Hey everyone! Hope Im allowed to post this here....

The next knockout tournament is being organised over at MARP. Everyone is welcome to enter so please do!

This tournament has featured some of the highest levels of gameplay on MAME and this year looks to be no different. Even if you dont enter, pop on over to the site when the competition has started and check it out!

The games have not been announced yet, as there is a new co-ordinator whom wanted to see if there are enough players interested. So far it looks around 20, so numbers are good.

You should suggest they play here. ;) It's easier and more secure.

I'm familiar with their recording rules with wlf and inp files. Our system is more strict, just more automated.

Already 54 players have signed up from 13 different countries!! With more still to come. The games will hopefully be announced within the week!!

There are now 74 confirmed players from 15 different countries! This is going to be one of the best Knockout tourny's yet.

I have to apologise as I have been a bit misleading, it seems as though the games will be annouced week by week.

Round 1 commences at the time given above, and ends on the 6th November at 23:59:59 GMT

Rules and general info will be posted prior to the commencement of the tournament.

If you are still waiting for your MARP forum account to be activated, it should be done as soon as possible (they have been going through them in lightning speed) but this cant stop you from playing :)

Unfortunately not. You will have to download WolfMAME 0.106 or 0.143, record your gameplay and submit through the MARP website.

I don't know how to do that and I can't really download stuff on the computer I primarily use due to it not being mine. I don't think I'll be able to play this then :(

Even if I could download all the stuff, I have a VERY limited amount of time to play without having to pause every few minutes. Pausing is against the rules and I'll only have like 20 minutes a day at most to submit a legit score.

You can join anytime during Round 1 (ends this sunday) and I think you can still join during round 2. It says in the rules but I only had a quick glance over.
For now you are fine, though. :D

Thanks buddy! I'm trying to really give it the old RU "kapow!". I can't wait to see what impressive thing I do next. Maybe I can even turn on my gaming PC and get the software or plug in the controller. That'll learn 'em. :clap:

I don't know about that. THere are some mean players up in there. Bagel is most definitely a top tier player, but some of those guys could go toe to toe with any of our big guys.

We should all make a pact to take part in marp10 and absolutly trounce everyone. I'm not sure but I suspect that we on this site have sharpened each others skills to the point where most of us are well above the skill level of the average player and may not even realise it.

yeah we have my first score I submitted was 151k, then 187k, and now I almost jumped a 100k different who knows I might break 300k

thanks guys the ice stage is a pain I did a non recorded run of the whole game and the last 3 bosses are impossible and the last boss is cheap after you beat him half way down and spams a fire attack.

Good stuff. Keep at it. You and Jozzer (time permitting) may be the RU reps in this one. I'm not sure if I am going to even be able to get this game going.

Did some emu tests last night on my new laptop and it's not going so well so far. I might still be in if I can get some more RAM before Sunday, but not sure yet. Keep on keeping on Wolf. :dance:

I agree totally Steven - however it would be twice as cool if we got them over to "our place" for a tournament next time. Kong's system walks all over theirs in the user friendly stakes. I'm sure Barra would be happy to invite some of his chums over nearer the time. Be good publicity to boot as well.

Yeah your right there, this place is MUCH easier to submit to, thats what makes it so awsome :D
However the advantage over there is everyone can download everyone elses recording, so cheating/use of a banned tactic is minimised. Not saying people cheat here as the mods would pick it up, but it takes away that element of doubt.

When K9 is over you guys over here should get something together and I'll post around to try and recruit a few more people. I know myself and unclechicken would be keen to take part :)

Anyway, think Im done with this weeks game. Thought I might be able to crack 500k but turns out I was one screen away from the last boss and I really cant be bothered trying to point press the whole game! Bring on Round 2!!! :D

Still, Im in 3rd (!) now haha. Someone has finished the game (the last boss is just insane compared to the others) so props to them! 46 players have submitted thus far, which is an awsome number.

Nope, I haven't been able to get to the Ice boss at all. Those bouncing balls are tough to get past.

Yep they are tricky. That stage has a bit of luck involved. I pretty much always lose one life there. My strategy was to miss every crystal and just focus on dodging the balls and getting to the finish.
Oh BTW, if your planning on getting further in this game make sure you check out my recording soon, it will give you an easy strategy for the Ice-boss (IMO the hardest boss with the exception of the very last)

How does the tournament work?
For example what place (if any) do you need to get to move on?
How many rounds?
When do they announce the next game?
When is the deadline for starting? Or has it already passed?

Its a knockout style, where you will be seeded based from your round 1 score.

They announce the game at the very conclusion of the round/start of the next round.
Its still Round 1 now and you can join up until the end of round 2 (I think)

I think having our site challenge another to a friendly contest is a great idea. I think it would bring alot of us out of our current slumber to join forces and prove elsewhere that R.U. is a great place to compete. Eternal Champions and Vicious Breed working together under one common banner, what a feel good story. Tons of strong competitors beyond those 2 teams on this site.

You could award scaling point values for a top 10 ranking in each game. This would reward a sites depth of talent as well as who the top dog is for each game. First site to a pre-determined point value wins bragging rights. This point value should be at least higher then 5 rounds of a perfect sweep. The two sites would probably have to alternate who conducts the random game selection for each round. If this ever happens, give us tons of heads up so we can book off of work and send the wife and kids to visit relatives...

Yep just seen that!!

Yeah just have to beat your opponent, although its nice to have the top score :)
Im a bit worried my opponent has only submitted one INP, he might be waiting until the end with a massive score!! :P

Barra I am having trouble setting up my wolfmame 1.4 I have the alcon and slapfight in my roms file but they are not working saying missing rom image or chd image I asked on the other site but they didn't help me well.

Yeah I had that same trouble aswell, I believe the ROM files were updated, so you will need to use google and find a recent set of them. I'd provide some links but dont think Im allowed to.

I'm not going to even entertain this game. I hate Street Fighter type games so much. Don't see the point in them at all.

I must admit it isnt the *best* choice for a tournament, actually not close to it.

People have experience with these type of games or they dont, no in between.
Games for a tournament such as this "should" be chosen from popularity (less popular games=higher priority) and randomness. It should be about who can adapt the best to an unknown game, not who has the most prior experience

Not trying to take anything away from the organiser (TRB) as we wouldnt have a K9 without him

If you don't know how to play SF type games then pick Ryu and spam
Hurricane Kick:D,DB,B + K

That is roll down to back and kick.

After you get to where you can do that over and over you can beat most scores.

This link picks random score enabled games. We used it once to pick games for a contest.
