Nintendo games for smartphones and tablets | Projext NX console - PC Advisor (http://mobile.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/game/3601864/nintendo-confirms-games-for-smartphones-tablets-plus-new-project-nx-console/)

Not only a new console called project nx, nintendo is finally getting into the mobile market.

Personally, I feel like they have taken too long for this and it's not surprising that a new console is announced. Hoping less of a gimmick wii u is.

NX may or may not be a home console. Only the phrase "dedicated game hardware" was used.

Might as well plan for the future. It's not like the WiiU is gonna turn things around and dominate the market.

It would have been better if they partnered with Valve.

Damn if they did that they'd destroy Sony and MS. I doubt they'd ever consider it though.

Didn't you predict way back when that something like this would happen if Yamauchi died?

Not even 3 years on the market for the Wii U before its successor is announced.

Its interesting, indeed. I'll give my thoughts on the matter when I get home and have time to read the translated conference.

I haven't kept up. The Wii U tablet controller gimmick never was a success right? Is it considered a bad idea and failure by most?

Sounds like DeNA • Home (http://www.mobage.com/) will be Nintendo's mobile developer. They swapped stock in each other's companies. Nintendo owns 10% of DeNA and DeNA owns 1.24% of Nintendo (equal value). That sounds like they are making a big commitment in each other. I don't think Nintendo has ever done that before.

nintendo is finally getting into the mobile market.

Personally, I feel like they have taken too long for this
I can see why they were reluctant. Nintendo games are a perfect fit for phones BUT they will directly compete with 3ds and they are probably very worried about cheapening their IPs' reputation. Nintendo's biggest asset is the reputation you can't go wrong purchasing a game staring Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Kong, Samus, etc. Phone games could be another CD-i fiasco for them. Short term profits are guaranteed but they are probably scared about the long term risks.

They said they announced NX at same time as the move to phones to reassure everyone they are not abandoning dedicated hardware. Sounds to me like it will be a Wii U replacement.

Sounds like they have similar plans for Club Nintendo that Xbox Live has - sync across all devices.

What do you think/hope "a brand new concept" could possibly mean? I imagine it is another gimmick and not an attempt to compete with Sony/MS on hardware specs.

I'll reply to your post kong once I'm off of work.

Dena just so everyone knows made transformers legends and marvel war or heroes apps. I'm worried that this will become a pure money grab like those games are. Basically free to play but to hang you gotta drop hundreds in competitions.

They've been talking about a successor for months. Mobile is a curious choice for
them to move to. They have their amazing track record in the past for quality
mobile platforms so I'm gonna have to give it a wait.

Even when Yamauchi stepped down as the chairmen (he felt he was too old), he still remained on the board and still had the largest say in the company (as the largest share holder) until his death in 2013. Iwata was Yamauchi's selection and as such, giving Japan's old, formal business practices, wasn't ever in any threat to be removed as Chief Executive Officer. Both Yamauchi and Iwata were against the concept of spreading their intellectual properties on competitive devices. They were/are afraid of watering down the product line, in a sense.

When Yamauchi passed away, his shares in NLC were parceled out among family members. His majority share was split up between enough family members that not a single member of the Yamauchi family still have a seat. The largest shareholder of Nintendo is now State Street Bank and Trust Company which owns 9.14% of the company. Sauce: IR Information : Stock Information - Status of Shares (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/stock/information/index.html)

The deal was in sense a partial merger/acquisition. DeNA (pronounced DNA) will acquire the right to use Nintendo IPs for their mobile division, Mobage. DeNA • Home (http://www.mobage.com/) In return DeNA will use their expertise in online infrastructure and e-commerce to "jointly develop and operate a new membership service that encompasses smart devices and dedicated gaming systems."

Nintendo and DeNA will each purchase 22 billion yen worth of stock from the other. This will make Nintendo the second largest shareholder of DeNA and DeNA the tenth largest shareholder of Nintendo. Iwata has stated that no current games will be brought to smart devices and future smart device games will be made separate and specifically for those devices with no exception to the IP.

Project NX, the next Nintendo gaming system was also announced most likely to alleviate concerns of Nintendo focusing solely on smart devices. Iwata has stated that Project NX will be discussed more in 2016.

My personal speculation is that NX stands for Nintendo Cross and that the next device will be the home/handheld cross platform device that I've predicted for years now.

From what I see on gaming sites it's considered a flop unless you're talking to hardcore Nintendo fans. Even then though people seem to agree that it wasn't this big awesome innovation besides being able to switch from TV to tablet seamlessly(I think it's this good, not sure).

For some reason I like to read console war topics and in almost every one people are just talking about MS and Sony. PC isn't a fair comparison, obviously, and WiiU is considered to be inferior because the only notable stuff they have is their IPs like Mario and Zelda. Mocking Nintendos third party support is very common.

Me personally I think they flopped. I give them credit for always trying something different but this time it just didn't catch on. I hope they get their act together and do something to repair their usual iron clad reputation for games. I may not be in their demographic anymore but someday my kid probably will be. He's not getting a COD box.

I, for one, am looking forward to some quality games to re-imagine the market as one that can offer enjoyable titles that don't insist on you paying for extra lives.

But I am skeptical as well. Pokemon Shuffle is free to play on the 3DS and it's garbage.

They're essentially physical dlc, however they're actually used for more than that in display, you also can account it to world of nintendo franchise as a money grab as well if you want to classify anything like that as a cash grab.

To me, anything non physical is a money grab when you have nothing to show for it. Not just events to get the top 5 and get an exclusive pixels.

But I am skeptical as well. Pokemon Shuffle is free to play on the 3DS and it's garbage.

i disagree. If it was a $30 game I'd agree but for it being free I think it's great. However it's freemium as it entices you to spend for more turns. Also the fact I love puzzle type games like Yoshi's cookie.

It's to not cause stock to fall thinking nintendo is bowing out of the console industry. I also think tenser is right about cross platforming.

What do you think/hope "a brand new concept" could possibly mean? I imagine it is another gimmick and not an attempt to compete with Sony/MS on hardware specs.as long as they quit the gimmicks and focus on real gaming I'll be a fan. I skipped wii u because it was a gimmick but will pick it up once prices are very low.

My personal speculation is that NX stands for Nintendo Cross and that the next device will be the home/handheld cross platform device that I've predicted for years now.

1. Nintendo did not state whether the NX would be the successor to the 3DS or Wuu.

2. Nintendo concentrated on the term "game platform" rather than "game device."

3. Late 2016 seems like an optimal time to release a new handheld to the aging 3DS and a new console to the ailing Wuu.

4. Nintendo merged its handheld and console divisions in early 2013.

5. The New 3DS mimics the controls of the Wuu. (ZL/ZR and second analog).

6. Nintendo would not have to support two devices with first party titles.

7. Both the Vita and Gamepad demonstrate that the technology now exists to do so.

8. Nintendo is experimenting with bringing console experiences to handheld devices. DKCR3D and Xenoblade.

Not even 3 years on the market for the Wii U before its successor is announced.

I'm shocked, but not shocked. I figured this would just be another Gamecube that they'd stand by for the typical duration of a console generation.

They said they announced NX at same time as the move to phones to reassure everyone they are not abandoning dedicated hardware. Sounds to me like it will be a Wii U replacement.

The first, makes sense. Message pretty well received I'm sure. That latter, maybe? I mean obviously yes, a successor, and early for sure. However maybe there is an overlap of the two. Or an attempt at an overlap. Will be interesting to see.

One could argue they are already doing that with Amiibo.

Yes and no. Yes the Amiibo bit is (I think) a pretty useless peripheral that's a money grab based off the success of skylanders. Only the features involved in Amiibo are intensely limited. Moreso high-priced nice looking display figurines. All I've seen anyone use them for in person. Anyways. Easy money grab, but they've been so questionable in the way that they've gone about business in recent time, amiibo being one fo them. Why keep discontinuing certain figurines? The appeal of "Limited time" is there for some I guess, but they'd sell more in the long run from a continued supply. From a money standpoint, why discontinue figurines is all I'm saying.

Project NX, the next Nintendo gaming system was also announced most likely to alleviate concerns of Nintendo focusing solely on smart devices. Iwata has stated that Project NX will be discussed more in 2016.

Probably a 2017-2018 release? Oddly enough, that's normal console lifespan for the Wiiu. Really doesn't seem like it.

He's not getting a COD box.

Seems about right. I personally get enjoyment out of the Wiiu. That said I really don't find myself using it much. I think I'm still under 20 hours in what would be considered the games top titles.

I've largely moved on to PC as well. Wiiu being the only console I got and will get for the first party games. I don't see much point in consoles anymore, Wiiu somehow bypassing that out of past love for the company and it's games I guess. Not happy with a lot of their business decisions though (Gamecube adapter support abysmal, Amiibos, No charger in new 3ds??).

I'll probably buy whatever this next console is for the same reason, but we'll see. I can get a lot of similar games on the PC largely for next to nothing.

1. Nintendo did not state whether the NX would be the successor to the 3DS or Wuu.

I don't pay much attention, but isn't the 3DS having massive success? At most I could see NX as a handheld just being an upgraded 3DS much akin to DS>DSi or whatever that was.

On the other hand, Nintendo does not intend to choose payment methods that may hurt Nintendo’s brand image or our IP, which parents feel comfortable letting their children play with. Also, it’s even more important for us to consider how we can get as many people around the world as possible to play Nintendo smart device apps, rather than to consider which payment system will earn the most money.

Phew? I don't know if I really believe this.

Phew? I don't know if I really believe this.

They have done some experimentation on this idea.

In Rusty's Real Deal Baseball on 3DS, the base core game is free and includes a few minigames. There are more available for purchase, but you can use in-game methods to lower the real world price of a game, and the game actively discourages you from paying full price (4$ per game).

My main thought is that Nintendo is hoping into the mobile market, while sony has only recently hopped out of that area. While id love and am happy to see more smaller games on the 3ds [like shuffle which I play every now and then but have spent no cash on.] my worry is the new platform is gonna try and compete with the current mobile market instead of making more portable small games like shuffle.
I also heard somewhere that Nintendo was gonna do the whole unified market thing Sony is doing, which has its pluses but also the obviouse problems. [like buying games for the wrong platforms or trying o find specific versions of games that are on multiple systems.]
I consider myself a fan of Nintendo.. but I really do feel that thier greatest strength is in hand held games these days, and that maybe they should focus on that area instead of consoles? [please dont hurt me for that one guys X_X]
It's just.. if ya look at how things appear to be going Nintendo has a Death grip of epic on the hand held market [which is part of whats killing the vita despite its connectivity to ps3 and 4 which in all honesty is pretty useless from my own muckings about on it.] I think thigns would go so much better if nintendo just went Handheld and made its handhelds as epic as they could be. Imagine the tech they could make if they put super focus on the handheld systems over the Console ones?

the platform I think refers to the united store I had heard about from something mom read. If ya looked at the store lately you saw plenty of 'buy this get the other version free' in the E-shop. So it might make sense to take all of the unified things, and put them all in one area. Like for example a SET virtual console program. which would hopefully let 3ds, well probably NEW 3ds [STILL A LAME NAME!] systems access more of that shop. [SNES, GBA, and DS have been teased for the 3ds before leading some evidence to my theory here]
I guess ill stop my rambles, mummbles and comments here for now.. sorry if things are spelled wrong or if I got facts wrong.. im sleepy waiting for laundry to be done so I can sleep.. I just ya know.. wanted to put my thoughts in here. ^_^

NX potentially digital only.

An example system includes an internal hard disk drive storing a program and/or data, a communication unit transmitting/receiving a program and/or data via a network, and a processor executing a program stored in the hard disk drive to perform game processing. The example system is not provided with an optical disk drive for reading out a program and/or data from an optical disk.

Not quite the same thing. Xbox One was going to have physical media that was one time use only, with lots of restrictions on handling. The physical aspect was there but it was obviously and intentionally made useless for dumb reasons.

Here the disk drive just doesn't exist. It's less of a deal if the option is never given. Of course I already know that's a showstopper for you anyways.
The patent doesn't rule out an alternative means of input (cards or cartridges) but that's really unlikely these days.

Let's remember this is just a preliminary patent, which may never get implemented.

I think its a decent idea and one of the big three has to take the first jump into digital only. Retail is a dying medium and digital will dramatically reduce the cost of publishing and localizing games. Of course I'm all for this as I'm bias towards Atlus and Marvelous.

Well hey Nintendo just have to stop being such cheapasses on storage when designing their machine. Always a problem for them somehow.

But to be fair, they are the ONLY ones that let you transfer your stuff forward and run natively, whether DS -> 3DS, or Wii -> Wii U.
