I read this interesting article talking about the differences
between Spamming, and good keep away, and why they are often
confused. It's a good read for fighting game lovers.
To Spam or Not to Spam: The Fine Art of Fireballin’ The Flashy Review (http://flashyreview.com/2011/08/09/to-spam-or-not-to-spam-the-fine-art-of-fireballin/#more-574)

I have a definite line for spamming/fair keep away game. Are they actually trying to do other moves and combos, or are they just shooting off hadouken like the Fist of the North Star? Are they trying to approach and get into position for a strike, or are they just shooting off hadouken like the Fist of the North Star?
Now, you may ask yourself "What does he mean by 'shooting of hadouken like the Fist of the North Star'?" Well, it just means shooting off at an unreasonable speed.

The way I see it is that it is spamming if the opponent is a scrub. Skilled players know how to deal with repeated fireballs, and won't allow for than a few in a row before they are combo-ing their ass like the fist of the north star.

Sucks for the new players though. I remembered starting out SSF4 and getting destroyed by spammers :(
Now I'm alright at it and can get out of the spam moves most of the time.

Spamming fireballs is nothing new. What's troubling is the new intense focus on spamming combos. It's just a matter of who gives an opening first and then boom 15+ hit combo. It's a boring chess match imo.

It is all about waiting for they opponent to slip up then punish like crazy, however I find it far from boring, specially the top players are a real treat to watch.

It may be fun to watch people do that in competitions but I think it totally ruins the normal competitive matches online. People aren't fighting they're just waiting for an opening to press a string of buttons. It's garbage.
Though doing a string of well timed button inputs for King in Tekken is not only difficult to pull off, but very impressive.

I think that's different. I'm not up on the current controls and such but it used to be that King combos were all counterable(more so than 100 hit uber combs) and his other moves left him at a disadvantage if he didn't close the distance and throw. So to me his multipart combos were good, they were balanced.
I think every fighting game should have a combo breaker.

I agree. Every fighting game needs a way to break those garbage combos. But then people would cry because they can't do any 100 hit combos with big flashy animations.

Guilty Gear both has some of the longest, flashiest combos and it has a way to break every single combo. You just have to burst right as the opponent connects.

@DB a good way to break the trend would be having long combos that do little damage. I doubt people would like that though....

I'd like more fighting games to be like early SNK fighters, like the first Art of Fighting, you can't do particularly long combos but, you do a pretty large chunk of damage for just regular attacks. I prefer that kind of pacing, the slow, deliberate movements, as opposed to high speed, infinite hit combos where button mashing makes for an easy win.

They need to make another good Bushido Blade game. If you missed your counter/block in that game you could die from one good hit. Matches were usually quick and brutal and it was awesome.

Didn't they continue the series under a different name? I think it was called Kengo or something, and if I remember correctly, they changed it up way too much for it to be any fun.
But yeah, we need more good Bushido Blade.

I agree, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom had Mega Crash, which would
automatically break you from a combo by killing two supers and all
of your recoverable health.

They've dona that before, Dante and Metal Knight were designed that
way and they still turned out to be various dangerous.

You mean Meta Knight SJB? Reason I ask is I keep on thinking of the Steel Witch in LA1.
