I think I'm using version 3....I only updated FF once since I installed it and that gave me problems at first. So now I don't update at all unless I'm forced to do so.

there is something wrong with ff, but they haven't fixed it yet...
Some sites just give you error for no noticeable reason while others work very slow unlike google chrome which always manages to amaze me. But i'm still using ff just because i like it's user interface a lot more. Too bad they don't really fix those issues, they just trow them out under different versions.
I guess they just want to reach bigger version numbers for competitive reasons :\

One thing FF needs to fix is the unbalanced memory. Mine can go up to 500k kb

Forced as in I clicked on the browser today and it came up and said it was already updated. No questions asked. Not sure why it did that though.

Go to Options, advanced, update, and change the button where it says ask when updates are found DB.

The first 3 versions lasted 6.5 years. The last 3 versions lasted less than 6 months.

And they are simultaneously working on versions 3-9 right now.

The what's new list is pathetically small. They shouldn't be releasing new versions like this with such small changes. The upgrades could easily be handled with increment releases as in 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 or with plugins. It is turning into bloatware with all of the mandatory plugins they are adding.

And the reason why your plugins keep saying they are incompatible nearly always has nothing to do with compatibility. When you create a plugin you have to say what version it will work for. If they release a new version every couple months that is almost identical except it has a different product number then it breaks the compatibility check.

One thing FF needs to fix is the unbalanced memory. Mine can go up to 500k kbMine too. This is a big problem with FF. IE has a problem of spiking the CPU instead of the RAM. Spiking the RAM will slow most computers down more but spiking the CPU causes the fan to run full speed which I find annoying. That is my main reason I avoid IE.

FF 7, 8 and 9 are all supposed to be released within a couple months of each other too.

FF7 is supposed to reduce memory usage by 50%.
FF8 is supposed to be as fast as Chrome which is pretty fast.

If that is true then FF7 and 8 will really be worth the upgrade. 4, 5 and 6 not so much. I still use 3.6.

I was satisfied with 3.6, but I was forced to update to 4, I adjusted to 4, and was forced to update to 5, I am still at 5, and I'll stay on it as long as I can.
I like it. I don't want to update.

I'm running Firefox 6 and i can still do that just fine. Dunny why you can't do it. I haven't noticed a single difference between FF5 and FF6, even compatibility with addons. makes me wonder they are doing.

Maybe tmo of my add-ons were incompatible but, they were just ones I am forced to have installed, I always have them disabled anyway.

@Elrod- For me, it said it is disabling arcadeox unless user wants to enable it. I enabled it, but it said it is disabling it until user manually installs it. So, I went to a game and it let me re-download ArcadeOx and it worked fine.

It always tells me that when I update. I update anyways and it has never broken.

Early in 2011 the Mozilla group decided to start a more formal cycle of releases of 18 weeks between major versions, rather than the multi-year development periods of previous releases.. Each major release goes through six weeks of nightly, alpha, and beta builds before release.

I personally don't agree with changing the big number so much, but in the end that is only a cosmetic change. They haven't broken anything with it yet, and it is always getting better, so it's fine by me.

Firefox plugins like AOX must list all product numbers they support. That system does not work if the product number changes every month or 2 for no reason.
