build there own, otherwise make do with what ya got, it is all just for fun remember.

Agreed this is all for fun, and Kane is echoing what I said about some games I hate seeing pulled out due to their input mechanisms. So, here's the real question we haven't established in any thread: How do we vote to decide the rules? My thought here would be to have any captain be able to put any submitted game to a vote, state their reasons in a poll thread they start, then we accept or reject it based on popular vote among the captains. That way, we can probably limit the number of games that use "special" inputs and also catch rules (like leeching limits) prior to them being a final selection we announce.

As for rule changes or reviews after the tournament starts, I think we need a 100% unanimous vote to help avoid controversial rulings. In some cases, 100% unanimous may exclude the captains of a certain team if we are voting on how to handle a team-specific situation. The goal here is to push us to get things right the first time and minimize changes after the game has started. That stills gives us the flexibility to rule out a game a week into the tournament, but it makes it really hard to do things like add to rosters later.

Thoughts?

yeah i would say 100% would be the best idea.
