Any Sega Rpg's like Final Fantasy

The Phantasy Star series is very good. I have beaten 3 of the 4. Science fiction meets RPG, that's Phantasy Star.

They were not over hyped. That didn't start happening until the rabid fans came in after FFVII. Everything before that was and still is awesome beyond a doubt and stand up well even today. Over hyped would be MvC3.

I've only seen one person on here overhype MvC3. I only got it to play my best friend on it, but she has lag on her end which makes it unplayable. :(

Sorry about derailing the topic here for a bit. I'm not very familiar with RPGs for the Sega system, but is appears that Kong knows more than a few.

Shining Force I and II are Tactical/Strategy RPGs and very good if you like that sort of game

Shining in the Darkness is a first person dungeon crawler like Kong said. However you will need to either make your own map as you go or find one online or you will get lost and die very easily. The whole game takes place in 1 dungeon that is a maze with several floors.

Now if I could only get past the stupid demon statues in Shining Force Gaiden Final conflict I will have beat SF1,2, Shining Force CD(Gaiden, Sword of Haija and a new game) and Final Conflict.

Joz is right, FF didn't really start getting undeserved hype until 7. The games before that are pretty much awesome and any RPG fan worth their salt has played at least some of them.
Also if you like Chrono Trigger you'll love the older FF games.



As for the OPs question I'd go with Shining Force. Those are some awesome turn based RPGs.

Not liking it doesn't mean I can't recognize how over hyped it is. I'm calling it like I see it. Actually I think pokemon is one of the most over hyped games/anime/w.e in recent history. It's only topped by FF really.

Yeah, I can't stand all of that talk about Pokemon. There still are the people that talk about sports, drugs, parties, music, girls and all that good stuff, but Pokemon is a huge thing. It isn't bad after the game has been out for a few months, but from the day it is announced to about three months after it's been released, Pokemon is everywhere. I'm with Warghoul, getting excited about pokemon when you're in highschool is kinda weird. No offense intended to our resident pokemon fanatics.
When I was in high school we were out getting drunk/high and having sex. We played video games but no one got hyped about it. Or if they did they knew to keep it to themselves, ;)

I know it is really weird. It just seems unusual, because once the Pokemon craze fades a bit, everyone is back to getting drunk and high and talking about getting drunk and high. I just don't understand how everyone reverts to being in the third grade so suddenly, and returns back to normal shortly thereafter.

I have nothing against Pokemon, but I desire each generation of it less and less, as it just isn't as cool as it was when I was five or ten years old.
I don't know if the Pokemon are getting worse, or I'm just aging though.

At the high school I work at as soon as a new Pokémon game came out we would suddenly see some kids walking around with DS's and asking each other "Do you have a ditto" or "Do you have a Vulpix". Gotta admit though I got kinda caught up in it to but stopped myself before I bought a DS

Well I mainly work in the cafeteria but I'm no cook or dishwasher. I scan the kids and teachers lunch cards and charge them for their meals and stuff like that. And I also work in our office doing almost all of the computer work like keeping eight computers running and up to date at all times and entering kids and teachers data into our main computer. Believe me it's a lot of work and one screw up at the government is hiding in wait to come after you

depends what kind of people you talk to in high school I guess, I know all sorts of people, only the ones I know at bowling really got excited over pokemon... and even then they only mentioned it once to me at least.

I don't think I have ever once seen anyone with a ds at my school though or any console really for that matter. The kid that told me about the psp hack had his psp at school once, but that's all I ever saw.

As for FF I'm really into them at the moment, I went through all of FF VII again and finally beat the thing, now I'm doing the same with FF IV & FF V since I never finished them either. i don't really care to try FF XII or XIII after what I heard about the mechanics of the games though...
