Is anyone else participating in this annual event? I understand some people like DB and WG are bearded year around, as was I until Halloween came along. Anyone going to do before and afters?

I had been bearded for about 5 years up until a few days ago, I'm gonna keep it off for a while. The breeze feels really good lol.

I am not bearded year round. People need to stop assuming I'm as obsessed with my beard as they are.

Oh say it ain't so! What would the ducks say if they knew of this blasphemy?
Dudebro

Well for one I'd hope they know how to spell blasphemy. Ducks don't have beards, I doubt they'd care.

Technically already failed the task. Had Grad photos on the second or the first or something like that, so had to shave.

I always have a moustache, doesn't that count? Actually I was letting the ends grow out anyways so I am able to twirl it, must count.

For goodness sake, DB, you have to accept the beard thing as the admiration it is; it's your totem, your seal of quality, your thing that people know you best by.
Learn to accept the comments about it in a positive light, please.
I know it's been years that this has been going on, but hey, maybe if it keeps up you'll become an internet 'meme' = by the way, I had no idea what No Shave November is, so I looked it up and found this on 'Urban Dictionary'
To not partake in the use of a razor for the entire month of November.
And I said: 'Ah, I see.'
Then it went on to say:
This month has the effect of categorizing men, most of whom will have a girlfriend who disapproves and will counter by offering "No Sex November" as well.
The pussies will cave within the first week and shave.
The candidates will go the whole month without shaving.
But the real men among us will not only not shave but will have sex anyway, once again proving the theory that women are always wrong.
I thought:
When your wife/ girlfriend/ significant mutant reads this, you're going to 'get it' all right, pal - like BANG - ZOOM, to the moon!
And it goes on:
Average douchebag guido chump: I was participating in No Shave November, but my ol' lady wouldn't give me any so I had to shave.
Moderately manly man: That's fucking weak. I went the whole month. Suck it up!
Fucking Viking: Hahaha, you two are a bunch of pussies. I couldn't even keep the bitches off of me this month, because I am a fucking Viking! Ha, ha.
That last one really cracked me up.

I really couldn't. I usher at my church and need to keep clean-shaven.
This is the first time I heard about Movember. I haven't really shaved my beard in over 5 years. I've trimmed it down to about half a centimeter, but that's pretty much it. I don't grow a mustache very well (weird because I'm of Mexican decent), but I'm thinking about giving this a go. I might chicken out, but if I do go for it, I'll post pre and post pics here.

You should switch to the Church of Dudebro.
So the point is to bring awareness to male cancer by getting a bunch of guys to stop shaving?
I live in the Appalachian Mountains. No one around here is going to notice a couple extra beards in November.

No. No Shave November is for not shaving, at all - anywhere. Movember is the mustache charity one.
If you ask me it's just an excuse for wussy dudes to grow some man hair on their faces. There's some taboo in our cultures that says beards aren't ok in "normal" social situations. This gives people a free pass to ignore that.

I've never noticed this at all, can you give an example? Maybe things are different in Canadia.

I'm talking about how it's seen as better to be clean shaven, like how Fenrir said about ushering at church or stuff like going for a job interview. It's not universally looked down on but most of the time you'll hear people saying you should shave before doing something important or saying they don't trust people with facial hair as much as clean shaven people.
Ever notice when they do a "evil twin" thing on shows/movies they usually just have some facial hair? That's part of it too.

No it most definitely goes past a joke. You won't see a politician with facial hair unless he's a fringe candidate. Lots of places require people to shave to get a job working with the public. Ect ect.

Yeah, haha time flies a bit I guess. Still hasn't really sunk in that I'm graduating this year.
I may participate. Never really let myself go more than a week and a bit without shaving (prefer the clean shaven feel), so I don't know how bad it can really get with a month.
In the majority (not all) of the US, facial hair is neither sexy (except for groomed stubble) nor professional.
It normally makes you be associated with rednecks, homeless, hippies, hipsters, psychos, etc.
I currently have the wolverine - mutton chops and reverse mohawk.

I currently have what that chart refers to as the homeless beard and I have the Einstein hair cut, but with dark hair.

That must be some of that metrosexual talk. I prefer the line between groomed stubble and groomed sasquatch. Groomed is the key word. As long as the lines are kept neat, then it is all good. As for my beard, the lady likes it, thinks it's sexy, so that is why I have it.

By my count, I would guess that you have associated with 3, if not 4 of those groups. That is a pretty sweet percentage Mr. Mutton Chop...and what is a reverse mohawk?
To set the record straight. No Shave November is the practice of not shaving for the month of November. This is the more democractic practice as both males and females can participate.
The Movember thing is supposed to be grow and moustache for prostate cancer awareness, which to me, seems a little silly.
In my case, I shaved the beard for Halloween and was going to grow it back anyways, November is a convinent excuse and conversation piece.

You're not a woman and you're not into bearded ladies, I think, so your opinion doesn't really count. Your lady is in the minority.
That is a pretty sweet percentage
I've associated with all but the homeless. Nothing against the homeless, I just don't have much in common with them besides the look of my beard.
This is a reverse mohawk

Ah, but we weren't talking about males vs. females, we were talking about professional and social situations. So, thanks for telling me my opinion doesn't count.
But since you brought up that my lady was in the minority...
Women prefer men with stubble for love, sex and marriage - Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/3345796/Women-prefer-men-with-stubble-for-love-sex-and-marriage.html)
Hirsutes you: Women are more attracted to men with stubble (and they prefer hairy chests and backs too) | Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1324153/Hirsutes-Women-attracted-men-stubble-prefer-hairy-chests-backs-too.html)
They prefer stubble, not beards.
And that link says they prefer hairy chests and backs. I've seen multiple studies that disagree with that.

I usually go between groomed stubble and a thin/short beard during the colder months and clean shaven during the summer.
By thin/short I mean something like this:

I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I'll never grow a full beard. I have always been clean-shaven, outside of a phase in high school when my beard was first coming in. It made me look like a drug dealer, so it had to go.

I live in the NW where most professionals are either rednecks or hippies in their spare time. I got an opportunity to travel when I was younger and I remember getting on a plane from Dallas to Portland and recognizing that these people did not look like the same as the people I had travelled with to Dallas. Even the Blazers billionare owner sports a beard at times.
http://www.retrouprising.com/img/2012_11/1497.jpg
For me, I can't grow a full beard as not much grows on my cheeks and if I went an entire month without shaving, I'd look rediculous.
