This is awful.

Over 250 killed as tornadoes ravage US south - Yahoo! News (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/death-toll-mounts-storms-rip-central-us-030655026.html)

I sincerely hope that none of our members have been affected by this.

I survived a tiny one in Winfield, B.C. when I was camping as a kid, and believe me, it's terrifying to see the aftermath of even one so small.
It looked like a giant dark grey wall as tall as the sky itself heading quickly towards us, and we ran for shelter in someone's trailer.

The instant we were inside, a very large branch broke off the tree right beside the trailer and totally crushed someone's motorcycle, and the wind picked up everything not extremely heavy or nailed down and threw it everywhere.
Lightning struck a power pole across the road from us, and even that seemed too close for comfort.

In short, I believe tornadoes are best observed online.

We even have a tornado watch here in New York and we barely ever get any o.o

I kind of want to see a tornado in person too. It's scary, but intriguing at the same time...For now, the internet will suffice :p

The earth seems to be reminding us more and more these days that we really have no control.

I feel so bad for those people. I couldn't imagine losing everything including loved ones.

Wasn't it 2012 when the world was supposed to end? Or something?

No way, I believe what George Carlin said about the World being just fine after we're gone.
Not that I want us to disappear; I would rather see a Star Trek - like future for Humanity where we explore the Universe and live up to our true potential.

We're living in dangerous times to be certain, but I don't personally believe in the 2012 'end of the World' scenario.
These extreme weather patterns are being caused primarily by the sun, which has always been the main driver of weather on Earth.

Don't forget the normal state of the planet is actually quite severe, and we're living in between ice ages ... perhaps the planet is getting ready to return to that state?
I hope not.
There sure is a lot of energy in the atmosphere right now.

It'd be nice if there was some religious rapture and it only effected the religious people. Let them go off on some magical mystery tour of the universe and leave the rest of us alone. I could live with that.

Never been in a tornado, but every summer at least twice the warning sirens will go off(meaning a funnel cloud has been spotted or the thunderstorm is rotating) and down into the basement I have to go.

I once had a close call here, but every time after that, the tornadoes happen around us, but they never come in the town.

A friend of mine works at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa Al. I did hear from him last night and he is doing well. There are still ~ 50 students at the college that are missing and unaccounted for.

F5?
I hope they're found soon.

Everyone: don't get curious about these things and start thinking you would like to see one in real life, even a small one could be deadly.
