Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn

So the reviews are pretty good so far. It's got beautiful visuals and a rabid fanbase who is mostly willing to forgive the first attempt, before the realm was reborn. The current subscription price is 12.99 a month for one character per server(8 max) or 14.99 a month for eight characters per server(40 max).

So when do we think it will go free to play? I'm guessing 6 months to a year since it's SquareEnix and they are notoriously stubborn.

I realize this may seem mean spirited but it's not meant to be. I'm just sincerely curious what everyone thinks and maybe if we get the ball rolling we can even take bets on it.

well I like it (when I get to play it. Servers are congested so bad that you literally cannot make a new character right now.) ((they're adding more in the next few days)) but I can see why it might not be for everyone.

And considering FF11 is still pay to play, I would imagine not anytime soon.

FF11 is not a good measure since it's almost 10 years old now, it's from the generation of MMOs that all charged. If it released a few years later it'd be ftp and dead by now probably.

Well, I played the XI for like 3 or 4 years, I'm really happy about how this Realm Reborn is turning out to be..... I'm not sure about when they are going to turn to FTP but I think I'm ok with this montly payments, I really rather to have this fixed payment than having microtransactions ... but I think that is a whole new discussion ... I probably will be playing it in a few months or maybe next year, once that I'm settled in my new country and job.

If it goes free to play it will probably try to do it like WoW, in that you can play for free only up to a point and with limited options.

Another option is to be like Dungeons& Dragons, LOTR Online and others. It's "free" but to get the most out of the game you have to by stuff like quest packs in order to keep leveling.

I'm a gamer but I haven't seen one single screen shot nor any gameplay footage ,does it plays like a typical MMORPG? Because I'm not a huge fan of PC style games they're the least talk games out there .

Now I remember we talked about this in chat. I was on Titan server for 4-5 years, I think. I had lots of fun but the game isn't the same anymore. Speaking of that maybe we should take guesses on how long FF11 will last now that ARR is out.

You got any screenshots from your time in FF11? I have lots but I'll just post two of my favorites. First one is my red mage Dudebro. I only got him to around level 60 before I switched to my other character full time. The other character is Schminda the puppetmaster. Got her to 75 but never did much end game. I preferred hanging out with friends and doing small time stuff. Stuff like maxing out alchemy and breeding top of the line chocobos in every color.

@BH- If it goes free to play anytime soon I expect the free part will be very underwhelming. SE needs to make back all that money they lost on this project. Free to play models don't cut it unless the game is wildly popular like TF2.

@Mechtech- Yes it's very much a normal MMORPG. I'm not sure what you mean by "least talk games" though.

And I'm talking about how PC games aren't as popular as Console games .They got ads,commercials, T shirts, special giveaways, movies and shows,snacks and lots of other when it comes to console games.

That was actually when I first started using the name dudebro online. I started FF11 in late 04 I think. I joined RU in 07.

Yeah consoles games tend to be more mainstream. That's how you get all the casuals to buy your stuff ;)

I'm on Moogle. it's an EU server, but all NA/EU servers are hosted in Canada, so it doesn't really matter.

It does play pretty much like any other mmo. I imagine the main draw is the being able to switch classes any time and drawing skills from other classes.


the starting classes are:
Gladiator - Sword and shield. (full tank)
Marauder - Axe (Tank/DPS)
Archer - Bow (DPS)
Lancer - Spear (DPS)
Pugilist - Cestus (DPS)
Thaumaturge - Staff/Rod (DPS)
Conjurer - Rod and shield (Healer)
Arcanist - Grimoire (DPS) ((also has Carbuncle pet to help in fights))


The jobs (advance classes) that I know of currently are:
Paladin - Gladiator lvl 30, Conjurer lvl 15
Warrior - Marauder lvl 30(?), ??
Monk - Pugilist lvl 30, Lancer lvl 15
Dragoon - Lancer lvl 30, ??
White mage - Conjurer lvl 30, ??
Black mage - Thaumaturge lvl 30, ??
Summoner - Arcanist lvl 30, ??
Scholar - Arcanist lvl 30, ??

please note, these are simply the ones that I personally know of. They say they plan on adding more.


There are also crafting and gathering classes. These being:
Goldsmith. (Accessories and bone weapons)
Cook. (Food)
Leatherworker. (Leather armor and more)
Blacksmith. (Metal weapons)
Armorer. (metal armor)
Carpenter. (stuff with wood)
Weaver. (cloth armor and more)
Alchemist. (potions and stuff)

Miner. (Gather class for ore, gems, bones, etc.)
Fisherman. (Fish)
Botanist. (Gather class for wood, sap, etc)


Sadly, the only screenshots I have on me are of me breaking the game in one area. (I could make myself fall through the floor in one of the main towns)

it's mostly when you join a fate and those words are there. that being said, you pretty much don't notice it when you actually enter one. (in my opinion) but yeah, I wanted to put one out there with hud. Mines a little extra cluttered because of my pet bar too.
