Ha. I remember when one of RU's most popular games was Alex Kidd in Miracle World, thanks to a link from the game's Wikipedia page.

Also, I will never get back the two minutes I spent playing ALF.

We did have a significant spike in traffic beginning the 4th. Sadly it crashed the server and site was down nearly all day. Fixed now but :(

Error was actually caused by the "most users online" being too high. Tracking that # uses lots of server memory. I had to reduce the time that it calls a user "active" so it would dump old users quicker so the most users online number would shrink. It says Dec 4th was highest (before the change) but actually today and yesterday (6&7th) were higher and the 5th was the highest.

Also had a one day bump last month from reddit that caused the same error.

Need to upgrade the server or improve site code before "active users online" can get over 600. If traffic increases too much before then I will just disable tracking it. A more important and accurate number is probably "active members" which is # of users that logged in during the past 30 days. Currently 584.


Over 50% of the people that just clicked that video came here. I wouldn't have guessed 50% would have even made it to the 3 minute mark much less follow the link after just a 5 second blurb. Effective video format.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Sega Master System (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=125) is no longer linked from Wikipedia but it is still top 9 most played game on site. Was #1 for the first few years.

#1 is now Super Mario World - Super Nintendo (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=4022)

Alex also had a couple years head start before SNES games were added to site. Alex is quickly falling behind. The top 4 spots are all Mario. Top 8 are all Nintendo.

Cool to see! Thanks for sharing! Always loved statistics. I'm amazed as well that 50% came here. Being that, yeah, the average youtube video gets viewed for 3 minutes, 20 seconds or something like that.

I suppose it's true what they say about there being no accounting for taste, I would have thought that such a mention would have brought lots of new members here.
I know I'm out of the loop and frozen in time in my own way but still.

Similarly, I mentioned RU to the http://cinemassacre.com/ (http://cinemassacre.com/)people ages back expecting they'd be all over it, since retro games make up much of their subject matter with the Angry Video Game Nerd character and all.
My guess is they took RU to be one of those 'flash' sites promising retro games for free, or assumed I was trying to sell them something perhaps?
We'll never know I suppose, but it's a shame since there couldn't be more of a natural pairing than between AVGN and RU in my opinion.
