Caravan Shootout

[Seahawk]

In the late 80's and early 90's several video games held competitions called "Summer Carnival". In these events gamers would challenge each other at shoot-em-ups for prizes and fame. The games focused on special time attack modes lasting only 2 or 5 minutes long, and the objective was to get the highest score possible. Some games were even developed with only the time attack modes.

Those days are long over, but the challenge lives on.

CARAVAN SHOOTOUT CONTEST
This is an individual contest. Teams are not involved.

The objective is to play the followings on their score attack modes, and to score big:

Final Soldier Special Version (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/1372/) - 5 Minutes
Soldier Blade (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/3664/) - 5 Minutes
Blade Buster (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/10743/) - 5 Minutes
Summer Carnival '92 - Recca (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/3908/)- 2 Minutes

The winner is the one whose total combined score on all four games is the highest.

To access the score attack mode:
Final Soldier: Press the SELECT button (spacebar by default) to access the 5 minute challenge.

Soldier Blade: At the title screen press SELECT (spacebar by default) and select the challenge mode. On the next menu press SELECT again to choose 5 minute mode.

Blade Buster: At the title screen press SELECT (spacebar by default) to select 5 minute mode.

Recca: Choose score attack at the title screen. The game time is two minutes.


For easy score tracking, PLEASE POST YOUR SCORES IN THIS THREAD.

The contest starts NOW, and ends on midnight on May 16, 2011.

The Prize:
Winner can get a badge or a random game mailed to them from my duplicate carts box.

Yes, that would be excellent, that way I can take score tallies without flipping through many pages of high scores.

Start fresh. You can submit as many scores for each game as you want until the contest is over. Only the highest one for each game will count.

Some tips:
- You can adjust your speed freely in all games by pressing whatever button corresponds to select (Spacebar by deafult)

- In Blade Buster, Soldier Blade, and Final Solider, there are secret tiles worth big points!

- Defeating some midboss enemies in special ways gets you a big bonus. For example, in Soldier Blade, on two occassions there are two identical pods on the water, if you destroy them at roughly the same times you get a 50,000 bonus!


Remember that you can submit scores at any time! There are no restrictions on how many scores you submit, only the highest score will count though. The contest ends on May 16!

Where does it freeze? I know the main game has issues, but I've done many runs on the 5 minute mode and I've never had a problem.

That's the an issue with the main game. There are no problems with the challenge mode.

The last weeks have been complicated for me, some tests in college (and my work...) prevented me from participating more. This explains my hurry to do my best early on! Because I thought I couldn't play enough to get reasonable scores. But I enjoyed myself. I simply love Caravan games.
