For anyone that is interested, the Mass Effect 3 demo is out today on XBL.

For anyone that doesn't have gold service with XBL, you get a Gold trial for downloading the ME3 demo.

Also if you play the ME3 demo you get items for the game Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning. I believe you still get ME3 items for completing that demo too, should be until ME3 comes out. The full game already came out so I'm not sure.

You getting ME3 Jim? If so we should play some coop together.

I'll download the demo, if for no other reason than to get the items for KOA:R, the gf is waist deep in that one right now.

I know ME is a hugely great franchise, my problem is that I played about 2 hours of ME1 and wasn't satisified and put it down. Never played ME2,

I am curious about the multiplayer of ME3, hence why I"m curious to try out the demo, see what I'm missing. If the chance comes up, yeah, I might try some multiplayer.

and if it is true that playing the KOA demo gives you items in ME3, that could work in my favor has the gf played that thing all the way through.

I really didn't like KOA, seemed like a slightly darker version of Fable. The demo is about 45 minutes long. You get one ME3 item right at the start but the other you get after you completely finish. All you have to do is burn through the intro to the game, pretty easy and linear. Then once you get into the main world you just kill 45 minutes. Since I didn't like the game I just let it sit there while I used the computer and checked it every ten minutes or so to advance the menu telling you how much time you have left. Also make sure you log into or register for an EA origin account. If you don't you won't get anything. For playing the ME3 demo you get several ME themed items, your wife will probably love it.

I posted a question about the demo on the ME board to make sure you still get the items since the game is out. If you wanna wait I should get a reply within an hour or two. If not I'm 99% sure you do anyways.

Sounds like you ran into the same issue myself and a lot of others had with ME1, the start is pretty boring. I started it and then put it off for a month because the first mission and the Citadel was a chore. Once I got passed that though the game really picked up. ME2 was good but most of the time was spent on character development. Even if you don't play the first two you'll be caught up on the story for the third. The only thing you miss out on is the game changing decisions that carry over between the games. You'll get the standard game start that all newbs get. Not bad but it's not personalized. For example, Spoilers ahead, I didn't kill off Wrex the Krogan because I really liked him. In ME2 he was still alive so the storyline was different when I visited the home planet, he was in charge. Instead of dealing with some douchey leader I met up with an old friend who had unique dialog and stuff, it was awesome. Can't wait to see what happens with him in 3. People starting fresh will not meet him, he's been dead since 1 in the vanilla start. :(

Btw the demo that's out now is only single player. The multiplayer ME demo is out in a couple days.

How would I go about signing up for this EA business?

When you start ME or Kingdoms it should prompt you. Your wife might've already done it or skipped it if she's playing the game already. I think you could also just go to EAs site and make an account but I wouldn't, then you'd probably have to d/l Origin to your PC and that isn't a good idea. I will only use it for consoles.
