If anybody has some ideas for new features or improvements for the site please post them here. No new system requests please. I know you all want SNES. It is not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

One thing I am curious about. I currently am testing, creating images, descriptions and instructions for games as I add them. That means that new games have lots of details and few bugs but I only have time to add about 30 or so a month. Do you like it that way or would you prefer that as any games as possible were added right away even if they did not have descriptions and had not been tested for bugs first?

I think the games should be tested first before they are added. It would save a lot of trouble later. I'm sure I'm not alone when there is a game I've wanted to play has been added to the site only to see it doesn't work.

I would like as an added feature the ability to make public my save states/movies. It was something we had before and I liked it very much.

I agree. It could also be a bad first impression to newcomers if the first game they play is one of the games that hasn't been tested and doesn't work.

For an added feature, could you bring back the mode that allowed you to challenge other users in the arcade?

I don't mind not having SNES, but you should add light-gun support for Genesis.

Challenges and shared save states will probably be brought back soon. Any suggestions on how they should function? Challenges did not seem to go perfectly smooth before. Should all save states be available for others to load or would you want an option to make your save states public. No one would be able to alter your save state but they would be able to load them.

For the save states, I think it should be as it was before. The member selects whether or not the image is public or not. So basically I'm saying the default setting should be private.

For the challenges, I think a button on the game that says something to the effect of "Challenge a friend". Then a screen comes up with a space to put in the name. Then it is set up similar to the tournament mode.

well i for one would like the option of a public save state that would be cool

i dont know how big the server is for the sight but maybe have a vote feature on them so people can vote for the best and after a period of time the older less voted once get deleted to save space cause im sure with 100+ people putting save states on mario and sonic would get pritty cramped.. (just a idea)

also i would like to see when you submit a score for a game you send out a auto notifier saying your score was approved for XXX game but you also sent a autonotifier saying your score was deleted and explination why it useually happens but i have no idea what game your talking about so what i would also like to see is the name of the game in the deleted score so i can replay it and get a better screen shot

A reason for a deleted score would be good. It would cause for less disagreements and headaches later.

For save states - both public and otherwise - I have thought of deleting any save state that has not been played in the past year. Maybe something similar with screen shots. Or maybe just if a user has not logged in once in the past year then I would delete their files.

I also planed on having a rating system for the public save states and screen shots but the ratings would be more for just finding a good save and not for determining which saves are deleted.

The server can hold a couple years worth of saves with no problem but eventually they will have to be deleted to make room for new files.

And I want to have a reason sent with the PM telling you why it was deleted. The most common reason is people submit one score twice in SMS, Genesis, ColecoVision, and TG-16 games. I will disable the ability to do that eventually. The next most common reason is the score not being on the screen which is usually done by new users.

BTW - I am working on all new features as one whole. Meaning all new features will be released at once - not one at a time.

I like sabby's idea about having a button on each game, and could could also have a button on everyone's profile saying "Challenge (user) to the arcade" like there was before.

umm.. also i was thinking about tie scores and just the 3 champs but maybe if you tie someones score you all get a gold medal instead of pushing the privious champs score to silver but on the acctual game selection screen it just shows the last persone to get gold silver bronze instead of a gold gold gold (just a idea)

Currently the game of the week is randomly selected. What do you think of a button next to each game (something like the current "add to favorites" button) that says something like "nominate for next game of the week". well i would like to two things one i got the idea from your least comment just above this one why dont we have a newest games added or latest games added some where maybe under the stats menu or on the homepage and give a small list of the date and time and title of the latest game added so people can try it out..


and two i would also like a wider number search on the game page selection like for example the nes games go from
page 1 to page 36
so if i wanted to skip to page 15 i would have to click page 3... wait load time... page 5... wait load time... page 7... ect ect ect maybe we could get a wider number jump page 1,2,3,10,15,30,36 or something or a goto page something searh

and also as a update to my trophies idea i think you said you liked where if you tie for gold then you all get the medal but on the game selection page it only shows the person last to get it

as a potential bug we would have to watch out for is make sure that people can not get multiple gold medals more than once for example they cant play the same game over and over and over and get 3 or 4 gold medals on the same game they only get 1 gold per game and also i dont know how you would want to work the silver and bronze but i think that if you tie for champ the next person below you that does not have a tie should move to silver but only 1 person can hold silver and 1 person can hold bronze unless you tie for that exact score then you both hold silver untill thier is a undisputed second place and third =)

If you hit the three dots on the page number (1 2 3 ... 36), it expands to show all the page numbers.

Click "Open System Menu" at top of the page. Then in drop down box select "List games by - " "Recently Added"

Also the "underdog" game listed at the top of the game menu is normally a newer game. I will be changing that box. Not sure exactly to what but topdog will definitely be removed. Alex Kidd does not deserve to be listed at the top of nearly every page of the site for ever.

If your score is close to the highest score for a game then you will get more points than if you are no where close to first. Similar to a test that is graded on a curve.

Like Sabby said clicking the dots shows all page #s. I like it like that but it would be good if we could draw more attention to that so everyone knows. I will try to find a way to make it more obvious.

i had a good idea except i think someone else can stretch it farther:

i was thinking of like an awards thing like the "RETROS" where we wouldnt hold it once a year but like once a month or something. we would pm votes for topics like:

favorite ru game-and we would cut it down to like top ten games on site as nominees

most helpful user-use like top ten most applauded

user you would most likely want to meet

someone can probably think of more and then i was thinking maybe some funny awards like:

person your most afraid of-tenser scares me

you know someone could help me on these.

and people could design trophies that are displayed when you post like champion of: but instead say:sabby- 12 award wins-15 nominees

and a quick thought-you should add sonic the hedgehog to the front page:)

Yeah, maybe have a limit to only being able to do it 5 or 10 times.
If you keep going the old scores would be deleted.

you would not have to put a limit on it like that just you best score get counted towards your ru score so if you dont beat your own score you dont get any points but lets say you already have second place and are getting +900 RU score points then you play again and beat the current high score you would get +100 for a total of 1000 for that game and you can never get more then that

what i would worrie about is could you loose some of your RU score for people beating you if so the easyest thing to do would be instead of grading on a curve for all those games you can get ties on just have it the top ten get points starting at 1000 ending at 100 so if you get in the top ten you get +score but goes back to beating your own score i think it should only use your best score so lets say i get a score that puts me in 5th place
i get +500
then if i get in 2end place i would loose the 500 then gain +900 and the person in 11th place would move to 10th because my 5th place would be over writen

I'm a little worried about losing the Trophys. How is the score ranking gonna look? I personally like seeing the top ten scores(or more) to get an idea of how people are doing at the game. Please explain more. Oh and when is this update?

There have been some bugs reported in other threads recently. Please continue to post them but I will address them when this next update is made instead of doing them one at a time as soon as they are reported.

Only your best score in a game will count towards your total score. If you have second, fourth and fifth place, only the best score, second place, will count.

If Sabby scores 1,000 points in a game and I score 500 points. Then Sabby gets first place and I get second place. Sabby gets 100 points added to his total score. I get 50 (500/1000*100) points. If I later score 1,500 points in that same game then I would have first and third place and Sabby would have second. Only my highest score would count so my third place would not matter. Our previous points would be subtracted from our total score putting us back at zero for this game and I would get 100 points for being first and Sabby would get 67 (1,000/1,500*100) points. Since I had the highest score, I would get the badge added to my name. If more than one person tied for first place then they all would get the badge and the 100 points. The major thing that is changing is the quality of a score will be worth more in the stats than the quantity of high scores. Also a different section of the stats would still list who has the most total high scores as it does now.

Next to your username in the forum there has a list of all the games that you are champ of. That will remain the same. In your profile and on the game menu there is a list of first second and third place scores. The second and third place will be removed. The first place will remain.


Spell checkers slow servers down a lot. One will not be added. Firefox has a built in spellchecker and there is a plug in for IE that gives it a spell checker. Also you can search Google for individual words to see if you spelled them right or you can write your post in gMail, spell check it there and then copy it to here.

I am aiming for the beginning of June for the update to be finished.

well i may have caused this one because i did not like the fact that if you tie someones score then you loose the champ when really they are not better than you they just beat you that day take for example hangaroo many people tied for champ does that mean the ones below should not get credit for doing the best the game has to offer i dont think so ...

I liked being able to comment on your score as soon as you submitted it. Would it be possible to make a page that you are sent to where you can see the list of high scores and then make a comment that will be added when the score is approved?

Today I changed the Game Trophies that are next to each post. They used to be small images of the game titles that are used on the menu. Now they are gold trophies.

I changed it because:

The images were not actually small but just regular sized images that were displayed as small images meaning they were kind of big in file size.
There were so many of them being loaded ever time a forum page loaded. That wasn't much of a problem for the server but it was annoying to me as a user. (I have disabled caching on my computer so it is more annoying to me than to most and my connection if broadband but still not very fast.)
Some of the games did not have images and so they were shown as a missing image.
They were too small to read and so not very helpful.


I am not attached to the current method but I don't want to go back to the previous method either. So if you a suggestion on how to improve it I will listen and maybe do it.

@TNT, I think I am going to switch to a youtube style comment system.

Well kong, i think you should ditch the trophies on the side. but leave Badges there, and maybe put a separate page for your trophies you won. just a suggestion but if you remove it and just put it in a page where its not on every page maybe it can stop lag?

This sounds like the only fair way to do it. Case by case basis. It's kinda pointless if negative rep can be removed with points or over time. Takes away the impact it should have. I mean if everyone has over 100 positive rep and 0 negative then it cheapens the point of rep at all, in my opinion.

I guess so. I am not really concerned with how high my rep gets, but more or less, I don't want to end up getting a negative rep. I suppose the best way to handle it would be to take the situation to a mod. Just didn't figure we needed to bother them with it if their was a different way to handle it.

he included a img of the controller with the keyboard keys layed over it... it would be cool if this could be done on the new site because i never owned a genesis and i never know which button is the c key or a key but here is a picture of what he did...

Could you add score submission to Power Rangers: Fighting Edition (http://www.retrouprising.com/arcade.php?act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=2462)? Trial Mode keeps track of the number of wins, which can count as a score (I know I've seen other games work like that here).
