Ok, so long story short. There was a Tornado warning. I freaked out and made a little emergency bag with a radio, batteries, flashlight, etc. Nothing happened. I learned a valuable lesson. I don't know enough about natural disasters. I had no idea it wasn't a "big deal" and I should of just sat through it.
This can either be really dumb or fun/informative, but I thought I'd try to get a natural disasters thread going and talk about what we should do in case of each type while demystifying Hollywoods portrayal of them.
Here I was thinking Tornados rip apart buildings like in simcity :q

They do rip apart buildings, sometimes far worse than Sim City.

Where I live I don't have to worry about natural disasters. If they do hit New England they'll be so random and severe they'll be impossible to plan for or do anything about.

There's usually a few torando warnings every year around here, but not many ever get too close to here.
We get hurricanes in my section and we're used to it. Unless it's a class 4 or more, I don't budge and just stock up with water and canned foods. Flash lights and lighters are also really handy no matter what the situation is.

I look forward to abnormal weather. I just enjoy it more than calmness.

When the tornado sirens go off here(happens maybe 3-5 times a year) the first thing I usually do is go outside and look for a funnel cloud>:D
Then I grab my portable radio, put shoes on(if a tornado does happen and your house gets damaged you want something on your feet), and go down into the basement.
A tornado actually did touch down here very briefly last year(only a second or 2 before it dissipated), but did no damage and just blew some garbage around.

I'm lucky.
I live in an area where natural disasters aren't particularly a risk.
I mean, we get pretty bad wildfires from time to time, but those are off in the countryside surrounding the city.

I'm starting to think our snow storms do more damage then a lot of stuff in the movies. If by some freak chance the US gets a massive snow storm (like 6 feet of snow) the first thing to go is usually the pipes. We got a saying here, snow means slow. Drive slow (loads of black ice). Having a bag of melting salt or sand is usually handy to keep in the back of your car (so the tires can tred on something if you get stuck) and also helps melt ice on walk ways.

I guess our snow reaches natural disaster levels from time to time.
Also, there was Ice Storm. It was in the headlines when my dad and I were in San Antonio that year, or so he claims. I scarcely remember the details of that trip. I was not but three years old.
hurricanes are the worst i got, but since i live in the center of florida it dies out before it reaches me

We never get tornado's where I live. Once there was a warning on a really gloomy day and it was the day our 6th grade class was going to go to camp for a week, but the warning lasted so long and the power was out at camp, so we called it off until further notice.
Then 10 seconds later the warning was cleared.:tremble::excruciating::'(
