Friday I will be purchasing a private Minecraft server from a professional server hosting site.

The server will be running Magic Farm 2 for the foreseeable future. If you would like to join and I trust you, send me a PM and I will whitelist you.

More on Magic Farm 2:
The Magic Farm 2 modpack is a third-party modpack assembled by JadedCat for Minecraft 1.6.4. This modpack is very different from most of the official FTB packs, with a focus on survival, exploration and a strong sense of progression through the entire tech-tree. Magic Farm 2 is an overhaul pack, making extensive use of Tinkers' Construct tools and Iguana Tweaks for all your basic tools, and HungerOverhaul making general survival much harder. Boosted mob difficulty from Infernal Mobs and Special Mobs as well as a more violent environment with Deadly World ensure surviving is an ongoing challenge.

The server I am purchasing will comfortably support 1-5 players for a heavily modded world as is. I don't expect to ever see much more than 5 players on at a time.

Server is up and running smoothly. I have sent replies to those that have PM'd me.

A few things before you get started:
You begin with some books. These are very useful reading. If you are unfamiliar with the basics of the Tinker's Construct mod the 2 TC books are required reading for survival if you plan to go it alone.

Katz and I are setting up shop east of spawn in a cherry blossom biome. You are welcome to join us or go your own separate way. (about 250/-150)

Mystcraft Linking Books are off limits until I figure out how much stress extra worlds will place on the server.

The world is meant to be very difficult to survive in. Flight over fight is always the best option.

You should try to let the world load up for a couple of minutes the first time you log in. Biomes O' Plenty can add some stress to player PCs initially.

I've been mostly playing offline with the unstable circumstances if the RU worlds, and to practice for the group hardcore I'm doing for youtube.

I'm game to play on this though. I trust a Tenser world to have fun mods and be stable. Might not jump on right away though.

If you've never tried this modpack before, I have to warn you it's like a whole new game, and your prior experience cannot help you!

Near spawn is a Testificate village where I broke out the books .. and realized I have major studying to do!

There was even one book I couldn't figure out how to turn the pages on .. clearly this is a very complex modpack!
Punched down a tree {thankfully that still worked the same}, made a crafting table, but when I went to make my customary wooden pickaxe I was shocked to see it didn't work!

It shocked me so badly that now every sentence I type ends in an exclamation mark!

The bad news for me is I can only run this pack for a very short time before my MC crashes :(, so I'm going to try the alternative launcher {for lesser PC's such as mine} next time and see if it improves!

Today I harvested and re - planted a lot of the crops in the Testificate village gardens.
I like how the hoed ground doesn't revert to plain dirt, this is extremely nice as all tools seem to require stencils, templates, special tables, chests and other stuff I can't remember right now.
Basically the process of crafting seems similar to the kinds of things you'd have to do in real life to produce tools, and I have yet to make a single tool.

I took some screenshots but haven't figured out where this modpack stores them yet.
I saw some kind of monster that looked like a stone golem??? but I left it alone since I am still naked and unarmed.
There were plants pulsating with light, things that could have been beehives, and a short distance from the village is a tree bigger than the ones found in the Twilight Forest.

It got dark so I found my way back and by chance had a carrot in my hand as I entered one of the small huts .. so now there are 3 little pigs living in one of the huts they followed me into.

By the way, your hunger bar constantly runs down so having food in your hotbar is probably a good idea.

The loot he found right at the start is simply amazing when I think of the effort required to make those tools and weapons.

I could show you how to work tinker construct

Tinker's Construct (the tool mod) is the only required mod to play. Besides that you can freely play the server as if it were vanilla. Tinker's Construct is an easy, inexpensive mod to delve into and is quick to reward the player for doing so.

My advice is to pick one mod and focus on it. This helps you from being overwhelmed. Both Wolf and I do the same thing for the most part.

A few suggestions after TC:

Mariculture: Very easy to start but very time consuming and slow to pay out.
Thaumcraft: Heavy grind at the beginning but quick to pay out and has a great in game tutorial.

All I was saying was that regular MC crafting techniques don't apply, and in order to make basic tools a bit of effort is required.
I'm completely new to Tinker's Construct and am already getting the hang of it.

When you start you have a tan colored book in your inventory which shows how to make the various worktables you will need to get started.
I've already made most of these in my little hut and have patterns for basic tool parts - now I need to figure out how to put them together!

Overall the biggest problem is starvation, :starving: so gathering food should be top priority.

Ok now I'm making progress!
Turns out my trouble was centered around a missing table - there are about 5 that you'll need along with a pattern chest to get started.
Once you get this figured out you're on your way.

Got some flint and bone, made a couple of picks and an axe.
Made a shovel to get some clay and sand, which are needed to get to the next level of crafting.

Lit up the town, still have to get a couple of rooftops.
Planted more crops and a few oak trees around the town, chopped down excessive spruce trees.

You're lucky to have the villager crop fields. Normally you can't till dirt until you've made it to the copper stage.

This and the fact that even cooked meat doesn't give much health made the village crops a game - saver for me.
Had I been left to killing animals and eating them I probably wouldn't have lasted this long.
Jadedcat certainly made a challenging modpack!

Speaking of food, I planted a large farm with every seed I can find on the west side of the village.
Be kind and replant what you take please; some of those seeds are taking this side of forever to mature!
There is a double chest on the side nearest my hut for the seeds and I'm going to throw an iron hoe in there too.

By the way, thanks again to Wolf who helped bring me into the smelting stage of the tech tree; I tried it myself but it's one of those things better demonstrated than attempted by instructions alone.
The book that appears in your inventory 'Mighty Smelting'? = is helpful but not comprehensively descriptive.

Any idea how to fix JGs issue with certain biomes lagging him out? If I can't get mayor joe to my npc village it's gonna bum me out. I'd look it up myself but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

@Joe: There's not a need to replant crops in this modpack. If you right click a mature crop it will harvest the crop without destroying the plant.

The last few times I tried to take a screenshot while in 'Normal' render distance my MC crashed.
Most of the time I have to play 'Short' :mad-tongue: so the picture would have had even more fog than it does.
This is why I like Optifine.

@Joe: There's not a need to replant crops in this modpack. If you right click a mature crop it will harvest the crop without destroying the plant. Certain plants only, others still need to be replanted.

DB, I tried a solo expedition to the new blossom biome to see if the lag had to do with there being other players on, but no, the lag was every bit as bad despite the fact I was alone this time.

Right now I'm tunneling from under my hut toward the new area at about Y = 15 to see if the lag effect is still the same underground; I haven't got there yet but found a really neat cave system with lots of those odd spawners - primed TNT, arrows, fire arrows, etc. with most guarding a chest .. but the loot inside is junk!

What I really want to find is an abandoned mine so I can get the tracks from it.
Has anyone seen any of these mines yet, or are there none generated in this modpack?

Ok someone please help me out. I had some problem and had to reinstall Magic Farm2. Apparently when I deleted that I lost forge as well. I downloaded forge again and set it up to use in the normal MC launcher but the FTB launcher still tells me I don't have it installed when I try to join the server. How do I get it to cooperate?

Delete the entire FtB folder, uninstall all of it and try a fresh reinstall. Somehow or another you, your wife, or a program corrupted the file. If you need the IP again you can just ask me or any of the other players.

Today I made a Thaumium Bossed Silverwood Wand which is the top tier wand in Thaumcraft. It was actually even more work than I expected. I finally got a chance to put my infusion altar to work and had to upgrade my aspect furnace setup and wear a whole outfit to just barely squeak by without blowing the house up.

After that toil I just kind of derped around with bees. Bred my purebred Imperials from ignoble stock to pristine stock and I'm on the very cusp of getting the Industrious species through mutating the Diligant with the Unweary.

Amazing technology, things I wasn't even aware were possible.

About the harvesting of the plants, you are probably right; I play late at night mostly and so likely forget whether I'm right or left clicking.
As long as the crops get re - planted is all I care about.

While continuing my tunnel toward DB's blossom biome area I came across a large cave system so began exploring.
In this area there are lots of cobblestone mounds covering silverfish spawners, which killed me several times while trying to clear them - it took me a while to realize where all the silverfish were coming from!

I'm not sure how close I am to the blossoms biome now but I must be getting close, so soon I'll tunnel up to the surface to see how far I've gotten.

JG we think something in the cave system might be causing the lag, SJB experienced it too when he visited. It could be the damn silvefish now that you mention it. When digging right below the town I encountered tons of them and one infernal boss type. The ones I'm seeing aren't in cobble mounds though these are in normal smoothstone. I plan on slowly clearing the upper part of the caves in the hope that it helps.

Your cave might be useful though to avoid the lag. I just hope you're not wasting your time. Also I found that my village is very close to spawn, it's due west just across a small body of water. I can show you the best entrance if we meet up in game.

I'm starting to wonder if the theory of the lag being connected to the blossom trees themselves is right; the few that someone planted near my farm seem to cause me lag when I walk near them.

In order to confirm this theory we need at least one other person who also suffers lag to test it by walking among the blossom trees near my farm, or perhaps some new trees planted in an area which is NOT a natural blossom biome.

IN OTHER NEWS, as I was looking at the FTB Wiki I came across this warning which details a very specific condition that causes the game to crash, found half way down the page.

In order to try to isolate this problem, I am conducting troubleshooting experiments with the blossom trees.
Phase 1 has already been completed, consisting of removal of the trees both at my farm and near the redwood tree and also the ones nearest my hut at Wolf's place.

Results are the same at both locations; lag increased with proximity to the trees, then unbelievable lag the kind of which I've never seen while cutting the trees down, which is directly connected to the logs being broken {the animation looked like an old fashioned slide show} and the saplings and logs as they float freely above the ground.
ONCE the freely floating blocks are picked up the lag begins to slow down, and after the remaining leaves from the trees de - spawn the lag is gone.

I am now going to begin Phase 2, where I will build a structure entirely made of the blossom tree wood in order to determineif the lag extends to blocks which have been harvested and re - placed.
I am hoping this experiment will prove the re - placed logs will NOT cause any lag since I like the look of the red logs and wood.:\
Furthermore not to contaminate the results I have removed the few blocks I placed on my hut with regular oak wood, and will do the same with the ones in my underground lair.

NO server corruption, just a connection error at my end.
Everything is just fine.
In fact, it's even better now, since we have isolated the problem surrounding the cherry wood/ blossom trees:

If the trees are growing, they cause lag.
Even more so while they are being harvested.
However the wood is completely lag - free once harvested then re - placed.

I noticed the leaves don't always cooperate when cutting down the tree. More than a few times I had to climb up there and remove them even with no logs holding them up.

Guess I got an early start yesterday when I brought up the fappening and talked about celebrity genitals.


@JG and Wolf- I spent the better part of an hour today clearing lag trees from around my village. Please take a minute to run over there and walk around the whole town to see if you still get any lag at all. If you do tell me where so I can take a look. Don't bother going outside the town though it's still ringed by a forest of lag.

On a related note if anyone need any logs for any reason let me know I have a ton. All red.

Then I told him how one day while exploring I thought I heard a ghast in the overworld, and thought 'nah, couldn't be'.
Turns out I was wrong, they do spawn in the overworld somehow.

By the way there are now 2 villagers so please take care not to leave caves open or other hazards they may fall into.

Pretty bummed about my village being lagville. Is there any chance that the jack o lanterns I placed all around could be causing lag spikes? How about the silverfish spawner being so close to my house? I really don't wanna have to give up the hours I just put into that place.

I understand what you mean but must disagree, and this is why:

SJB and I experience lag near the cherry blossom trees with only 2 or 3 people on.

Katz said she lagged in Sacred Springs biome,{ but I don't know how many players at that time.}

Point is, SJB and I have no lag in the Sacred Springs biome, and Katz said she has no lag with the cherry blossoms.

The different situations creating lag makes me think it's an individual experience, dependent on certain circumstances combined with the varying performance of people's potatoes .

Disagree all you want. Server CPU usage goes up with the number of players. The server size I am paying for is designed to handle 15 players in vanilla MC. This number drops heavily with the number of mods on the server.

I think you need to double check your numbers. 7kRF/t sounds outlandish. That's 140kRF/s. As far as I know, biofuel generators run at 160RF/t and combustion engines run 200RF/t.

Are you using the correct conversion rates?
10MJ = 1RF
2.5EU = 1RF

You're telling us that you have ~44 BioFuel Generators in town.

It's just a single sapling and a piece of bonemeal. Crashed the server when I did it. It was a complete mistake as it looks just like a normal rubber sapling which is what I wanted.

I am OPing people if they are working on it. This gives you creative abilities including flight. You give yourself a Bound Ax, shift right click it to activate it. The right click an area and it removes a 4x10x10 chunk.


I don't want anyone on during the clean up that's not helping as it just creates lag and makes it more difficult for those that are.

If anyone helps out a lot I'll reward them with three Wither Skulls.

Pfft no. I really wish it was on my end because at least then I'd know what's going on. If it helps I was online and things were fine for a bit before I got lag. I ran around and checked on my derps. I picked some flowers. I explored the caves under my house. It started lagging when I was in the caves and just mining some ores. No enemies around and there weren't even any spawnable areas close by. The only thing I can think of that might've caused something is a stacked spawner I destroyed that was shooting rapid fire arrows but the lag started like 10 minutes after that when everything was calm again.

Maybe it was something Katz was doing with her tree? Trees seem to be problematic in this mod pack.

I've unlocked the final researches for Thaumcraft; Ichorium gear.

I can make armor that's as strong as diamond, does not have durability, grants unlimited flight, immunity to fall damage, immunity to arrows, turns fire damage into healing, casts continuous light, continuous speed buff, continuous haste buff, turns all dirt that I step on into grass, permanent underwater breathing, clear underwater vision, allows me to see invisible creatures, negates hunger, AND can still be enchanted!

Now I just have to craft the damn things. :(

Decided against making the huge tower in the middle, but made a fair sized center support structure to give the bridge some balance, and this may also serve as a hub later with its location being good to travel North toward the cobble temple/ taint/ Wolf's area, or South to the shrublands past the pyramid.
I'm thinking simple pathways would do nicely for a start.

The redwood at spawn causes lag as well; but I think it has more to do with the accompanying 'cloud' blocks that spawn near these trees which are causing the lag.
That's my theory at this moment anyways.

The range of a hungry node is only a 24 block radius. It only "eats" when the chunk is loaded. It's a long term goal of mine to capture one of them and use it for my own schemes.

Ten also planted a whole bunch of magic plants to thwart the taint, and it seems to be working perfectly.
Where there were tentacles there is now peace, where there was fibrous taint there is now no sign it was there at all.

You can pick those Ethereal Blooms up with shears and replant them where you need. Consider them a gift. I've also been dabbling in tree breeding. I've been able to breed Larch and Beech trees. Dudebro has 2 of each sapling, one set for him and one set for you, Joe.

My villagers are really stupid. Most hang out in a small section right near the well. Of course they pick the worst side, the most unfinished.

1. A shot of them all grouping in the badlands, 6 or so all sitting on one little fenced in roof. Turns out they couldn't get out so I had to break the fence. Once I did they spilled off the roof like the Three Stooges all trying to go through a door at the same time. Some even hurt themselves. Thankfully Elvis didn't get involved.

I've been doing small things here and there like making pathways, bridges and small structures, but am chomping at the bit to make more substantial builds .. so right now I'm holding off until there's more certainty about who's going to be where so I can figure out where to build them/ it/ whatever.

I'm slowly creeping toward Ten/ Katz' area with a broken walkway, and have some sort of bridges planned to get over the river.

Looking at that snowy spruce forest as a possible location for a second path from Ten/ Katz' toward the moss cobble temple near Wolf.
This would pass directly through that lovely extreme hills area which I've explored a bit of so far.

1. Npc village I found. It's lame but it seems to be themed as a fishing village. It's half in the water and more than one npc offers fish for emerald trades.

2. Eerie biome I stumbled upon.

1. It's hard to see but this was a big patch of sorta glowy sea plants. It was out in the deep and it was huge.

2. A sacred springs tree half tainted. Right around the bend was a hunger node that pulled me off my boat, slowly drained me and left my body at the bottom of a lake. I didn't even bother trying to recover it.

3. I've been trading a lot with my NPCs and killing ones with horrible deals(:sweat:) so new ones can be born. This green one popped up and surprised me, I read they don't spawn at all so I guess the mod added them. So far they have sucky deals and had to be put down like dogs.

No, I set the one at Twin Caves up myself, exactly as I have before in other locations.
Also I have used this smeltery before with no problems.

It's weird beyond words; you put ore in but it won't melt anymore.
Could it have something to do with your smeltery, the one you posted pics of that's glitched out?

The only other thing I can think which may be causing it is the combination of metals already in there, but that just doesn't make sense.

The shallow parts you can clear by placing dirt blocks in them and then shoveling it up. Any deep puddles will clear over time, usually by spawning a tainted slime mob.

So Tenser- Fomar pointed out that no enemies spawn in the overworld when only one person is online, is that intentional? If so it's pretty weak. I just ran through a forest at night and not a single threat popped up.

Can you help me set up a tree farm? I just need help with the bees for it.

I was just on a while ago and lo and behold, a monster appeared!
Since I was the only one on at the time I think this should prove that the game is working just fine {except for that smeltery at Twin Caves, apparently}.

Blaze has made a lovely road leading to his place to the South of the Egyptian Pyramid near Cave Town, and past that is a huge Volcano biome which makes up the southern coast of the continent, which he was kind enough to show me a few nights back.

DB has done quite a bit of work in Cave Town and it's looking great.

I am working on several projects here and there, so if you see some chests full of materials sitting around they are likely my supplies.

If anyone has any emeralds they don't want I could really use them. I've been making a bunch off trades but as I kill some and get new trades I spend them again to level them up. Now I'm stuck and kinda low. I'm considering hollowing out an extreme hills hill.

@Joe: Fixed your smeltery. You had too many metals in it for it to not be automated. I automated it. Hit the lever to toggle automatic ingot casting on and off.

@DB: I'll need to know where you want to breed trees. Remember, the hive on has a 12 block radius.

You know when you enter my town from the front? To the left beyond that side of the wall is where I wanna grow trees, whatever direction that is(maybe SE?). It's a big open field that's mostly flat.

well i had monsters spawning in an underground area near my home for a long time now and i thought it was a cave i had discovered yet, and when i finally dug into the area i found a temple underground.

I was getting lonely on the server today. No friends ever swing by and say "hi." So I picked up every last torch, all 8 stacks of them from my area (excluding the ones inside Katzy's house of course). Now not only do I have plenty of visitors but my place looks so much better at night.

Monster withdrawal is a sad and frightening condition.
Pretty soon Ten will be flying around in Mode 1 placing spawners all over the map.

I've been on when my computer will let me, sometimes my MC crashes and so I just give up and go do something else; just in case I disappear suddenly and don't come back on I thought I would mention this.

Ten I'm all for portals and understand the convenience of instantaneous travel between locations, but personally I like the idea of roads and pathways leading to the different locations.
I don't know why, maybe it gives me some sense of security or just a feeling of knowing where I am at all times??
At any rate I've taken to using the waypoints and they certainly are nice to have as well.

The last one almost wiped me out too: a Poison Skeleton was waiting inside Midway for me to return - but luckily I got him and took his Poison 1, Poison 2 bow as a trophy!

Still while we're on the subject I have noticed that the number of hostile mobs spawned does seem to be directly correlated to the number of players.
However this does not mean that while you are moving through an area there are NO monsters spawning; they may be massing somewhere unseen for a coordinated attack!!

MC never gets old, even when it gets old.
I second that; the fact I keep coming back to it after all these years tells me that Minecraft is something truly phenomenal.

One thing I love is how it always provides different things to explore - right out of the box, no special skills or mods required.
I don't even have to play the game in the sense of gathering materials and using them to build things and often have lots of fun just generating new worlds, then exploring to see what each one has to offer - and provided they use different world seeds that means the possibilities could be limitless!

Adding mods to the game takes it to a whole new level :dance: - but even regular 'vanilla' MC is great too.

Another thing is how much potential it has, and the different types of things that can be done in/ with the game make it more than just a 'sandbox' game and more like a universal tool in some ways.
In turn, these special applications can be used for the making of Adventure maps like those of the great Hypixel (http://www.retrouprising.com/Hypixel) and the special challenge maps and unusual builds provided by Disco (http://www.retrouprising.com/Disco).

But enough fanboy, let's get on with it:


My computer had a Java issue of some kind which I tried to fix with an update which caused the FTB launcher to stop working.
I had to reinstall everything so any screenshots I took are gone :face: but at least I'm still able to play.

I had one of the best times playing minecraft with the Magic Farm 2 pack, and it was definitely worth learning the intricacies of its many mods. {but I still have lots to learn as it is}

The stuff you guys built was simply amazing, and I loved exploring the different areas {once I figured I had tough enough armor and weapons} and near the end it seemed as though we had conquered a huge portion of Minecraftia.

Thanks again Tenser for hosting us so long, it was truly a fun and educational round of MC and possibly my favorite to date.

So I assume there's no plan to make a new Tenser server since the activity dropped off fast? If so I think we(those of us who wanna play semi regularly) should make an organized effort to find a server that might be stable(like a constant population). Unfortunately I'm still banned on the MC forum though so I won't be much help in actually communicating with potential server people and I'd have to ask one of you to get me whitelisted :( But I'll help any other way I can, minus cash donations.

Well I can check what's available without whitelists but it's usually kinda free for all and we'd have to set up waaaaaaay away from spawn. I also put in an appeal for my ban but I'm not holding my breath about it.

Well they approved my appeal and unbanned me. Gotta say I'm surprised given how heavy handed they were in the first place. I guess my long winded point by point explanation of why I need forum access melted their hearts. I'll start looking for promising servers later.
