Getting back into it

During my week long internet hiatus I started playing Minecraft again.

Unlike every other time I'd played the game since ending my RU server, I dedicated myself to sticking with a single world no matter what.

Large biomes are set. I spawned in a forest that sprawls endlessly in every direction. After wandering around a bit I found a flat enough area to build a tiny bunker house.

I like cramped and small spaces in Minecraft. It really gives a claustrophobic feeling, as if the dwelling you're in was quickly made just for survival.

I enjoy the survival aspect of MC more than anything, I think. Just trying not to die. The same feeling as with playing a rougelike. It's not hardcore mode, but if I die I will never find my way to this building again. I wandered a long way from the spawn point. I haven't set a bed yet. I don't think I will, just to keep the tension high.

I had not eaten any food until a few minutes before these shots were taken, when I harvested my first wheat to make bread. It only pushed me up to 4.5 food. Since I had full health I decided to go into a cave despite having no regen. I saw shadows that looked like villagers, and wondered why they were down there. Thinking I'd found some cool underground village I ran to them, only to find that they were witches. I had no idea they spawned underground now. With their potions they took me to .5 health. A sheep was quickly sacrificed to bring me back to full health. RIP sheepy :sheep:.

I'm feeling the Minecraft love again. You truly get out of it, only what you put into it.

Good to hear you're back on the horse. If you want to try out Tensers server you can run in one of several untamed directions and fend for yourself. It's pretty challenging.

Thanks DB. I'll take a crack at it sometime when I feel like installing all the mods necessary, but for now I'm content with vanilla.

Remember Skygrid (http://www.retrouprising.com/other/minecraft/seahawk-plays-skygrid/t13611/)? I really enjoyed that map until I stopped playing Minecraft.

I found an updated version (http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/skygrid-for-17/) of it for 1.7, which is close enough for my purposes. I started a new map of it.

This version does not have bonus chests scattered about. So harvesting materials is much harder since you cannot find them in bulk.

This space is literally all I have right now. First priority was to make a bed to set the spawn point. I'll sleep in it and then die to reset the life meter. Then the exploration begins.

You don't need to install anything but the FtB Launcher. Everything else is handled by the launcher itself.

That Skygrid is way too hard for me, I rage/ quit - desk flip and that's it.

I love the new world generation, and those added options are great, aren't they?
I monkeyed around with it a bit and came up with some very interesting maps.
