According to multiple reports today, Nintendo will reveal a new console at E3 this coming June.
Game Informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/14/new-nintendo-console-at-e3.aspx) first reported that the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions." Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions.
Nintendo is reportedly showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a late 2012 launch.
Additional sources tell IGN that Nintendo will release a pre-announcement this month with a full reveal expected at E3 and that the console will be backwards compatible with current Wii software.

Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market.
This seems to be contrary to everything I've heard about Nintendos plans. I wonder if they're actually gonna have multiplayer this time.

Unless you have a small T.V/environment I don't think it would be that bad. I do like how the PS3 treats itself like a computer though.

It would also be nice to see a Nintendo console not so focused on delivering a family friendly gaming experience.

It's a viable concept but I don't think the US has the online infrastructure in place to handle 720p video going to millions of gamers. That's for another thread though...
Maybe you're right or maybe this is the kick in the pants we need to get that infrastructure.
Netflix streams in 720p to millions of users with no lag right? Granted Nintentendo users would spend more time than netflix users and ISPs would hate it.
Kansas City could do it for sure.
---------- Post added at 10:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 PM ----------
Oh, and to clarify my prediction. Nintendo said they would not release a new system just to upgrade graphics to match the competitors. They said they would only make a new system if they had something new, different and ground breaking. So my prediction was for farther in the future when US is fiber optic.
Japan and Korea's Internet could handle it right now.

The bandwidth requirements for video gaming would be greater than that of Netflix.
I don't know what resolutions Netflix streams at. I used 720p as an average for Xbox360 & PS3 owners. They also go to 1080p, and also you forget about 3D broadcasts, where two images would need to be sent at once. Gaming also goes at 60fps, movies are streamed at 24 or 30 frames per second.
There is also traffic going both ways. Inputs for the game need to be constantly sent with no lag or break in communications. Add onto that online play (with voice chat), and other things (analog motion control inputs). Upload speeds are much slower than download speeds. Maybe I'm ignorant but that seems like too much to handle all on the cloud far away, some processing has to be done locally, yet that would defeat the purpose.

I don't know. The Wii is completely out of steam at this point so maybe they have no choice.

Of course they could, but I doubt they will spend millions on research and development to release a console for one region, and those countries are moving towards portable electronics anyways. The nations are also small and physically compact whereas the USA is geographically huge.

I hope they do try to go for their lost fans. I know it's easy to lump anti wii people into a one group of mouth breathing morons but myself and many other Nintendo fans felt left out with the Wii. Some nostalgic games are really good but that's about it for us. They don't need to change their focus but just do what they used to do, appeal to everyone, not just E for everyone.
infrastructure?
American Internet infrastructure is primarily cable. It should be fiber optic or radio waves.
Netflix does offer 1080p streaming for PS3 users. 720 for everyone else.
I don't think 3D would be in the first batch.
The increased FPS does make it take 2-3 times as much bandwidth as Netflix. I didn't think of that.
There is also traffic going both ways.Outgoing would be minimal.
Onlive.com is already doing it in America and it is working fine although they only have a small fraction of the customers that Nintendo would bring.
I don't know. The Wii is completely out of steam at this point so maybe they have no choice.Yeah, if my prediction is wrong then that's my excuse. I was thinking around 2015.
The nations are also small and physically compact whereas the USA is geographically huge.Japan, Korea, Finland, Sweden, France have the fastest Internets in the world by far. Those countries make up 1/3 of video game sales. I know that Nintendo wouldn't make a console that over 2/3 of their customers couldn't use but Fiber Optics is going to eventually take off world wide in just a few years.
There's a lot of rumors flying around now like HD screens in the controllers and what-not.That sounds stupid. What's the point? I could see it being good for something like a 2 player football game where you need to secretly select your play but other than that I don't see when you would use it.

This should have been done with the Wii and the DS.
Does anyone remember Zelda: Four Swords Adventures for the Gamecube? That was a game which used a link cable that connected to the Game Boy Advance, allowing the game to exist on both the TV screen and the GBA display. For example if you went into a building or down stairs in a dungeon, your character would move from the TV screen to the GBA screen; the game area existed on both systems in real time. I thought this is one of the most creative uses of the system link technology ever. If you managed to have four people playing at once it is one of the greatest gaming experiences you can ever hope for.
The only problem was finding three other people who had that cable, as it was really hard to find. And they were often low quality and defectice.
I was really hoping that Nintendo would do a followup on the Wii utilizing the DS- no more cables, and a dual screen display! Then again, there could have just been a Four Swords Adventures game for DS. Either way it would have been cool. But alas it is not meant to be.......

Upgrading the hardware to slightly higher than PS3 and 360 and adding a touchscreen to the controller sound like very weak reasons for a new system.
Anyone that wants a console on the hardware level of 360 and PS3 already has one. If Wii2 is only slightly higher then most will probably just wait for PS4 or 361, which will probably be much higher, instead of buying a Wii2. Wii is too late to the game to be trying to steal the hard core gaming market with just an improved graphics card.
A touch screen in the controller seems highly gimmicky. I can not imagine this being a system seller.
Unless their "huge surprise" that they are revealing at E3 is amazing then I think this is a big mistake. Nintendo isn't known for big mistakes though so maybe the surprise is huge!

I don't know? I think one of the main reasons I passed up the Wii in the first place was because of the sub-par video output when the TV's on the morket today are capable of outputting such high resolutions. The resolution of the Wii felt like I was playing my N64 all over again on a 27" CRT television. I think if they plan on releasing a system that is capable of todays video & audio output standards then I might consider giving Nintendo a second look again.
Do you already have a PS3 or 360?
It just seems to me, Wii2 isn't bringing much new to the table. People that want its features already have something that is really close.

But seriously, I think that touch screens in the controllers would work really well, particularly if the controls worked more like they do in Super Scribblenauts - both sets of buttons do the same thing to leave one hand free for the touch screen.
But I doubt I'd get this at launch, even if the 'huge surprise' knocks me for 6!

I think I may have misread, and it is that the Wii 2 will have 3d compatability, not 3ds. As I was looking for where I read it to post the link, I found out that the Gamecube has 3d capabilities, they decided not to persue it because 3d tv's were rare, but the tech is in there. Neat.

I didn't mean to mock you, I meant to mention that I didn't need to hear that little trivia fact again, as I know it already. I find it an interesting little tidbit, but I've not played the game ether, so I can't judge the merits of that instance of dual analog. I'm just saying that, for such an "innovative" company, Nintendo is a bit late to the game on the relatively basic feature of dual analog. I guess having poorly implemented motion controls is a bit more important than getting down dual analog control, or having a controller that looks like it should be a controller. Three pronged controller, with analog stick in the middle. The oddity that served as the Gamecube controller {seriously, that D-pad was in a rather unnatural place, and the c-stick wasn't all that nice, oh, and the fact that the A button was gigantic, the b-button was tiny, and the x and y buttons were shaped like little kidney beans}. And how about two remotes strung together by a cord. One is small, like the kind you use to advance a slide-show, with an analog stick. The other, looks like a television remote, except with a D-pad and a couple of buttons on it. The main function of these remotes? Waggling them pathetically, trying not to make a fool of yourself.
Yeah, I like Nintendo and everything, but they need to learn to design controllers for those of us who have only two hands, hate motion-sensitive controls, and don't like controllers that lack symmetry.

Demon-Mask
04-17-2011, 05:26 PM
Lame, yes. True, yes. Sure, they gave us the controller design we all know and love, face buttons on the right, D-pad on the left. Then, they gave us shoulder buttons and a shape that isn't uncomfortable to hold. Next, they gave us analog control. After that, their design started to go backwards with the Gamecube's incomprehensibly stupid controller design, followed by the Wii's two remotes connected by a cord. Why is the analog stick on a whole different controller than the rest of it? So yeah, while they innovated controller design as we know it, they also spit all over that design and stopped being sensible.
Kugyince
04-17-2011, 05:32 PM
I think the D-pad was their idea too.

Nintendo created the first home console controller to have a plus sign d-pad like this
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/NES-controller.jpg
That was heavily based on the Nintendo Donkey Kong Game and Watch handheld.
Nintendo Game & Watch (http://www.axess.com/twilight/console/detail/gw.html)
Which I would say is the origin of the modern d-pad.
Milton Bradly's Cosmic Hunter is technically the first connected plus sign dpad.
Milton Bradley Microvision (http://www.handheldmuseum.com/MB/MVCosmicHunter.htm)
I think Intellivision should get some credit for the first console controller with a dpad.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/ba/Intellivision_controller.jpg/450px-Intellivision_controller.jpg
But the Nintendo Game and Watch one was a huge leap forward.

I know what innovations Nintendo has made with controllers, but I guess it is too much to ask for innovation and decent design. The Gamecube controller was terribly uncomfortable, and the face buttons were extremely awkward. The Gamecube controller was a piece of crap, and two-click shoulder buttons can't change that fact.
But two-click shoulder buttons aren't all that great, meaning that the "innovation" the Gamecube controller had was definitely not at all worth the poor design.
But, I figure that you guys are going to be impossible to sway toward my opinion that Nintendo is a bit behind in controller design at this point, so I retire from this argument.

I know that, but I am talking in a more modern sense.
Look, at the Gamecube controller, look at the PS2 controller, and look at the Xbox controller. Which one is unbelievably awkward? Which one looks like it was designed by a child to look vaguely futuristic? Which one has buttons that look like kidney beans, in a location where they feel out of place?
Now, it stands to reason that the controller that fits those, is the one that would be a bit behind.
Now, let me do this again.
Look at the PS3 controller, look at the Wii controller, and look at the Xbox360 controller. Which one looks like a television remote and a slideshow remote strung together? Which one only has one analog stick? Which one is focused not on button control, but waving it around like a kid who is pretending to be Harry Potter?
Now, it stands to reason the one that fits all of those, would be the one that feels a bit behind.
Here's a parting thought
Past != Present
Innovation != Good Design
Past Innovation != Good Design in the Present

They are behind in making controllers with a comfortable design, at least for the time being. Let's put it this way, I know that they aren't behind the times, so much as they are behind in actually designing controllers. Let's put it this way, the Gamecube and Wii controllers are both poorly designed and not pleasant to use in any way. They are behind in the actual design, not so much in terms of time.
But, I respect your opinion, and will honestly fold here. I phrased it poorly as "behind the times", when I simply meant behind, but not the times.
Oh, and contributing dual analog on a single controller counts as something the competition has contributed.

I also like the N64 DB, and my guess is the objection may center around the primitive graphics capability and probably the infamous 3 - handed controller.
{which I actually liked because of the trigger - like 'Z' button underneath - excellent for First Person Shooters like Duke Nukem or Perfect Dark; my only 'complaint' would be about the awkward 'C' buttons}
I agree with you when you said that the Gamecube controller was an improvement and is comfortable to use; I wish I could use it on my PS2.
I gave you a +1.

I probably said this already but, wasn't the Wii supposed to be a decade console?
{meaning it was meant to be around for at least a decade before new systems were introduced}
I'm pretty sure once the PS3 launched Tretton said they planned on the PS3 being around for 10+ years before it needed to be replaced.
Not sure about the 360 and Wii

reguarding controllers.. SNES was the best handsdown.
Wii got annoying, due to it sucking up batteries, N64 was poorly placed, liked the GCN one, and NES one was good too. Though, imo the PS3 controller's function which you can change it with a cord that comes with it and play wirelessly, liked that the best. Now combine that with a SNES controller and you got perfection.

I really liked the GC controller and I still use it as much as I can for Wii games. I don't think it's poorly designed.
To be honest, I couldn't adjust to it at all, ever. It was terribly uncomfortable for me to use. There are a variety of reasons I didn't like it, but it basically is the layout of the whole thing.
I don't get the hate for the N64. I know it's not the best Nintendo console and possibly the worst by comparison but it was still a fun system to own. We used to play lots of local multiplayer games and we had a blast. I think that was the first system that had a group of us stay up until dawn playing it(the wrestling games).
I liked the N64 okay, but I can only name a handful of N64 games I would still play today. I know there are probably others, but they either never interested me in the first place, or I never played them.
Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, WWF No Mercy, Banjo Kazooie, Quest 64.
Yep, that's it for me. The N64 is lacking games I particularly liked.

Rumor Nuggets
Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Activision, Rockstar/Take Two, Electronic Arts, Namco and Ubisoft all have development kits.
They each have at least one game in development for the Wii 2.
Expect games to be coming to this system that you would never expect on a Nintendo console.
Nintendo is kissing third party ****s with this console.
The new Nintendo controller sounds more ridiculous on paper. When you actually see the thing, it makes a lot more sense from a design standard.
Expect Nintendo to roll out the red carpet for third parties so their games don’t get overshadowed. Nintendo has been preaching to third parties that third parties won’t get screwed this time around, so if you’re expecting a ton of amazing first party games at launch…well…think again. Nintendo wants a launch that creates confidence in third parties again so expect very few first party games at launch similar to the 3DS.
Star Fox is coming. I can’t say when. Very good chance that it WONT be at E3. I am hearing Star Fox is coming for the new Nintendo system, but it is very early in development.
Nintendo solved every storage issue a third party could possibly have with the new console. I don’t know if it’s a harddrive or a different, cheaper way to store data.
Nintendo revamping their WiiWare and virtual console services. I don’t think it will be called WiiWare anymore.
Almost positive that we’ll be seeing Pikmin in some shape or form.
A first person shooter that people love will be ported to the 3DS. I can’t say what game, but it’s popular among FPS gamers.
Expect a crapload of 3DS love at this E3. The show will be wayyy more 3DS than Wii 2 (Project Cafe). 3DS stuff will be at least 60 percent of the E3 pre-show.
Don’t listen to anyone who says new Nintendo console will launch by end of 2011. They are idiots. This holiday season is all about the 3DS and Nintendo’s E3 show will focus on that.
Don’t expect many games to be shown at E3 for new Nintendo console, but expect all of the key features to be revealed.
Nintendo is thinking about launching Zelda: Skyward Sword around the same time as Wii 2 since Wii 2 is backwards compatible with Wii 1 games. They want to follow the same strategy when they launched Pokemon Black/White when 3DS was coming out.
I am 90 percent sure you will not see a Zelda: Skyward Sword port to the Wii 2. It will remain a Wii 1 game.
Nintendo approached Hideo Kojima about the new Nintendo console. Nintendo and Hideo Kojima have a good relationship with each other.
A Resident Evil game is in development for the new Nintendo system. I don’t know if Capcom is developing an RE spinoff or something part of the “main” Resident Evil series.
Retrostudios started working on a Wii 2 game. It is NOT Metroid. Retro is done with Metroid.

So it's safe to say that Nintendo realizes why they lost a good share of the (non casual, non Nintendo fanboy)gamers and is doing exactly the opposite of what they did with the Wii? I wonder if they can really bring them back or if this is a wasted effort. It will have to be really impressive to make people put aside their 360/PS3s, not just some token mature/online games.

yeah.. my fave controller is still teh Sega genesis one. I also loved hte Dream cast, and Game cube controllers. My only prob with the game cube is that games dont let you switch between D-pad and the Motion sticky thingy. (which is called something, I seem to be utterly forgetting right now..) But ten again I have always preferred D-pad over the sticks.
As for Wii 2.. I am getting really annoyed at how often and how fast new systems are being made.. I remember a time when you bought a game system, and that game system would release games for years before the next one came out, and even when the next one came out, you could still find the last system's games. ... -sigh- miss the good ole days.
Edit/ add on: Also as many of you may disagree with me but honestly? I'm glad to have a third party sorta mini game system. I like the fact the WII focuses on simple easy to play games that work for more people. Its about time the Casual gamers like me and my mom finally got our own system to focus on. Its made for Familly smple game play. if you want hardcore, get a ps3... like we did.

Really? The situation with the Wii is currently par for the course. It was released in late 2006, and it's successor will come out in 2012. I guarantee that it will not come out this year. That six year life span is typical. The main problem is that the Wii has zero third party support, and Nintendo's dev teams are not picking up the slack like they did with every system before.
This could be the secret feature that Nintendo is releasing at E3. That would be a feature seller.
Could be 3D

^ Highly doubtful. The big N isn't in the business of rumors. They are in the business of delivering products.
Time table wise, it makes sense. They released the 3DS, which they will use to carry their sales through the year. They will make an announcement about their next project at E3 because you gotta keep those share holders interested. If you were planning a demo or announcement for E3, right around now is when you would expect the rumors to start coming out.
Keep in mind, this is also not a single source reporting something. It is multiple sources getting reports from a bunch of places, the most telling of which are the 3rd parties. If they say they are developing games for a new Nintendo console, I would take that to the bank. Why would they fabricate imaginary projects for a console that doesn't exist?

- Utilize controllers with integrated touchscreens and be capable of streaming games to each controller, though given the power of the system, could also feasibly provide a virtualized console for each individual unit.

They need to capture the same variety and styles of games from the NES and SNES era's, if they can manage that then I'll be on board. I doubt this will happen though, most of those wouldnt even qualify as full games these days. Steel Diver is an excellent example of what they need more of, it reminds me of a SNES game. It seems way too many games these days are neverendind, or close to it.
- Revamped AMD's R700 GPU architecture (out performs PS3)360 too?

Being faster than your 6+ year old competition isn't that impressive. What are they going to do when the next ps and xbox come out?
- Stereoscopic 3DDoes that mean glasses? Disapointing. I really thought they might do Johny Lee style 3d.
- System to look like a modern SNESHa. Kinda cool. NES would have been cooler.
- Utilize controllers with integrated touchscreens I still don't get the benifit of this. Seems like it wold make the controller bulky and expensive and easy to break while adding a feature you would barely ever use.
- Nintendo is considering naming the console Stream.Interesting. Sounds like the cloud could still be the big secret.
I was hoping it wouldn't be named "Wii II"
DB is right, wii stream is a horrible combination.

The problem with consoles trying to over power each other is that there is a ceiling for this type of thing. Not to say that there is a limit to how powerful the machines can get, but there is only so much that a game can use. I think we are very close to that ceiling as it is.

The confirmation comes alongside gloomy results for the Japanese gaming giant, with the company reporting a decline in full year profit for the second year in a row. Profit fell by more than 66 per cent, with Nintendo recording 77.6 billion yen ($946.6 million) for the year ended March, 2011. Income also fell 29.3 percent to 1.01 trillion yen ($12 billion).
Declining Wii sales was one significant factor in the results, with global sales recording 15.2 million units in the financial year gone compared to 20.1 million units a year earlier. DS sales also dipped, with 17.52 million units sold in the last year--a fall of roughly 10 million units from the year prior. Nintendo also missed its target of 4 million 3DS units sold, hitting only 3.61 million units by the end of March.

Nintendo might be falling into a trap. They release a new system in a year, which may be more powerful than the PS3 and 360. If it does well, you can bet Sony and Microsoft will push up their new systems which in turn will be more powerful than Project Cafe. I think we're hitting a cap on graphical power. Would you really buy a system solely because it displays 1240p over 1080p?
PC gamers. Here's some random comments from game sites:
lol this is next gen? its based on a PC gpu (r700 radeon AKA 4700 series PC graphics card) hey Nintendo FYI ATI is on its 6990 series now with 7000 series coming this year this console is already outdated by PC's and it isnt even released yet, and by 2014 Nintendo will be facing heavy competition from MSFT and sony because surely they will have better tech..of course by 2014 PC's will also be better than all 3.. the way it always has been. the only people going to be "blown away" by this new console are people that dont know better, PC gamers have been playing in above HD resolutions for years Console gamers just now are making it to a full 1920x1080 lines of resolution. Pathetic. Is this a joke? Blurred low res graphics are unacceptable, the Wii cost $40 to produce and sold for $200, it was robbery. PCs have had more powerful hardware for 5 years. You cannot convey a realistic, powerful story without graphics to back it up and gameplay suffers as well. The Wii doesn't have a single game that truly immerses you in the game world like PCs have been doing for ages and consoles started to do in this generation. There is no excuse not to support HD resolutions and high res textures in this day and age. If I want crap graphics I'll play my SNES, otherwise I'll look to my PC. Don't talk about high costs when the Wii was really just a cash grab, the 360 and PS3 cost about the same yet have hardware that is so much more advanced than the Wii it's pathetic.Everything about consoles is "crippling." It holds back PC graphics ten fold. Current PC hardware is already ahead of what the PS4 and Xbox 3 will have. Current games hardly utilize what hardware is available. We need better optimization for games but with console sales being where the money is we will probably never see PC getting pushed the way it should. If only consoles didn't hold back game tech so we could get games that actually need this kind of power. We should be getting games each year that push the boundaries the way Crysis did. It really says something when a game coming up on four years old is still used to gauge a PC's performance. Nothing against Crysis itself, just that we should have newer and far better looking games to the point that Crysis wouldn't be on the list of best looking games anymore. Like how Crysis 2 looks worse than Crysis 1 does on max with a few of the enhancement mods on it. Games now a better optimized but the graphics quality hasn't gone up the way it should be.____________________________________________
It will boil down to the software available, not the hardware. Lack of software is what killed Sega, not it's hardware specs.Isn't that kind of what happened to Sega?
Sega's downfall was caused more by their decisions regarding hardware than anything. That and Sega Japan completely losing their sanity and not letting Sega America do their job.
And another unofficial picture.

Although I don't expect another system from Microsoft at all, the above woud be if they do stay in the game.
Nothing is definite obviously but MS has made many statements about not making a new console, yet. They just released the Kinect so I'm sure they wanna pump that for all it's worth before moving on. Not once have the even hinted at not making a new console. Honestly it would make no sense when their fanbase is constantly clamoring for it.
Btw isn't that supposed to look like an SNES somehow? Looks more like a sleeker Wii to me.

It's really not as bad as all that. It's only the the games that try to push the limits that require you to update every few years. Lots and lots of great games will work across many tiers of PCs.

Hey with how the controllers look maybe my post before, about the Return of Dreamcast games and VMU style games might not be that far off.. it looks made for games like sonic shuffle. I mean it wont be a memory card, but having the mini screen to focus on could make a lot of games very interestng.
Some other examples would be sorta like the top screen on the DS systems.
Legend of Zelda and castlevania based game could place a map screen in the controller, or maybe a quick view inventory screen.
If the screen is a touch one then you can imagine how complicated puzzle games can get.. specially in M rated games with you needing to solve the puzzle with th screen, yet also focus on the TV so you don't get back stabbed, seen, or interrupted. I can see a great many game play possibilities for the screen be it touch or not.

The controller will be expensive, fragile, bulky, gimmicky, impractical and barely used. They will quickly release a normal controller and everyone will buy it and use it 99% of the time. They will then sell a discounted We You with the normal controller that will be more popular.

Your argument would've been much better if you stated any of those but to me the 3DS is very cool :p Wii U I can understand. The Wii was cool and all at first but it lost it's appeal to me. The only games I buy for it are Mario and Zelda games lol.
N64 and GC were alright, but let's be honest, there aren't that many good games for them. N64 got a couple Mario games, a couple Zelda games, and a few Donkey Kong games that I really liked. Aside from a few others, there aren't too much good N64 games. Same for GC too. It's kind of the same thing over and over since the SNES...

Nintendo of America is not in charge of what Nintendo creates. Nintendo is a Japanese country, based in Japan, and it determines what it creates. All NoA does is decides whether or not to release things in America.
Simplicity != Good
Family Friendly != Bad
Something can be complex, family friendly and still be good. Ever heard of Dark Cloud, the content certainly was family friendly, and the game was somewhat complex, and it was an awesome game.
Now, look at God of War, it was not family friendly, the gameplay was pretty simple, and it is also a good game, but less so than Dark Cloud.
Basically, simplicity and family friendliness are traits of an inherently neutral value, which can be either good or bad dependent on the usage of them.
How can you miss the N64 days? I don't remember the SNES days, and I was born earlier into those than you were into the N64 days.

I can probably only name less than ten exclusive games for each of them that I liked. The reason I don't count non-exclusives is that, well, I could play them on another console, making the fact that they appeared on one specific console insignificant.
N64:
Super Mario 64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Goldeneye
Mario Kart 64
Super Smash Bros.
Banjo Kazooie
Gamecube:
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Animal Crossing

Quite a few of those N64 games were recently purchased from flea markets or gotten for free from other people too.

I'll admit that debate is completely subjective, but for me the Wii has been a disappointment. Nintendo could have done great things and they chose to coast on weak Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros Wii titles.
From the trademark post above, you see Wii Party U and Wii U Music. Wtf? Those two titles completely flopped on the Wii in North America, and yet NoA can make trademarks in advance for new installments for the Wii U, but not justify bringing over the Rainfall three, not even just one of them?

I doubt it. GC disks are 1.5GB. Nintendo is relying on flash memory again, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but unless they pack in at least 32GB of flash it will end up with the Wii's problem of constantly having to clean out the fridge to play games. Also it is an emulator issue, whatever emulator they write will be constantly have to shuffle the game data in and out of RAM as different things are loaded in game. Seeing as how the Gamecube failed to sell I doubt game makers will judge it to be worth the effort.

Yeah, that or if I find one at a pawn shop for cheap, I could justify that.

I'd like Big N to focus on handhelds also. I don't want to see their stuff on other consoles though. Only because I would love to see their entire focus on the handheld market.

The console is an issue though because from what I heard it comes packaged with the gimmicky Ipad rip off they're calling a controller.
Because apple invented tablets... oh, wait, no they didn't...
But sarcasm aside, many, many people criticized the Wii controller due to the idea of motion controls. I feel like this may be a divisive thing that isn't immediately utilized well. The Wii controller was looked as "never past the waggle-stage" even though it was utilized really well in later games. I feel that once devs get into it and relize it doesn't have to absolutely control every aspect of the game, it will be a quite useful accesory. Like maybe seeing your inventory at all times in Legend of Zelda for quick switches, or that top-down attack thing they do in COD for killstreaks.

So, you mean like how the touch screen was utilized poorly at first on the DS, but was later utilized much better?

Exactly! I probably won't buy it at launch unless I try the controller first. Even then, I might just use the Wii-mote instead. Take a look at Red Steel vs. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. red steel was.... a resounding meh. RE4 properly utilized the graphical superiority of the wii to the gamecube to improve on RE4's already pretty visuals and make an efficient pop-out shot system out of the aiming.
