Discussion for any skins/texture packs you want to share, recommend, ask for, etc.

My favorite skin is the one I've been using since I started Minecraft. Good ol' Luigi skin! :p

I have no texture pack but Tenser told me about the "John Smith Texture Pack" which looks really cool. I know there are a lot of other cool ones out there. Anyone got any good recommendations for texture packs?

Skins doesn't affect me at all. Haven't used texture packs yet though I'll be using the one Ten linked. I'll let you know if I notice any changes.

I'm hoping one of you guys can help me out here; I downloaded the Misa's Realistic Texture Pack and am unable to locate these Zip files you're supposed to copy {NOT extract} into your MC texturepacks folder within the MC directory.

I have a program to view or extract such files but am unable to locate them within the Misa Application file.
This is what I see:

@Joe- Search your "Downloads" folder if you have one in your Documents. It might be there

"C: \Documents and Settings\Chris\My Documents\Downloads" This is where it is located for me on my comp.

If you do locate your texture packs, go to "Start" in the bottom left corner and then hit "Run". Copy and paste this:

%appdata%/.minecraft/texturepacks

And then hit enter. It should open a folder. Drop your texture pack into this folder and then go onto Minecraft. hit Mods and Texture Packs and switch from Default to the Texture Pack you want.

This is what's happening:


Cleaning Your Installation (DO THIS BEFORE INSTALLING THE PACK)

1. Hit Windows Key + R to open the Run console.
2. Type in and enter the following: %appdata%/.minecraft/
To reach the folder on a Mac:
1. Open Finder.
2. Navigate to the following: (Username)/Library/Application Support/minecraft.
3. That should open a folder, in that folder delete the bin folder.
4. Run Minecraft and let it patch. When that's done, close Minecraft completely.

Did all this.

I also downloaded the accompanying 'MCPatcher', and followed the instructions to the letter as posted on the instruction page.
When I downloaded the Misa's Realistic Texture Pack, it created an icon 'Minecraft' on my desktop.
This is an Application file, and the only interface I've seen to the actual tex pak itself.

My real question is: how do I get at these Zip files that I'm supposed to copy into the MC texturepacks folder?
The icon the program created launches Minecraft, that's all.
The only other thing I've seen of it is as I posted above.

I figured out the problem.
Apparently what I want to do is impossible without either Winzip or Win RAR, and I don't have either.
Went to Majorgeeks which has both programs, but they co$t.
The free programs they have promise to unzip or archive into .zip or .RAR, but none that will allow me to simply access the .zip files I'm after.

All I want to do is plop them in the minecraft folder!

MCPatcher seems to glitch Minecraft occasionally for those who play SMP in 1.8.1 like we do.

It was the cause of my server log in problems and I suspect it's the cause of Crispy's as well.

How to uninstall MCPatcher without losing anything:
1. Open your .minecraft folder and copy files you want to keep.
-servers.dat stores your multiplayer server data
-stats folder is self-explanatory
-saves are your single player worlds
-screenshot are self-explanatory

2. Paste those on your desktop

3. Delete the .minecraft folder

4. Start minecraft to redownload

5. Cut/paste desktop files and folders into .minecraft



I would highly recommend only using texture packs that are "standard def" and as such do not use MCPatcher. Avoid anything that says 32x32 or 64x64.

I am currently using the Quandry Pack which offers a "six-in-one" seasons texture array.

OH YES, I figured it out, and got Misa's Realistic Texture Pack working!

You do not need to have Winzip or WinRAR as I previously guessed.
Use the search window {the one that finds files, folders, or programs on your computer} to locate 'Misa306', which is the zipped file you need to copy and paste into your .minecraft texturepacks folder.
{don't unzip it!}

I'm very pleased to have figured this out.
Now the only issue is that I don't think I have enough RAM or perhaps my video card may be slowing it down a bit, I can't tell which.:doh:

Technically I have 3GB RAM, but I'm running Windows Vista which eats up 2GB itself.
So that leaves me with 1GB.

The videocard I don't know about.
In any event I can't afford new hardware.

Pigmen can be spawned if lightning hits a pig.

Btw if MC looked like that I probably wouldn't play it. I'm a big wuss when it comes to horror games. It's not that I'm scared it's just the constant tension of being in the dark and knowing it's so dark because something horrible is lurking in it. I like to be kinda relaxed when playing a game.

I suppose this is as good a place as any to explain to RU MC online players on Guardian's server that my copy of MC stopped going online shortly before X - mas, and hasn't been able to reconnect since.

I've tried everything including deleting the game {.minecraft} entirely after backing it up elsewhere and it just says 'game not downloaded'.
So it seems that Mr. Astley will have to live on without me, never again tasting of my sweetly charred flesh ...

ON TOPIC:
I have about 70 or more texture packs now, most of them interesting and a few are quite notable.
If I had enough RAM I would run Misa's Realistic {Misa306} all the time.
{alas I do not have nearly enough RAM, and that's no bull}

So I stick with the 16 and 32 pixel packs, usually 16 pixel medeival style packs, and there are some really good ones out there.
I like:

Four Towers - made for the Adventure Map by the same name.
AlephSetei - turns MC into an Alien world. Wait until you see the Mobs.
ColdtonePack - everything is rendered with a blue hue. {64 pixel}
Corococraft - nice medieval pack made by someone who is colorblind.
Craftslevania - some elements from Castlevania.
Dokucraft - 3 variations in one download, all are nice.
Dorian Alpha - another nice medieval pack.
Dustycraft - this is the one with 'Mr. Astley'.
Gerudoku - interesting pack.
Girlcraft - very refreshing, except it's not updated to 1.0
Glimmar's Steampunk - interesting and different. H.G. Wells - ian.
Inspiration 32 - very good hostile Mobs in this one, but it's a work in progress and incomplete.
Jolicraft - bright, happy
Kakariko Village - Legend of Zelda inspired textures.
Kantos/Kenget Albion - nice pair of packs.
Last Days - this is really different. Post - apocalyptic theme, and also comes with optional alternate sound effects .. you should see the Mobs!
Mariocraft - Mario 64 inspired theme.
Markocraft - Super Mario 3 inspired theme.
Nagareru - {flowing} a nice Japanese - themed pack, turns certain trees to beautiful Sakuras in full bloom.
Ovo's Rustic - exceptional rustic/medeival pack, is it 32, or is it 64 pixel? - I can't tell!
Pokecraft - Pokemon theme textures.
Sinecraft - an unusual pack, neat textures.
Steelfeather's Enchanted pack - nice Victorian theme.
Super Mario Pack/Underworld theme - two packs that make you think you're playing 8 - bit original SMB.
The Pastel Pack - nice bright colored blocks, low resolution and RAM friendly.
The Creep Pack - something with the pigs ..
Trippin Craft - Far out, man.
Tronic - nice low resolution pack.

Voxel Box - hey, it's the Voxel Box! All 5 of their custom packs are updated.
Pangea
Deep Space {Turtle Chase? I'm not sure if this was the one used in that Adventure Map}
Organix
Modern
Palceon

VillainCraft - Dr. Evil would approve.
Xaiwaker/Fall - Swirly, like.
Zelda Texture Pack - you know.
{32X}DokiDoki Texture Pack - Anime fans will like this one.

... and I know there are lots of great/interesting packs I didn't mention such as the legendary JohnSmith 32 pixel realistic pack, but I just wanted to mention a few that I play with often.
Generally I recommend you get as many as you can, because it all comes down to personal taste in the end, and you guys may not enjoy these packs as much as I do.

A lot of the low - resolution packs are kind of redundant in my opinion, so I only mentioned the ones I find stand out in the crowd.
Also, for people with limited RAM, the game runs smoother if you go into 'Options', select 'Video Settings', and toggle 'Particles' to 'Minimal', then toggle the clouds to 'Off'

Have you tried asking for support on the MC forums? If you don't wanna for some reason I will. You can't just accept it and not play online anymore.

Did you delete everything MC related? Like even the files that are kinda hidden where the screenshots are? %appdata% and then .Minecraft.

I've been using the TF2 Engineer skin since I started playing MC I believe. I usually like changing my skins/costumes in games but at this point I think it is my skin. It helps that I never see anyone else wearing it too.

The other thing about it was, building scenery along a rail 15+ minutes long would have been an enormous undertaking with no guarantee the rider would be looking the 'right' way at any given time!

To be fair it was an impressively long minecart ride and taken as just that it was a lot of fun.
I still wonder what those huge chunks of stone were at one end - I made the 'Retro Forever' sign on the side of one of them.

{also I made a train station, a mining camp, small houses and farms along the way, castle ruins in the background .. then Kitty got in there and started building a village .. but that's history now}

ON TOPIC:

I've had the same skin since I started playing, the 'Daft Punk' skin, as some call it.
If you'd ever tried making your own skin then you would appreciate what it takes :pissed-off:, and consequently why people say they want you to ask permission before using it in a mod, etc.

I wanted to change it before, but now I've become so used to it, it's like why bother, you know?
