I watched Bucket List last night. Kind of a cheesy movie but that is what it said the point of life is. Sounded good to me.

I don't think we should encourage more people having babies like it's some super important mission. We have enough people ruining the world as it is.

In all honesty, I don't think there must be an all encompassing meaning of life.
For some, it may be to be happy; for others, it may be to serve the community.
It varies from person to person.

Biologically speaking, all life has one simple goal: Reproduce.
Plants, their entire goal is to spread seeds, animals it is to produce healthy offspring. Why? It just is the natural function of all living things.
But, humans have decided that there is more to life than an empty series of biological processes. So, most of us need something more than just the simple goal of any living being.

To be honest, to me, life has a pretty damn simple goal: go to bed at night, and wake up the next morning. That is, my goal is to not die in my sleep, and not die young at all.

He asked for the meaning of life, not his life or even human life. The most important objective to any living organism is to pass on it's genetic code.

I just like to think humans have gone beyond just basic procreation. It's like how survival of the fittest doesn't apply to us like it does other animals.

As for the meaning of it? Maybe there isn't one. Life isn't always fair.

Nature's laws are irrefutable. You must consume. You must die. You fail as a species if you do not propagate.

The goal of individual genes is to propagate. Organisms like humans just appear to be trying to propagate but are not.

For example, the point of sex on first glance is to reproduce but you can be fully aware that you or your partner is using birth control and still want to have sex.

The point of love at first glance is to pick a partner that would be ideal to produce, raise and provide for great offspring but you can be fully aware that your mate is not capable of reproducing and still love them.

Evolution created mechanisms that favor reproduction but we are not slaves to that end goal, only to the desires. And those desires are capable of misfiring as in the examples above.

In simple terms I would say the point of human life is first to satisfy basic needs (water, food, shelter, companionship, safety) and then to find fulfillment. We often miss out on that out of laziness, poor habits, fear of rejection and fear of failure.

There are always going to be exceptions to the rule. It is said the first Buddah meditated for six years eating nothing but a few grains of rice a week to the point where he was as close to death as possible.

The meaning of all life (human, animal, plant, fungal, bacterial, and viral), any and all species is to propogate. A species fails if it does not propogate.

I personally believe that it is our mission, and that we were programmed to:

1. Accumulate knowledge to maximum capacity, at which point we will have to physically evolve larger brains.
2. Explore the Universe in search of further knowledge.

I can't think of anything else we could be for.
What is the ultimate purpose of this accumulation of knowledge?
I think only future generations will be able to comprehend it and put it into practice.

But clearly we're being held in place technologically and in an evolutionary sense as well; there are 'powers that be' whose intention is to keep us on Earth, under their strict control.
Forever.

We must decide whether this is a satisfactory end to the Human Journey or not.
Personally I think serving Corporations and Banks forever is beneath us and that we are destined for much more as a species.

I have to agree with the answers from Kong and Tenser, but also adding that life forms attempt only to keep the life code going in general. Keeping the life code going is a process that occurs through both the creation and elimination of other carriers either directly or indirectly, conciously or subconciously, however, that does not mean that either one of these applies at any given time.

I would define this life code as a simple pattern that sustains it's origin and reproduces itself in other converted materials. It is a pattern that I find everything from single celled organisms to complicated creatures to abide by.
