Hi, been on the site for the last few days so its about time for a formal introduction :D
Im Andrew from Dunedin in New Zealand, studying Forensics at University (any other kiwis here?)
Im too young to have lived/played during the golden era of gaming, with the arcades and whatnot, but I love to play MAME a lot and compete over at Twin Galaxies for high scores. Have already submitted some here, but there should be many more to come!
I also love console gaming, SNES/N64 and anything playstation.
So yeah thats me. Hope to get to know some of you a bit better!

I did a quick search and it appears only one forum member has claimed kiwi heritage. But he was banned for being a troll so he can't confirm it for us.

There's this though-
Retro Uprising - Arcade - New Zealand Story, The (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/2678/)
I hear it's a factual representation of life in New Zealand.;)
Welcome to RU.

Well Ill be the first kiwi that doesnt get banned then :P
Are you kidding or is that actually something you've heard? Ive never even seen the game let alone played it. Might have to give that one a go, too!.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Well to be honest I don't know what to believe from that guy so as far as I know you're the first Kiwi.
Nah I'm totally kidding. The game seems to be about the kiwibird
The New Zealand Story - YouTube
Btw I had to laugh at the highest rated comment
I actually live in New Zealand and wish to complain that this game bears no resemblance to the country I live in. New Zealand is not lined with spikes with people riding around on birds firing arrows or throwing boomerangs at you!
That's sad to hear. I'd be more apt to travel there if you guys had people riding birds.
Barra

Lol! Thats awsome. We may have people riding sheep ;)

What manner of riding?

Why did I have a feeling someone would chime in with that comment! haha.
Tenser always goes there. He's a freak like that. Anyways, welcome to RU. You have started well in the high scores. I played Special Forces (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/6306/) and it was tough to beat stage three.
Barra

Hi! Thanks :D
On Special Forces 1, stage 3 is the last stage which is actually possible to beat, when you get to stage four you will know what Im talking about!
Special Forces 2, the difficulty of stage 4 eases up dramatically, although it is still very hard to pass.
To maximise points on these games you have to shoot the ladies which appear from the top (stage 2) 4 times each, netting 1000 points per hit. My best on SP1 is around 267K, and the video of it is on my youtube (not sure if Im allowed to post the link?)
Cheers!

@Barra: I see no issues posting youtube vids as long as it's within the rules. We all have videos on there that were recorded on our score mode.

Oh kool. Well if you want a look, then heres the link Special Forces (1) (MAME) WR 267850 - YouTube
I have a few scores on there from MAME, which are worth checking out! They might give you some insight in how to beat some of my scores :D
I figured you shot a bunch of those rooftop ladies. Do you run out of bullets or is stage three simply hand to hand combat?
Barra
08-15-2011, 10:47 AM
Simply hand-to-hand, making it harder. But then stage-4 is basically every stage combined (in the sense of enemies) with hand-to-hand combat. They cant've done a product test before release, lol
