Matvor server stuff

I figured we should start a new topic for this to keep things more organized.


The first picture is a nice beach I came across. Nothing special but it just seemed cool for some reason so it gets a screenshot.

The second picture is one of the many ravines I came across in this one biome. This was just the best looking part because of the messed up water. It was kinda dangerous there because the ground was like swiss cheese.

The last one is an awesome desert biome I found. I couldn't get a good shot but that river snakes through a good distance and there's a bunch of big dunes.



I heard they might reset the nether periodically so people can have easier access to its stuff. Figured I'd mention it so no one builds any nice base there. They're also talking about possibly capping the max players and having a queue where donors get higher priority. I'm not liking the sound of that but it might turn out alright.


@Tenser- When I finally get around to building something I was hoping you'd help me set some traps. I wanna make something that people will be entertained by long after we leave the server. Since I can protect the land only mods can cheat and skip it.

Guess I'll have to get in again. We should attach the Minecraft executable to our Steam accounts so that we can see when someone else is playing it.

@DN- I had that same thought tonight, funny.

@Tenser- It wouldn't be anything lethal so the mods won't think it's griefing. If some idiot goes in there with low health, no armor and a lot of valuable stuff he might regret it though.

I was thinking you could help me with some moving walls and pitfalls, redstone stuff. Also any suggestions are welcome.

Well I just mean I didn't plan on having stuff like lava pits or tnt floors. I'd wanna be more creative.

Suffocation traps are pretty easy to make. Could also make traps that drown the player, teleport the player, kill them with potions, etc...

Most of those will require a lot of redstone and a good bit or iron to pull off. Some would even require the occasional maintenance.

I'm worried about fatal traps because the mods have a very low tolerance for anything that even looks like it might be griefing. If it wasn't for that I'd prefer to lace the place with death.

I haven't made a mine yet, been too busy exploring and looking for a spot to build. Once I get more settled I'll have plenty of redstone. I already have a few stacks of iron from caves I found.

I plan on asking a mod to protect the land when I have just the tunnels mostly done so they won't know where the traps are. I don't have much confidence in them keeping it a secret from their buddies. If you have any suggestions on that front let me know.

Well you could time the suffocation damage so it would cause like 3-6 hearts of damage and you could always use something like poison potions instead of instant damage ones, etc...

also, I built a crappy little bridge crossing the river that bisects the plains from the desert just so I could easily ride my horse back and forth. Feel free to make any improvements to it that you see fit.

Might rejoin whatever server here. Been playing again and it runs alright, no different than before. Just means I'm at a low fps around enemies, and I'm better off underground.

I logged into the server, but I started in the ocean! Typing in "/home" only sent me to the spawn. I'll have to wait until someone else is in to do much.

On a side note, I figured out how to show people on steam that you're playing.

Simply pick a random .exe (preferably something that isn't memory heavy) and add it to your steam games list. You can rename it to say "Minecraft" in the game's Steam properties. Just boot this up anytime you're actually playing Minecraft.

Don't forget to turn it off when you're done. That might get annoying.

Yeah our spot on the previous version of the server is now a deep ocean I started there too.

Ok, sounds good. I haven't bothered to get steam back since nothing really works well. Holding off on that until I get a new computer. Hopefully doesn't take too long. I just started searching for jobs today.

1st picture is a view of Tenser house from the top of the hill I built in.

2nd is a cool landscape I found.

3rd is a natural double waterfall that looks like something a noob would make.

4th is another spawner near the surface, I think that's 4-5 I found so far. Almost fell into this one.

So, I've been playing a bit, but I have to ask how long we'll be on this server? I'm panning to get all fancy in what I build this time, and that's time consuming. I don't really want to find out we're on a new server 3 months from now is all.

With that other server I had barely scratched the surface on a project that already took me forever, and then we just left. Hoping that doesn't happen again?

It's hard to say. Tenser and I want to experience the new biomes and stuff but Matvor won't be resetting the server again unless they absolutely have to. They said they'll expand the map to allow more chunks to generate once the update comes out but that means we'd have to deal with a rush of other people soiling the pristine biomes.

I was already thinking of playing on two servers, this one and whatever other one we decide on when the new update comes out. Realistically I'll probably lose interest in Matvor at that point but I'm with you about not liking the idea of building and then abandoning it in a couple months.

It's good to talk about this now so we can figure it out.

Yeah, that right there has me discouraged from doing too much fancy stuff now. Well, yeah, definitely open for discussion, and don't take that as me being negative either. I'm open to whatever. I just don't want to get too attached to anything here now basically. I'll play to play, but all sorts of crazy architecture, I'll steer clear of.

Nothing in Minecraft is ever permanent. For me it's not about enjoying the results of your work, its the actual work. Go as crazy as you want to, Cam.

while I agree, I prefer longer time frames such as several months opposed to just a month or what we might have here.

Basically, I like restarting periodically, but I like being at one place for a long time first. My main complaint was never really getting far into my Project M base. I had 4 towers planned, and barely got the one done along with the underground. That was with months of work too.

I think I'll just scale down what I'm doing this time. Do a lot in one tower and the mountain opposed to the multiple towers I had planned here + Underwater base.

Also, when are you guys usually on, and who is usually on. Additionally is there a mod to have a teamspeak so we can easily see each others messages through the mess of all the other people talking?
