Ok, I just got a new computer, and i want to try playing a game with my xbox controller. But when i plugged it in, and it was installing it, it said it failed because windows couldn't find a driver for it. So I went into the start menu, devices and printers, and went to the controller, and tried "Update Driver", and it still says windows couldn't find the driver. (running windows 7 64-bit)

you have to download the driver from microsoft's website

I went and downloaded "Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2 64-bit for Windows 7 .............(exe)" from the site, but I dont know what else I need, there's nothing else on that list other than that

It's strange because on a windows XP computer I have, I installed that software, and then plugged in the controller and it worked fine. On my old laptop, it worked fine too. But on this one it says it cant find a driver for it

Is it an official MS controller? Does the controller work, like no damage to the connector?

Its an afterglow, and i used it 2 days ago on the XP, to play fire red, it worked perfectly fine then

I did a quick search and found this -
XBOX CONTROLLER WON'T WORK ON PC - Microsoft Answers (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/xbox-controller-wont-work-on-pc/8693c6d2-eebe-4d3c-a675-ad2ab62a72e1)
It's a year old but it seems like other people had a similar issue and they got it fixed by following the links.

Afterglow seems to be officially licensed but I find it strange that the driver is giving you trouble. I've used several MS 360 controllers and I've never had to do anything besides plug it into the PC and wait for it to install, takes like 2 seconds.
