I haven't given the Birthday thread much attention lately, but then I notice that it hasn't gotten much attention period.
I know it's nice to have people wish you a Happy Birthday, :cake::kiss::party::meeting: but I just want to know how you guys feel about this.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure since as I said the thread hasn't been getting much :love: lately.
This is also why I'm on the fence about it; I like the idea and that's why I put it to a vote.

By the way, the poll is not to determine the fate of the OHDTY thread.

It may have only happened once, but I'm not entirely sure.

I like the idea of the thread, but I never thought much of it. Checked it from time to time, participated sometimes. I think it should go on though, no reason for it not to.

Same goes for the dead celebs topic. Just typing Happy birthday or rip is not a good post. When several people do it consistently I feel it ruins the topic. If you have nothing more to say, don't post.

Yeah, it is basically spam, and it isn't at all a quality post, two words or something like that is worse than not posting at all.

To be fair the birthday topic is slightly better since people do write more than HB, usually. That damn dead celeb topic is full of single word posts that add nothing to the topic. Why even post RIP? It's like people are picking and choosing who they want to rest in peace. It's weird.

If you notice I started out with longer posts and as it dragged on and on they got smaller until I stopped altogether. If it means improving that topic I'd gladly delete any of my posts like that.

We've been through this before but just posting RIP is not honoring someone. Talking about their life or their impact on you is. Don't you wish that everyone who dies gets to rest in peace? Why would you need to say it for specific celebs?
Either way is it really asking a lot for people to just post more than one damn word or an acronym? Give these deaths some meaning and actually take the time to form a complete thought.

I think a person would be dishonest if they said they didn't - we all hold opinions on whom we do or do not like, individually judged and sorted accordingly.

I'm not saying that I tend to think of people in general that way, but there are certain individuals whom I believe the collective of Humanity would be better off without.

Yeah I was being too absolute but my point still stands. Generally everyone wishes the dead to RIP. It not needed and without any other words it's just spam really.

Btw, we don't exactly post the death of bad people and condemn them so this line of thought really is moot. The people we post about are generally good people and it's a given that we want them to rest in peace.

You're obviously not getting mine. Typing just "RIP" is not the same as "I'm sorry DB, hope he RIP". One is a personal expression of compassion for a friend and the other is just lazy. I know you can type more than one word, so do it. It's not that hard, as you just proved a couple posts up.

I'm not sure if I ever posted in the HB thread, and if I did, then they are few and very far in between. Truth of the matter is, unless I know you IRL, I really don't care when your birthday is. (Except for Ten...I am tempted to use the Freedom of Information Act, track down his address, and send him a candygram this year)

This is completely different, and not even comparable at all, as I took the context away from your statement.

I honestly think there should just be a bit more though than simply "RIP" or "Happy Birthday", it just feels too much like a form letter, you know? Thoughtless and impersonal, just stating things to make you feel almost somewhat valued.
