Time for everyone to have a say in the next server.

Hey guys, so we all know a big minecraft update is coming out soon, as well as there's questions revolving around which server to be on (sorta).

Anyways, here's the thread to see what everyone wants out of it, and brainstorm that all into finding our server.

First off, sticking with Dravocraft or going to mineventures is an option.

However, personally I'd like to find a modded server. I know dravocraft had some, but a server that adds anything to it while not giving out cheat mods is ideal, for me anyways.

Not sure about much regarding the mods factor, but the feed the beast thing ten's been talking about adds a bunch of features, no? As well as servers exist out there for it, right?

I don't know, I just know I'll play Vanilla, but if we can add features, why not?

That's my two cents. Let's hear from everyone where they want to go, as well as get some server hunters out there, and we'll try to find some servers that mutually run well for everyone (I can use the family computer for now)

Lastly, in a bit of a race. When's the Minecraft Update? I'm curious what'll come first, my new computer being 100% built, or the update haha.

I don't care much either way as long as the community is cool. The only stuff I hate is creative mode, flying, arbitrary rules like only one person can use a monster spawner. Also PvP, that is just lame in MC and attracts a bad crowd.

Pretty much what I was ruling out as well. Only exception would be multiworld servers where the other worlds house that kind of stuff, and obviously don't let you bring creative stuff back to the normal one. I agree on PVP as well. Not a huge fan.

I can't play on MineVentures due to lag, so a server with less of it would be nice.

PvP is fine when it's not a big focus of the server. For example when we played on that other server it was a huge deal for a large part of the community. There were constant complaints and hard feelings about it. Mods had to babysit and ban people over it. That kind of drama turns me off.

Also, with locations, I don't think there's too many north america hosted servers? If there is, somewhere central is likely the best. If not, I know Quebec is big on servers. Also, no, that likely benefits a lot of you more than me. Coast to coast here. Quebec would be closest to Ten.

This. It has to have a no-PvP zone though. I'd like to have my main house and stuff in a non-PvP zone and then goof off and have fun in a PvP zone house.

Exactly, sounds cool to defend my base and all, but that's the last thing I want to do, unless I'm building in a pvp zone. Designated zones are great.

Go ahead. I'm not sure if most of the bukkit installs have been updated to 1.7.2 so you might not find a lot of servers that have updated yet.

Yeah I was looking. All I ran into was garbage. In hindsight, dravocraft is fine. I'm sure JG's lag issues were temporary.

All the servers I've checked out are no good:

La a ag g g, are full of pixel art, or have annoying newbie rules such as not even allowing you to text until you visit some web page and sign in.

In other words, nothing yet.
In addition, I read that Bukkit {and consequently Forge and Modloader} are slow to be updated this time, as MC code is different now.

SMP servers will not likely be updated until Bukkit and the rest are, as certain mods needed to run a decent MC server depend on those ones.

Ok so let's get on this. I tried MC and it still doesn't work in full screen but it seemed to play normally windowed. I even tried amplified and it worked, after needing to slowly load the awesome chunk I started in.

For making complex structures, yes. A lot of people like to buiild with the land. I can do either, but in my experience, very mountainous landforms don't work in my favour. Picked a seed with one whent he 360 version came out. Never got that far, or built too much nice.

So, yes, I'm with you. I'll go for flatlands, and build a massive fort. If we ended up on a flatlands server it would drive me nuts.
May as well join a Creative pixel art server while we're at it.
{not that there's anything wrong with either of those, just saying it's not my 'thing'}

If it's normal world gen {large biomes are nice too :cute:} there's sure to be some nice mountains and valleys somewhere on the map for old goats like myself,

as well as some nice flatish plains for Ten and Cam to create their giga - structures.
Those new and improved biomes are really cool; I absolutely love the dark oak canopy forests with the giant mushrooms scattered throughout.

I'd like a cool server with the amplified setting but if we play on a normal one I'd be fine too. DN and I tried out an amplified server and had fun. It's no rules or "anarchy" though so I doubt we'd wanna settle the RU clan on it though.

I griefed myself. Built a wood plank floor over a lava pit. I was inside when it caught and would've died if DN didn't warn me. He's a good dog someone give him a treat.

Anyways, we should all find a server and start playing again. Should I look, or should someone else? How about multiple people look, find things out about the server, list the best ones (you think) you've found, and we just vote on it?

As for my never-ending trek to build a new computer. I have half of it done in terms of cost. Car insurance eats up most of next pay cheque. Pay check after that will be huge. Should be the one that ends the need for more computer parts.

Ok so it seems like we might need to look again. I gotta admit I get pretty overwhelmed so I need help. All I care about is the server being survival and limited modifications. Any ideas? Any preferences? Let's brain storm.

I love the amplified, and I would want a large medieval RU Village to play with the other RU dudez! I would want to build and design a lot. I need a better computer too...
