The guy in the video acts like this is a new thing. I've felt this way since the early days of Wii.

It is not a new thing but people are much more informed this console cycle than any other.

People have known about it for years and years, since the late 80's. This is more just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Dudebro

But what was the straw? I don't get why it's suddenly so noticeable.

I know but I just don't get why now. Doesn't matter as long as people do start caring.

Slime Slayer

The reason why now is because, although we've been missing out on great games since the begging, there have always been great games that we did get. Now in this case we arnt getting anything, makes it a hell of a lot more obvious.

Just got my Wii set up. I am playing (feeling my way through) the Japanese Version of Xenoblade. It is worth it folks. I will be buying the EU version. The environments and battle system are awesome.

Obtain these games by any means necessary!

It is because most consumers aren't all that smart.
I've noticed Nintendo's shift towards hyper-casual since the earliest days of the DS, with games like Brain Age and Nintendogs.

Nintendo has just been moving in the wrong direction. Sure, there are good and great games from time to time, but there's more Wii Sports, Cooking Mama and stuff like that then there used to be.

No, it's this:

With a voice like that he should really go into broadcasting.

So after watching his video I'm starting to think xenophobia is the motivating factor behind what Nintendo is doing. Is there any other reason?

Kugyince
07-12-2011, 04:50 PM
Can't be. They were ported to Europe.

I think NoA just doesn't care about any title that doesn't have a 5 million unit potential.

Slime Slayer
07-12-2011, 04:59 PM
I'd tend to agree, even though he cited those example of the game selling more in N.A. the numbers were still small.

Dudebro

If everything in that video is true then it doesn't seem to make sense from a business standpoint. Even if it costs extra to convert and ship it here the sales speak for themselves. This makes me think it's some irrational or mean spirited reason.

Slime Slayer
07-12-2011, 05:24 PM
Well, it really boils to how much it costs to put a game out in N.A., and at how many units sold do they break even. I have no clue for the record.

Dudebro
07-12-2011, 06:41 PM
Well if it's just about money then I guess that's more evidence that Nintendo doesn't really care about it's customers as much as most Nintendo fans like to claim. They're just as soulless and greedy as all the rest, maybe more.

Yeah, I can see that.

But, if the game has already been translated to English for Europe, the cost to also sell it in America is negligible, especially considering the tendency of said games to sell better here than in Japan.

I agree with this. Nintendo is just a corporation, just the same as Microsoft and Sony.

No, it's not about losing money. NoA is only after the highest profit titles it seems.

Down with Reggie.

Highest profit == no money lost.
Therefore, it is about not losing money, but extended from not losing money, to gaining as much as possible with the lowest initial investment possibe.

Bolded part just reiterates what I said.

Anyways, NoA can make money without solely targeting the casual crowd. It's not about making a profit, it's about appeasing the investors which is done by accomplishing the exact thing you just reiterated.

Demon-Mask
07-30-2011, 07:22 PM
I reiterated it because it is a pretty damn big point.
If you make the highest profit, than you've obviously lost no money.
If you've lost no money, and instead gained a decent chunk, the investors are happy.
The investors are happy, they continue to invest.
The investors continue to invest, you can keep on working in the green {financially speaking}.
You continue to release the games that tend to be cheapest to localize and that sell the most.
These games sell the most, and the investors are happy.

It's the circle of business. It is how a successful business must operate.

Bump.

Well, figured this would be the place to post that I picked up my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles today... Got the limited edition box with a red CCP - I have all colours of that one :P

I'm liking the game so far, but so far isn't very far yet - only just left the first town (known as Colony 9). Looks promising though!

Just Finished Xenoblade Chronicles. I personally believe that Nintendo of America is committing a atrocity by not letting this game be released in North America.

My first run through of the game completing over 300 side quests took 160 hours.
The game is amazing, All fans of the JRPG are missing out. This is a killer app.

I have a review of the game on youtube.

That game looks pretty cool. I love the giant enemies, hate the giant sworded main protagonist. Looks like a Wii game I'd play though.

That game looks like something I might have to pick up when it comes to the US,
the enemies look really well done, and the combat system looks very good too.
