Alton Brown calls an end to 'Good Eats' - chicagotribune.com (http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/stew/chi-alton-brown-calls-an-end-to-good-eats-20110509,0,3396032.story)

Alton Brown announced that Good Eats is no more. Shockwaves are already spreading across the internet. People who have relied on his show to not starve are now left wondering where their next meal will come from.

But at least he'll still be on other Food Network shows.

This is a joke right? And not some situation where the show supplied soup kitchens?

Alton Brown is highly over-rated, in my opinion. I hardly ever watched Good Eats, and I could do with out him on The Next Iron Chef. Michael Symon needs more shows and the Challenge shows are more to my liking.

What's "Good Eats"?

And before you ask me a question,
My Google is broken for an inexplicable reason.

Anyone who doesn't know who he is or what the show is google it, or you could just read the damn article. Yes steven I was kidding about people going hungry.

So far you guys are really letting me down with the replies.

You sure gave me a scare with this thread title!
Now that I see it's just about some cooking show I'm sorely disappointed in you, DB.
Thread titles like that conjure up some ugly imagery in my head, what with the World situation and all.

I agree when I first saw this thread I panicked thinking that Retro was going offline or being taken away which would both suck royal

It's a perfectly tame picture, our innuendo makes it seem naughty. But either way no one reported it when it got posted in the debate section so it should be fine here.

@WG- that's obviously a Canadian royal wedding.

Is that an offical cancellation? I haven't seen new episodes in quite a while. I did love that show. Too bad he looks like a cancer patient now.

My dad will probably be bummed. I don't like cooking shows, but Good Eats was one of the better ones.

Marcel's Quantum Kitchen is actually pretty cool. Half the stuff when I see it on I had no idea that could happen.

Apparently it comes straight from the man himself. Can't blame him really, the show has been around since like 99. I bet in a year or so he'll have his own new show.

Btw for anyone too lazy to do a quick google search, Alton Brown is an award winning cooking show host. He's mainly credited with making things easy to understand and accomplish.

There was an R.U. user that used too look like him (at least someone suggested) it might have been Ragtag.

I also was expecting some bad news when I opened this thread, don't do that to us DB!

Sad to hear :( Alton was pretty amazing. I loved the show. He'll still be on the Food Network's other shows though, which is good. Hopefully they keep playing re-runs of it :p

I've always liked Alton Brown. I am not surprised to see Good Eats cancelled because it's been on for such a long time, however it was a good show. I cook some of the best eggs around thanks to him. (low and slow is the secret).

For those of you who don't know him, he kind of comes across as a geeky scientist, but he's actually pretty clever and witty. I'd buy him a beer for sure. 8)

@steven- I could be wrong but thought Tenser said he liked him, or his wife did. Either way I just like him because he's amusing. My wife would probably marry him if he was younger and she didn't meet me first.

@ChrisP- Yeah they're definitely gonna keep running old episodes. That's one show food network can milk for years and years because of the sheer volume of content he made.

@Tanc- Funny you mention the geeky scientist thing. He's been compared to Mr Wizard with his style and I totally see it.

That's good to know :) I remember one summer, I think there was a marathon on TV and I watched like 8 straight hours of Good Eats XD

Oh you mean Ragtag looks like Alton Brown. I guess I can kinda see it, maybe like a bastard love child or something.

Sometimes I enjoyed Good Eats, other times I didn't. Pretty neutral on it, and the fact that it is ending.
