It's that time of year again when we give props to the best of the best of RU. You have until January 3, 2015 to put in your nominations for each of the categories. Keep in mind that these awards are for 2014 only.
Credit to Seahawk for writing the award descriptions.

Best Mod - This is the moderator who you think was the most helpful, who you could count on to help you solve your problems the most.

Trophy Thief - This is the player who consistently steals trophies from you and everyone else, who you expect to find the PM from saying "Your score was beaten by XXX".

Trophy Defender - Opposite of a trophy thief, this is a player who's score you keep on beating, only to have him/her come back and post a higher score constantly.

Best Forum Participant - This is the user who you think made the forums the most entertaining and lively.

Best Newcomer - The new member (their first post must be in 2014) who you think made the biggest positive impact to the RU forums or the arcade.

Retro Uprising All Star - To the member whose contributions in the arcade, forums, and chat room have made RU a better place. This person is the Sean Connery of RU, they set the gold standard in skills, wit, sportsmanship, and intellect.

Funniest User - This is the user who always seems to make you laugh.

Most Impressive Mastery - This is the player who beat that game that you thought couldn't be beat, but then someone did it anyways, sending your jaw dropping to the floor.

Most Impressive Score - This is the high score that you think is the most impressive overall for the year, a score that in your opinion will stand for a very long time.

No. NO. NO. I know you're joking, but still, no.

@Wolf & Crispy: Thanks for the nominations! I'm surprised I even got any this year, I just came back three months ago. As always, I'm honored.

Since I haven't hardly been here this year, I will abstain from nominations and voting.

This is probably the funniest thing I posted about all year. Worth it.

I don't know who to nominate really but Wolfman deserves to win and ZiD should get something for being a loyal RU bro for seven years. Maybe an honorable mention badge? ;)

Best Mod - Seahawk. I wrote the descriptions for the awards while I was a mod and they're still being used.

Trophy Thief - Seahawk. If I played games still I'd take scores. Rating myself 10/10 at this.

Trophy Defender - Seahawk. Most of my scores are over 1000 days old, some getting close to 2000.

Best Forum Participant - Seahawk. Should (http://www.retrouprising.com/other/forum-games/pictures-how-you-think-people-see-you/t2482/p5/#post283372) be (http://www.retrouprising.com/other/forum-games/pictures-how-you-think-people-see-you/t2482/p5/#post283394) obvious (http://www.retrouprising.com/other/chat/ru-s-political-spectrum/t16078/p3/#post283146).

Best Newcomer - Seahawk. I'm still using the same computer that I used the first time I logged in. This counts.

Retro Uprising All Star - Seahawk. 20% more all star.

Funniest User - Seahawk. See: this post and Best Forum Participant.

Most Impressive Mastery - Seahawk. I beat Third Strike that was pretty hard.

Most Impressive Score - Seahawk. I streaked 10 wins on Third Strike at the arcade a few months ago.

I don't think I've been here long enough to make some meaningful nominations, but...

Trophy Thief - BBH

Trophy Defender - Dunno. BBH?

:sheep: :sheep: :sheep:

Definitely have to nominate TodayIsForgotten for Trophy Defender too. After all you gotta be ready to defend when you have 486275687269 first places.

Most Impressive Score - BBH's Gangbusters-985,200

Ummm... really? That score didn't even finish the game, I've since submitted a 2.2 million score that did. But honestly I wouldn't even consider that in the top 3 scores I've submitted in my short time here, but hey whatever floats your boat...

Barra

BBH - you should nominate some of your best ones.

That goes for everyone, too. If you have done a score or a clear that you are proud of, nominate it. It could have slipped through without many people noticing.

Post your 2014 personal best.
Mine.
Fairly impressive: Double Dragon: Neo Geo - Arcade/Coin-Op (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=7885) - Jan 1, 2014

Much less so:
Street Fighter EX - Arcade/Coin-Op (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=11856) - clear & first
Street Fighter EX 2 - Arcade/Coin-Op (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=11858) - clear & first
Even less impressive:
Final Blow - Arcade/Coin-Op (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=5362)

I didn't play many games this year. Hope to change that next year.

Also, 2014 gaming champ is the winner of this - Leaderboard (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&module=league&a=2014)
Maxh is in lead. TiF is right behind him.

Best Mod: JosephJo
Best Noob: Exed Exes, He got to the top 3 in one year.

Most of what I would nominate has already been done so I just have a couple I'd like to add.

Best clear: BBH's 1942 and Cosmo Gang the Video.
Best score: BBH's 1942. I know he'd say this isn't a good score and he can beat it but to me this is an ass kicking score that I could never hope to achieve. Look at this way, if this score wins this year, you can up it again next year and win back to back.

Best Score: Barra's Stocker.

Best score: BBH - Trog. Highest score known on this game, probably won't be beaten for a long time

Seeing how my best score on 1942 is over 800k higher than what I submitted here.... yes, you're completely right in your assumption, lol.

I was definitely happy about that Cosmo Gang clear though, it was my first time ever clearing it. That game was used in one of the qualifying rounds of a Knockout tourney at MARP and nobody finished it.

Ill add a nomination while I think of it, others to come soon:

Yes, I think this was my best score thus far. Had insane luck with the pineapples that's unfortunately not easy to reproduce, which is one of the most annoying things about the game. All I wanted was a clear on it for Video Armageddon but that was above and beyond what I expected to do, which is great because I never want to play it again, hahaha.

I was going to say something about my maxed-out LSA Squad 9,999,990 but seeing how I've done that at MARP and on actual arcade hardware, it's not exactly a RU exclusive. So yeah, definitely Trog.

Best Score: My Donkey Kong 3 Coin Op 6,635,300 score. If this site lasts a thousand years, this score will still be in the top 10.

Yep, your DK3 scores will certainly stand the test of time.

I dont know how you did LSA. I don't mean how you did a counter-stop but how you could continue to play it for that long. Some games just don't do it for me and this one of them. Still a nice job.

Cosmo gang is such a fun game and i always manage to mess up my games. I go strong all the way to the last few wave with 2-4 lives and i just pull a typical me.

1942 is a very annoying game and of course like always i play well until the final 10 stages. But ive never really put time into 1942 coin-op. Not sure i want to. I scream a lot.

The thing about LSA Squad is that you're NOT meant to be hammering away on the fire button the entire time. If you get a 100% shot ratio on a level, your shots get fully powered-up, the next vehicle is automatically a helicopter, and you get a 100k bonus. Once you're at full power it's even easier to get 100% shot ratio again. The tricky part is getting that 100% the first time, but running over soldiers in a tank or a boat counts as a kill without firing anything. So you can just keep going and going like this... except for one stage where there's no vehicles, which makes it harder. And of course, dying on the 6th/7th/8th stages of a loop makes it really hard to beat the "bosses" with only grenades, and can result in losing lives over and over. It's basically a really fun game until this happens, and then it becomes aggravating. But with extras every 150k I can kinda build up lives so that there's a nice stockpile when this happens. Anyway it "only" takes a little over an hour once you have the hang of it...

Can I slip in a couple before the bar closes?

Everyone has already nominated who I'd have chosen in all the categories already, with the exception of:

Funniest user: dead heat between Teddy Loc and CapnJivePants - Teddy's a class act all round and the Captain's had me spitting tea / beer / gin / tears over my laptop all year

Most impressive score: Maxh Pepper 2 960930. It may not be a world record, but it's a title so many of the RU gang have played over the last year, and so many of us have sworn at, cursed, hated, loved, etc. that I think most of us could say it's a tremendous score. Also one of the most enjoyable for me to watch as a moderator.
