The best way to learn is just to jump in and play a couple games. You will be confused, make mistakes and lose but you should get the hang of it after a couple games.

There are 3 basic types of cards.
Treasure Cards - used to buy other cards.
Victory Cards - Points.
Action Cards - Let you perform an action.

Every Round
You optionally play one action card and then you optionally buy one card then you discard all of your cards and draw 5 new ones.

After each round all of your cards go into a discard pile. The cards you bought, the action cards you used, the treasure cards you used and the cards from your hand that you didn't play all go into the discard pile.

After every round you draw 5 cards from the draw pile that you will use in the next round.

When your draw pile is gone you shuffle your discard pile and it becomes your new draw pile. So you never lose cards. When you use a treasure to buy something you will get those treasures back later. You are building a bigger and hopefully more powerful deck of cards.

Each action card has different rules on it that describe what it can do. It might give you an extra buy or an extra action or an extra card that round. It might attack the other players. Etc.

You need Victory Cards at the end of the game to win. They give you points. But during the game they have no value so they bloat your deck. If you draw a hand of 5 victory cards then you can't do anything that round and have to skip your turn. So you do not want to get any points until the game is nearly over.

The game ends when either 3 stacks of cards are gone or the stack of 6 point green victory cards is gone.

You start the every game with 7 coppers (worth one coin each) and 3 estates (worth one victory point each). You shuffle those so you start with a random combination of those cards.

The available cards in each game will be different. There is about 200 different types of cards but each game only uses about 10 so there is a lot of variety.

There are a few other special rules that will change based on what cards are in play. Such as you can get cards that will let you trash a card which completely removes it from the game or you can get a curse which is a negative point.

We can try to schedule a time to play together later and I can walk you through a game.
