The FBI has classified fans of the Detroit-based hip-hop band Insane Clown Posse--who call themselves Juggalos and paint their faces like their heroes--as a violent, fast-growing "gang" worth monitoring. The Juggalos are highlighted in the bureau's 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/SIG=15t7vipbn/EXP=1321538812/**http%3A//www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/2011-national-gang-threat-assessment/2011%2520National%2520Gang%2520Threat%2520Assessme nt%2520%2520Emerging%2520Trends.pdf) as a "non-traditional gangs" alongside the traditional ethnic-based Asian, East African and Caribbean gangs; the report classifies Juggalos among "hybrid gangs" such as the Latin Kings.


According to information from the National Gang Intelligence Center cited in the report, the Juggalos "are rapidly expanding into many U.S. communities" and "engage in criminal activity and violence."


Law enforcement officials in at least 21 states "have identified criminal Juggalo sub-sets," according to the NGIC.

How exactly are Juggalos a gang? They aren't organized in any great way. Sure, some of them might do violent things, but that shouldn't be our view of the group as a whole. They're just weird.

It may seem strange but they do fit into this definition-
a group of youngsters or adolescents who associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, especially such a group engaging in delinquent behavior.They're very exclusive and they certainly act like a typical gang when it comes to watching out for their own.

I think the problem is people are hung up on the stereotypical depiction of a gang. It doesn't need to be like the mob or a street gang to be classified that way.

Do you agree that juggalos look inward towards their group and say to hell with other people and authority figures? That's how the juggalos I know act, maybe you're only exposed to a small town version? No insult intended of course. My point is gangs vary depending on their environment.

Its a mix of who you talk to, im in a very isolated area so it doesnt really matter which is which, i think there are only 6 of us where i live, some of them just stay home and smoke pot, i just play my games...

Do juggalos have a connection with other music fans who face paint? I walked by a place where Gwar was playing recently and it looked like hundreds of juggalos. I think one or two people were in armor or w/e.

I thought the same thing. Last time I heard of them was back when Beavis and Butthead used to play their videos. Apparently they have a pretty good following still if all those people(younger than me mostly) showed up in face paint.
