I had no idea who he was {even at my advanced age} so here's what W has to say about him:
Little is known of Patrick's early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the 4th century, into a wealthy Romano-British (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romano-British) family. His father and grandfather were deacons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deacon) in the Church. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-16) It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianization) the Irish from their native polytheism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_polytheism). Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamrock) to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity) to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelism), he died on 17 March 461, and according to tradition, was buried at Downpatrick. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish Church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholicism_in_Ireland).
About wearing green:
Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Patrick%27s_blue). Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew.[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-history.com-17) Green ribbons and shamrocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamrock) were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-18) He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Trinity) to the pagan Irish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_polytheism), and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-natgeo-19)[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-20) In the 1798 rebellion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Rebellion_of_1798), in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention.[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day#cite_note-history.com-17) The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wearing_of_the_Green).
Huh, so we should be wearing blue?
Is that why blue jeans are blue?
Hmmm...

No it's just more evidence that these holidays are meaningless excuses to distract ourselves and consume. Btw isn't it funny that people are heavily encouraged to drink for most holidays but the mere thought of smoking some weed is bad. Makes total sense!

Weed is an instrument of the Devil because it could replace the Oil, Paper, and most of the Medical Industries, not to mention feeding and clothing people as well.
Because of this, it must be forever cast out and shunned.
Nothing must stand against Global monopolies.
Smoking it and enjoying your own mind is strictly verboten!

No I'm just tired of people posting drunk in general. It's not cool or funny really, it's kinda sad and annoying. No offense to you personally, it's a general thing.
Btw the rare times I get drunk I can still post more coherently than you did there, were you blacking out and decided you needed to post on RU?

I don't drink and smoke never have so I just spent St. Patrick's Day drinking root beer and hanging with friends. Lost my wallet at one point but some good people returned it with everything still inside and untouched now that's what I call luck.

Although I don't feel I need to justify myself to someone who is so high up on their pedestal, I will anyway. I just came home from a St. Patrick's day party, (tradionally a party where the whole point is to get as drunk as possible) and I came in to see this topic. I wanted to express my party attitude in the topic, but I was laying in bed with one arm free to hit keys on the laptop which was on the floor, it was dark and hitting the correct keys in my state was next to impossible. I decided that typing: kdjyrdi7de67udt, would be just as effective as typing something like: "St. Patrick's Day is awesome!!!!"
Really DB, getting so offended over something like this is pretty lame.

It's like you go way out of your way to read into my posts. I'm not being all high and mighty about you being drunk. I used to drink a lot and I smoke weed probably more than you drink. Forgive me for not being impressed with your garbage post because you were drunk. Think of it this way, if I didn't comment no one would've said anything about it probably, mission accomplished.
