I've been playing a crap ton of Hearthstone lately. It's a F2P online card battle game by Blizzard.

My nick is Kugyince and I'm rocking a pretty solid growth deck. Add me as a friend and lets do some battles! >:D

Kind of. Just a lot more shallow.

Isn't nearly ever TCG a Magic rip off?

Unlike Magic, it doesn't require a $300+ investment to play well, doesn't require an encyclopedic knowledge of "stacks" and chains, and hasn't gone through 50 versions of errata.

Pretty boring game, you don't earn currency fast enough and it's not particularly strategic when compared to Magic or MMDOC or even Solforge.

My two rank decks thus far:

Bloody Rage
Inner Rage x1
Execute x2
Whirlwind x2
Battle Rage x2
Cleave x2
Commanding Shout x2
Slam x2
Amani Berserker x2
Armorsmith x1
Cruel Taskmaster x2
Flesheating Ghoul x2
Frothing Berserker x2
Tauren Warrior x2
Warsong Commander x2
Cult Master x2
Gurubashi Berserker x2

Deck feeds off of taking damage and death.

Whirlwind, Cruel Taskmaster, Inner Rage, and Slam are used to help activate rage.

Battle Rage, Cult Master, Slam, and Commanding Shout serve as card draw.

Execute, Cleave, Commanding Shout, and Slam can be used as hard removal.

I would like to swap the Armorsmith for Grammash Hellscream when I get him. I'd also like to switch the two Tauren Warriors for two Rampage and one of the Commanding Shouts for a second Inner Rage.

Big Taunt Ramp
Innervate x2
Naturalize x1
Mark of the Wild x2
Wild Growth x2
Wrath x2
Acidic Swamp Ooze x1
Amani Berserker x1
Mark of Nature x2
Big Game Hunter x1
Swipe x2
Chillwind Yeti x2
Keeper of the Grove x1
Druid of the Claw x2
Starfire x2
Boulderfist Ogre x2
Ancient of War x1
Ironbark Protector x2
Alexstraza x1
Deathwing x1

Object is to ramp up the mana curve quickly and be able to play one big creature after another.

Innervate and Wild Growth do the ramping.

Wrath and Starfire are your only minor sources of card draw. You honestly shouldn't need much as you're playing passive control.

Naturalize, Wrath, Big Game Hunter, Swipe, Starfire, and Deathwing serve as hard removal.

Mark of the Wild and Mark of Nature are in there to turn your early drops into large taunts. (Example: You coin/Amani turn one and turn 2 add the Mark of the Wild. That's a 4/5 with taunt and +3 enrage on turn 2. Normally a plain 4/5 like Yeti can't come out until turn 4 let alone with all the extra buffs.)

Thing I would like to change:
I'd like to trade the Naturalize for The Black Knight as it's simply better removal in every way. I'd like to swap out the two Boulderfist Ogres for two Ancients of Lore to add in the option for more card draw of health. I'd also like to swap out the Alexstraza and Deathwing for Ysera and Ragnoras.

It's funny I came here to post about getting help with this game. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the warrior deck, because I don't play warrior much, but the druid one is similar to what I use minus the legendaries. I could fill the two spots with an ancient of lore and something else good and probably do alright in ranked?

I mainly came here to ask about arena though. I can't get more than 3 wins and I usually barely manage to get 1 or 2. I try different classes and different builds but I always seem to get stopped early. Any advice is appreciated. I could go look at guides but they all seem to go for 1 or 2 very specific builds and that bores me. I'm looking for general tips.

The other night I actually had some good matches. One match the guy beat me down to 1 hit point and I managed to come back largely because of
http://www.retrouprising.com/img/2014_07/4216.png
and he quit rather than let me blast him, gotta love rage quits. The other good one I don't even remember because I was on the phone and I only really noticed what was going on when the other guy was almost dead and I won soon after. I did better than normal because I wasn't paying attention :(

Kugyince
07-18-2014, 11:51 PM
For constructed it's VERY important to pay attention to your hand. What cards are working for you and what ones aren't? Do you need more card draw or hard removal? How's your deck running in the earl (1-3) mid (4-6) and late (7+) turns of the game?

Once you get past rank 15 it becomes very important to also pay attention to the meta game. This means paying attention to what decks out there you're weak against and what decks are currently popular and tweaking your to accommodate that.

An example from my Ramp deck: The Naturalize and Big Game Hunter are in there specifically because Handlock Giant decks are both popular and I have a difficult time with them. The Acidic Swamp Ooze is there for Miracle Rogue and Control Warrior decks. Token Shaman use to be popular so I use to run a Starfall for a little more AoE. Now that it isn't, I don't.

Arena favors solid creatures over spells and combos. You have to also pay attention to your mana curve. I've mostly learned what cards are good for what by watching the top-tier players' youtube videos. There's also this though I've never used it: Arena Card Rankings/Spreadsheets - Icy Veins (http://www.icy-veins.com/hearthstone/arena-card-rankings-spreadsheets)

---------- Post added at 12:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:47 AM ----------

Dudebro

I think one of my main problems is I try to make a strong presence on the board early and I end up with an empty hand. I've been trying to save up the first few rounds to unload a few cards at once but the results have been mixed.

I usually try to balance my deck with a good amount of low cost cards, 1-4, and a few good strong cards. I've stopped relying so much on taunt except for priest and paladin because I like how it works with them.

I'll probably just skip ranked unless I start doing better in constructed. It's already aggravating enough without the added shame of not ranking up.

I've been saving up for Ysera too. Not for anything specific just because it's a cool card.

Kugyince
07-19-2014, 06:59 PM
Good rule of thumb is that you should only be playing as many cards as you draw that turn.

Now that I have Ysera not only does it upgrade my Big Taunt Ramp deck but my Basic Control deck is 90% fleshed out.

Basic Control
Arcane Missles x2
Mana Wyrm x2
Frostbolt x2
Amani Berserker x2
Bloodmage Thalnos x1
Arcane Intellect x1
Acolyte of Pain x1
Big Game Hunter x1
Harvest Golem x2
Fireball x2
Polymorph x2
Chillwind Yeti x2
Water Elemental x2
Azure Drake x1
Gadgetzan Auctioneer x2
Venture Co. Mercenary x1
Sunwalker x2
Flamestrike x1
Ysera x1

LOTS of card draw in the deck with Bloodmage Thalnos, Arcane Intellect, Acolyte of Pain, Azure Drake, and Gadgetzan Auctioneer.

Deck runs on controller the board using very solid creatures.

The only thing I want to replace is the Venture Co. for a Ragnoras.

Its a fun game. Just find what works and change what doesn't. Basic decks can take you a long way if you play well.

1. Always check for lethal.
2. Always trade up if you can.
3. Never trade down if you have more health.
4. Maintain board control.

@DN: You should be using your coins to play in the arena instead of buying packs. The arena will allow you to play on even ground with everyone else, will let you try out cards that you don't own, will teach you what cards are good and bad and what a mana curve should look like. You also still earn packs of cards from arena runs so you can still build up your library. So do your daily quests and go play in the arena every time you earn 150 coins.

Kugyince
09-29-2014, 06:54 PM
Hunter's got nerfed really hard in the last patch with Starving Buzzard.

The Miracle Rogue and Handlock Warlock decks got nerfed slightly with Leeroy Jenkins going from 4 mana to 5 mana. They're both still competitive in different variations though.

With the nerf and Naxx update two new decks are becoming popular, Deathrattle Priest and Secrets Mage.

The four decks I've been fairing well with are a Control Mage, Ramp Druid, Zoolock, and Deathlock.

@DB: There's nothing wrong with using someone else's deck build. It teaches you how to build competitive deck and then you can tweak it to your preference and the current meta game making it your own. My Control, Ramp, and Zoo are all like that, while my Deathlock is all my own though certainly other people have thought of variations of it as well.

Dudebro
09-29-2014, 06:58 PM

You also need to take the junk out of your deck and streamline it.

Dudebro
10-06-2014, 10:42 AM
Just play Priest it's better.

Kugyince
10-06-2014, 12:07 PM
Death priest has a decent win ratio versus zoolock, miracle rogue, and secrets mage. You'll be outclassed by handlock, control shaman, and control warrior though. Obviously there's no "best" deck and you'll face both favorable and unfavorable match-ups. It's more about the slight adjustments made to the deck to compensate for decks that it's weak against and that are currently popular.

But you agree he shouldn't craft lower level stuff? Crafting isn't very fruitful so it's easy to waste your dust.

I disagree but I will admit it's just personal preference on what to craft.

I crafted commons and rares all the time until I had full sets of each. The way I saw it is that I'd rather play a very solid all around deck than an okay-ish deck with a legendary card in it. Again, personal preference.

Dudebro
10-06-2014, 05:58 PM
I don't mean legendaries I mean epics and rare, as opposed to common.

Kugyince
10-06-2014, 05:59 PM
I do recommend that most players start with a zoolock deck. It is a very cheap aggro/control deck that even legendary players play.

Here is the version I run:
Soulfire x2
Power Overwhelming x2
Flame Imp x2
Leper Gnome x2
Undertaker x2
Haunted Creeper x2
Ironbeak Owl x1
Knife Juggler x2
Nerubian Egg x2
Harvest Golem x2
Shattered Sun Cleric x2
Void Terror x2
Hellfire x1
Dark Iron Dwarf x2
Defender of Argus x2
Doomguard x2

You'll notice their are no epics or legendaries in the deck. The variant I run is designed for early board control and strives to win by turn 7.

Dudebro
10-06-2014, 07:07 PM

Kugyince

I only use it because the damn Sludge Belchers are so prevalent. Most decks outside of Handlock don't run it. There are almost always better options.

Dudebro
10-06-2014, 11:57 PM
It's the cheapest all class silence card, right? For the price of one spellbreaker you can have two owls. That being said I usually use one of each. I also like to use a brewmaster or two so having a cheaper silence comes in handy.

Hunter's Mark x1
Flare x2
Tracking x1
Leper Gnome x2
Undertaker x2
Webspinner x2
Explosive Trap x1
Freezing Trap x1
Snake Trap x1
Haunted Creeper x2
Ironbeak Owl x1
Loot Hoarder x2
Mad Scientist x2
Eaglehorn Bow x2
Animal Companion x2
Kill Command x2
Houndmaster x1

Kugyince

Cycles through the deck, highly effective against Hunter/Mage/Pally.

Also tonight:

Rank 4 baby!

Dudebro
10-15-2014, 06:23 PM
I get that it's a great draw card for the cost but the other two stats are situational. If your opponent isn't using stealth or secrets it's kind of a wasted slot. Or at least a slot that could have a draw card that's an actual minion or something. That being said it would come in very handy for people using secrets, those can be a real pain in the ass.

Kong
10-15-2014, 06:34 PM
I think the benefit is it's like paying with a 28 card deck instead of a 30 making it more likely to draw the more important cards.

Kugyince
10-15-2014, 06:42 PM
Exactly, Kong. It thins out and cycles your deck. It also works as a utility card. The one mana cost allows you to use it at any time. The two mana for a card draw 1/1 could be better used to activate the Hunter's shot ability. It's an effective card draw any time you have one spare mana left your turn.

Dudebro
10-15-2014, 06:46 PM
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's a bad choice I'm just saying it might not be the best choice, especially for someone starting out. Then again I tend to lose a lot so what do I know.

Abusive Sergeant x2
Flame Imp x2
Undertaker x2
Voidwalker x2
Zombie Chow x2
Dire Wolf Alpha x2

I mean no offense I swear but that deck seems like the same damn thing I see all the time when I play. Either blizzard needs to add more viable cards or people need to be more flexible with their decks, I'm not sure which.

Kugyince
10-15-2014, 07:50 PM
There's about 6 or 7 popular deck builds right now. It changes as the game changes.

Currently I'm encountering a lot of aggro hunter, miracle rogue, secrets mage, and swarm shaman.

Handlock and Death priest have gone out of favor in the current meta.

It's a constant flux of two or three decks being popular so two or three decks that counter the popular ones become the meta. As those two or three counter decks become more popular than two of three decks that counter those become the new meta game.

That is how you rank up and play the meta. You try and adjust before the mass populous does. Counter the counter, so to speak. Tonight my zoolock countered everything that was being played. Tomorrow zoo will be most likely be popular and I'll probably switch to my Control Mage or make a Death priest deck to counter all the zoo I'll face.

Either the matchmaking is bad or the community is very top heavy. It seems like every match I play now is full of people with multiple non unlockable legendaries, lots of other high end cards and ranked card backs. I almost never see anyone who seems to be comparable to my skill level. I try to git gud but it's hard against these types of players. Anyone else having this problem recently? Without exaggeration I think I lose like 80% of the matches I play, shouldn't matchmaking find me easier targets?

Now I don't claim to be good, but for a while I could hang in with people at my crappy low rank. Now I just get slaughtered whenever I play as well.

I am wondering if it's been out long enough people with lots of experience either started over to get a better ranking faster, or they are using alt accounts to try decks and strategies on people who suck so they can win pretty much no matter what, and earn the money to buy more packs and learn more cards.

Hehe I made someone rage quit. He was beating me and got 5 minions on the board and looked to be buffing them to finish me off...until it was my turn and I threw a "deal 4 damage to all enemy minions" card on the board and wiped out all the minions.

He promptly quit because he only had 1 card in his hand at that point.

It's the new expansion. It's both drawn a lot of people back and thrown the entire meta out of whack. I normally hang out between rank 3 and 5. Now I'm at rank 10-13.

Of course after posting this and losing badly to Psi I went on a win streak. It was mostly default card back people with weaker cards so maybe match making finally felt bad for me.

Also that Piloted Mech dropped me a legendary during a fight with Psi, it didn't help but it was a lot cooler than what he usually drops.

If you're playing casual then its random matches. Matchmaking only works in ranked.

Dudebro
12-14-2014, 03:11 PM
You sure about that? I'd like to see where that's stated by Blizzard. Not that I don't believe you I just like to be 100% sure.

Kugyince
12-14-2014, 03:31 PM
I'm certain by that because I've played against players with legendary rank card backs and nubs with starter type decks back-to-back in casual.

You shouldn't be playing in casual anyways unless you're rough drafting a deck or playing a junk deck for a daily quest.

Kugyince
12-14-2014, 04:05 PM
Yes, rank is the best way to get matched up to other people of your level. The more you play in ranked mode the more accurate it will be, at least until the season ends.

You don't lose anything for losing (you can't go below rank 20) but you can gain something by winning in ranked mode (card backs and golden classes).

I got this with an Enchanted Portal. I waited until the guy almost killed me to use it and I turned the match around and stomped him. He was kinda of trolling with his speech lines the whole time and he probably thought he was gonna win right up until I hit him with a Pyroblast. It felt good man. He sent me a friend invite but I didn't accept it, I figured it was just gonna be rage mail and I didn't have time to engage him.

This was cool. Went from 3 damage to 18, brutal. Enrage/windfury + Taskmaster + Rampage. With no taunt up that pretty much ended the match. Only cost 4 mana seems a bit OP but I'll take it since I won.

Kugyince
02-24-2015, 04:55 AM
Technically it costs 7 as the worgan costs 3 to play. If you replace the task master with the 0 mana spell and run the 3 mana charge spell you can do 22 dmg on the same turn you play the Worgan for only 8 mana. Its the combo my warrior deck runs.

Dudebro
02-24-2015, 07:33 AM
Worgan is also a great way to eat up their removal cards. Most games people rush to get rid of it, understandably.

@Chris- Don't worry too much about it. Just do the tutorial matches and get a feel of the classes. Then pick one you like and build a deck around what style of play you prefer or what class specific cards it has. Part of the fun, at least imo, is trying out different stuff to see what works and what sucks.

@Kugyince- Because you always beat me. I think I only beat you once this whole time.

According to the HS wiki each mode has it's own MMR(matchmaking rating).
Matchmaking - Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Wiki (http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Matchmaking)

@Chrisp- When we played you only had one deck with the full basic cards and you were missing some key cards that you have to get from random packs. You're about as newb as possible, no insult intended. You're late to the party so you're gonna encounter a lot of people with more cards than you. According to the wiki those losses should make your rating go down and you'll start seeing less uber pros who slum in casual for lulz.

I understand that, but it takes twice as long to get new basic cards if all I do is lose to superior opponents. And it's annoying to spend all this time getting the basic cards when I'm losing so much. Not very encouraging.

Dudebro
03-14-2015, 05:07 PM
By basic cards I mean the ones you get from leveling to 10. You shouldn't waste your time playing against people on classes lower than level 10.

You really might have better luck in ranked since it filters people more, or so it seems. You'll still run into decks you can't beat but it should be a little more consistent. Just pick a deck that has the basic cards and you feel comfortable with.

Another thing to consider is the time of day you play. When I play during the day I lose more than the nighttime. I assume it's because the player pool is smaller during the day and that small pool consists of more people who are obsessed with the game. Everyone else has lives and isn't online grinding.

Druid is probably my most competitive deck. If I just played Druid and played for a few hours a day I feel confidant that I could hit Legend rank.

Shaman is my least favorite. I just dislike the extra amount of randomness built into the hero power and class spells.

Rogue is my favorite to play surprisingly enough. Its one of the hardest decks to play, it just doesn't suit the current meta so I never play it.

This weeks brawl is awesome. You get a random boss hero power and every time you use it you get a different one. You can also use it multiple times per round if you have the mana. Obviously inspire cards are super powerful and super fun. When I won my first match I also got 300 gold for winning 1k matches in any game mode, woo hoo. So with four packs to open it put me over the top to craft another legend. I've been wanting this for a while so I decided to just get it-

Now my Priest deck has two minions that can summon random legends. I love it.

Loving this brawl still. Paletress is bananas when they don't remove her right away.

I know no one cares about this game anymore but I thought this was kinda funny. Worst pack ever?

I know nothing of the game, but 4/5 draws being taunts sound pretty terrible lol.

It's not that they're taunts, although it is a pretty mediocre taunt card. The problem is I drew four of the same card in one pack. The odds of that must be astronomical. If I spent real money on this game I might've been pissed.

I know no one plays this atm but I wanted to post this and I got nowhere else to do it. This guy was unable to remove Paltress so I used a faceless manipulator on it and I suddenly had an army of legends. He must've gave up because he tried to just hit my face even though that one legends takes damage for me. At least he was a good sport and stayed until the end.

I got a friend invite after a pretty even match and this guy just ranted for like 15 minutes. At first I assumed he was trolling because he kept flooding the chat window but after he finally started communicating he seemed to really think I was cheating. Apparently I'm using a 3rd party program to "false draw". Even after googling that term I don't understand what it is, if anyone knows please help me out.

This guy is still on my friends list also. He logged on a couple times to yell at me and then just logged out for the night without saying goodbye. He came back on today and hasn't said a word. What a weirdo.

This is how I imaged pinball looked when he logged off from your match http://www.retrouprising.com/img/2016_02/6099.jpg

Damn does he want fries with that salt?

@Joz- he probably looked like that for most of the match too. He was spamming emotes(the only communication with non friends) the whole time. Maybe he was so salty because I kept answering him with stuff like "sorry" and "thanks".

@Chrisp- I found a pic of his house-

That's a salt flat.

Or he could once again be one of the many Gamers who has become so over confident with their own skills or strategy in a particular game that when they lose the only possible answer in their deluded psyche is the other side MUST have cheated.

I can remember years ago playing some online 8-ball pool game through Yahoo that had rankings and the like and one of the players I was matched against right off the bat was annoyed that he was matched against a Canadian player. He told me I was a terrorist and I had better leave the game immediately. Doing so would have meant a forfeit and count as a loss, so I told him no, and that his only options were to forfeit himself or play me.

After much cursing he played me, and after a fairly close game I won. Well he cursed some more, told me I cheated because I'm a terrorist from another country and he was going to report me for cheating etc. Some people are just pathetic like that I guess. :dont-know:

You could always report the guy, DB. It'd be fun to see Blizzard ban his account.

@Elrod- Yeah I get the impression that he is convinced he couldn't lose to me by any normal means.

@Tenser- Next time I log in I'll goad him a little and see if he flips again, then I'll report him.

I know I'm the only person who plays this regularly but I was wondering if anyone else is saving up gold for the next expansion. I've got almost 1.5k saved up so I'll probably be at 2k when it releases. That being said this is the first time I'm not that excited about the new cards. From what I've seen so far it looks like a lot of gimmick stuff that is either a "win more" or "win more annoyingly" card. It seems like standard is gonna be annoying and wild is gonna be completely broken. I'm hoping for the best though.

I had a really fun game last night. I copied this guys Dread Steed then resurrected it. I stole his original one using Shadow Madness and then I used a Kel'thuzad I entombed from him and doubled them. He put up a valiant fight but he got trampled by his own minion. It doubt he enjoyed it as much as I did.

I've been spending my gold on GnG packs since with the new expansion they'll no longer be up for sale and you'll have to craft any GnG cards.

That's not a bad idea but I've opened so many of those and I keep getting duplicates of junk.
