I just saw this on my local news and thought I should post it to share. A school here in Hawaii just held a online graduation for it students.

No caps and gowns needed for first-ever virtual graduation at UH - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL Home (http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/14591601/no-caps-and-gowns-needed-for-virtual-graduation-at-uh)

I think it would have been cool to have a online and real graduation myself. What about the rest of you.

I dunno. Online schools just seem hard to take seriously. I don't know much about how it works but anything online or from home just seems like it'd be too easy to cheat.

Oh well that's even weirder. After reading the link it says they held a ceremony in the game Second Life. As cool as the idea is I find it to be a little dorky and I doubt all the students were into it. It also seems to take away the social aspect of the ceremony. A virtual avatar is not the same as seeing the person walk down the aisle in person.

I think that a virtual graduation is pretty lame. Isn't that basically just "The Sims"? If you want your family from long distances to watch you graduate, I think a video stream of the event would be better. I doubt granny is really going to believe that is you accepting your diploma as a green skinned, level 47 beastmaster.

I am glad that the option was given to those who wanted to actually walk to do so.

Also worth noting is how easy it would be to ruin an online graduation. Second Life has already been raided by online groups like anon and they love to add pictures of genitals and other ridiculous things to the game. If this became popular they'd have to segregate it and make it invite only.

That would have been hilarious . Could you imagine your online for your graduation and they call your name your avatar step's up to get there diploma thinking to yourself "This will be great grandma is watching and can see me get my diploma" and as soon as your avatar gets it in their hand a picture of genitals appears all over the screen

Yeah if I remember right the invasion I heard about they used some script to spam large immovable boxes on top of people. I'm not sure where the genitals come into the scene but I do remember it being part of the lols.

I'm not a fan of the idea of hosting a graduation online.
