Inspired by the free-stuff threads going on now, here's a link to a official download of The Elder Scrolls: Arena

I have no clue how to install Arena (yet) but I do know how to do it for Daggerfall.

Extract the .zip file into your hard drive, not on Program files or anything, just in your harddrive, so it should be c:\dfinstall.

now, you need DOSbox for the next part
Download that HERE (http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1)

run DOSbox, first, type "mount c c:\dfinstall\dfcd\"
then, type "c:"
then, type "c:\dfcd\install"
then follow the on screen instructions to install the game.

afterward, to run the game, type "fall z.cfg "
and the game should run.

Okay, found instructions for installing Arena.

In Windows, extract arena106.exe to C:\Documents\DOS.
In DOSBox, change to the arena directory and type install.
Choose "Configure game", followed by "Select music card". Choose "General MIDI or MPU-401"
Choose "Done", followed by "Exit".
Run Arena by typing arena.

I remember a long time ago a dude I worked with played these and swore by them. Myself I only started with morrowind. Are they any good or should I just start a new guy in Skyrim like I've been planning?

They're definately worth checking out. I myself am having quite a bit of fun with Arena.

Anyways, I think it's like Fallout. It takes some time getting used to, and getting anywhere seems to take a while, but it's pretty solid.

Then again, my memory betrays me again and again. I remember liking it though.

its kind of funny, i had these two for months now, i finally find out how to get them to run and when i finally get into the game, it runs soooooooooooo slow.... i dont even know why... i have a pretty good graphics card....

@tenser they're permanently free. I don't think the plot is superconnected, so you COULD play 2 before 1 if you want.

@Katz, try increasing the clockspeed of DOSbox, I believe it's something like ctrl+f8

Thank you kindly. The combat system takes a while to get used to, but it's fun. The beginning dungeons are....interesting, to say the least. I wasn't aware I had a weapon in my inventory and tried to take on goblins barehanded.

About the lore of The Elder Scrolls games. I'm pretty sure I read that they all do work together but the ending of Arena is kinda retconned so it fits better. Daggerfall had multiple endings if I remember right so they have all the endings count in what is called "The Warp in the West", ties up all the loose ends. Morrowwind, Oblivion and Skyrim all gel together without any issues though.

Btw I'm pretty sure I also read that Arena has the most total land to explore, but it's randomly generated. The game looks alright, like a better version of Wizardry, but Daggerfall looks much cooler.

It was actually Daggerfall that had the large world (around the size of the UK according the Bethesda's site.)

As for the plot... you got me there, I have no clue.
