I'm really impressed with the game so far, it seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the series. It's kinda coming off as being as big as the huge triple a western titles, while not being superficial. A lot of bang for your buck.

You're thinking of a different mode.
Upon entering the city that houses the third gym the game asked me to try out Battle Spot, which I did.
Anyways, just cleared the third gym. Team hasn't changed much besides a couple of evolutions:
Delphox - Lvl 37
Venusaur - Lvl 36
Honedge - Lvl 33
Amaura - Lvl 32
Shelgon - Lvl 30
Kirlia - Lvl 29

Well time for my post-game blog seeing as how no one else is talking about this game anymore.
First thing I've decided to do is collect all of the final evos that I can as if this was my first game. Got to prepare for Pokemon Bank after all. Because I'm aiming purely for the final evos I'm going to journey backwards.
Here's what I have before I start:
Absol
Ariados
Aurorus
Beartic
Carbink
Delphox
Dunsparce
Escavalier
Furfrou
Gardevoir
Kecleon
Lapras
Lickitung
Lucario
Masquerain
Miltank
Plusle
Salamance
Sandlash
Smeargle
Snorlax
Stunfisk

Venusaur
Whiscash
Xerneas

As you can see, I have a lot to go. Should be fun!

I got 4-5 badges before I stopped playing, same thing happened on Diamond... I don't know, I just find DQ Monsters to be a superior series. I'm on to link between worlds now, I'll probably pick it back up after that. Link between worlds is friggin amazing btw.

I usually never cared for collecting/catching 'mons but the whole concept of Poke Bank really makes me want to do it. That coupled with a really user-friendly GTS has made this the best of the series.
My only three complaints:
No battle ranking system
The large city is difficult to navigate/explore
The pacing was way out of whack. The two stretches between gym 1 and 2 and between gym 7 and 8 coupled with the quick succession of gyms 2 through 7 made the game feel odd.
Any shinies tenser?
Sorry didn't see your chat thing until now.
No shinies. I've only seen two shinies in all my playing times and one of them was the story related Gyrados.
Post game wasn't as interesting to me as was Black and White 2 for some reason. I still need to catch the Z legendary and Mewtwo. I haven't been playing much lately since I beat the main game.
I find the post-game to be more interesting since it feels much more like an open world to explore and I'm not being pushed in any direction.

Yeah, the list format's going to get way too long.
Wednesday I cleaned out my Friend Safari. I might do some shiny hunting there later. Namely for a Rufflet and Spiritomb.
Thursday I explored Route 20 and the Pokemon Village. I caught the Mewtwo and a bunch of Pokes that I had hurried past previously while trying to get the 8th badge. Jigglypuff, Noctowl, Zoroark, Gothorita, Trevenant, and Ditto.
Yesterday I didn't have much time but I did catch a few on Route 19. Got a Quagsire, Carnivine, Sliggoo, Weepinbell, and fished up a Politoad.

Let's be honest, the technology of the system only allowed the games to go so far. The Pokemon series has great gameplay, fun RPG battle system, and a decent story each game so that's the reason it is still successful. It's fun to make your Pokemon stronger and progress through the gym leaders. Everyone loves to win which is why they make the games so easy to win.

Yeah DQM Joker 1 and 2, the monsters all start off cutesy, but as you progress they get less and less cutesy, and then not cutesy at all. Also, you are allowed access to ares that you full well should not be in, enemies will be way too tough. It's fun to go into these areas and then treat a random encounter like a boss fight, and try to win for epic gold and experience.
Can anyone name a game where you have free run of the entire world and the further you travel the tougher the enemies get? Basically Dragon Warrior/Quest 1, that to me is the funnest style of RPG, but I can't off hand think of any others that do it the same as DW/Q 1.

@Tenser- You don't do much raising. You find an egg randomly. Hatch it and it just follows behind you. It can have an ability or two but it's just a mindless pet that you mainly use to block enemies from surrounding you. Try it some time and you'll see what I mean.
@Steven- I'm pretty familiar with DQ enemies so I'm not worried about the low level cutesy ones. I know they gradually become strangely colored and badass. I've had the games favorited for a while I just never got around to trying them.
Older MMOs have what you describe but I doubt you meant that genre.
