In my little neck of the woods we just hit the 84" (7 feet) mark of snow for the winter yesterday. More snow to fall tonight, Thursday, and Saturday.

Anyone else having as much fun as we are?

Winter, for once, has been quite decent in South Dakota. We still have snow, but it usually melts at the rate it comes at.

We got a day of ice and the city shut down during the winter. That was fun.

NC had about 3 weeks of below freezing and snow in December. Most of the rest of the winter has felt almost like spring.

New York is finally snow free!! I had about 1-2 feet of snow outisde for about 2 months until it was sunny a few days and a bit warm. Also, it rained more and now the snow is gone! Hooray!! Now I just hope that it doesn't snow anymore. Most snow I've ever had in a winter here.

I've never seen snow in my life. I live in Hawaii so we don't have that much snow

Must be cold they show the mainland here and all the chaos snow cause but yet still I would like to see snow at least once

@Alohaex- Just wait for winter to visit a state with snow. It's best to get used to it in small amounts if it's new to you. Btw, if it's yellow don't eat it.

We had a couple of good snowstorms, but nothing stayed for more than a few days.

Tenser, you'll probably hate me but I just opened my windows yesterday for the first time all winter.
Vancouver has snowdrops, crocuses, and daffodils popping up already - it seems spring is already here.

My issue is that I live in a valley between two major mountain ranges which is just east of the largest lake system in the world. We get this interesting meteorological phenomenon called "Lake Effect Snow" in spades. There are areas closer towards Buffalo/Rodchester that get 15 - 20 feet annually.

@DB: I just looked up Boston's average yearly snowfall. At a measly 42" you've got no room calling anyone a lightweight.

Maybe you should move if you can't take it? I hear Boston is nice this time of year.

But really though I lived in Maine too. Without looking up averages I know we had snow taller than me, regularly.

So what I hear you guys saying is that your winters can be almost as bad as Canadian winters, eh?

You still haven't experienced it fully until you've wintered in a place like Winnipeg {nickname Winter Pig} or my beloved Northern Alberta, where the wind howls at -40 C.
One morning it was -60 C with the windchill, and I turned to my boss and said:
'Do we REALLY have to go to work today?'

@DB: It has nothing to do with "being able to take it." Don't imply that I'm some sort of snow pansy just because I'm tired of Winter and ready for Spring.

@JG: While it certainly gets colder in Winnipeg, we average twice the yearly snowfall. 110cm a year (roughly 36" w/out calculating) is paltry. We average about the same as Montreal does for snowfall which is around 226cm. Near Rodchester they get around 450cm of snowfall a year. Canadia's more cold than snow for the most part.

Canadia's more cold than snow for the most part.
My hometown of Moncton New Brunswick averages 24.28 feet of snow annualy.

As if I had a tame winter? KC got hit hard sometime in January. That same storm hit the NE even harder soon after. Fortunately, it's pretty much ceased down here.

It's 63 degrees here in California today. Brrrrrrr 8)

Oddly enough, it DID snow here this year. It was the first time since 1998 that snow levels reached the valley floor. We live near the Sierra Mountain Range (think Yosemite) which gets a lot of snow, but it's very rare to have snowfall at this low elevation (300'). Of course, it was only a dusting that stayed on the ground for about 2 hours but still I got to make a snowball.

48 degrees in Texas this morning. I'm gonna be taking a trip to NY next week. I hope the weather gets better by then.

We'll be staying somewhere in Queens, as my father in law lives there and we'll be staying with him during the trip. We're looking foward to exploring the city. Any places you might recommend to go and places you would NOT recommend on getting close to?

Sure, I don't recommend visiting NYC or LI.

All jokes aside, I'm an "upstater" so I don't visit the city unless I absolutely have to. We tend to greatly dislike and avoid that area though we do appreciate the economic engine that it is.

I'm sure your father-in-law is much better equipped to guide you around NYC than I am. I've only been there three times and I live less than four hours away.

Unfortunatly he has recently had an operation done and he will be bed riden for a few weeks. I'll look some stuff up online to see what's up.

Yeah, Fort Mac is probably the worst from what I've heard. Edmonton got nearly 8 feet at one point last year and -45. That was a bad year for Edmonton. It was unpredictable though, sometimes we had 2 months of snow there, sometimes we had several months. Or it just kept changing. Perfect example of a Chinook city.

I worked in Fort MacMurray for a while too, but it wasn't as cold as when I went to Fox Creek - oh man, I was ready to quit my job and buy a bus ticket back home, it was so cold.

Edmonchuk seems to have wind blowing constantly during the winter, stabbing like pins into your skin.
I remember one winter in Edmonton was so bad, I could only run a few doors down the streets downtown without having to duck in a store or whatever to warm up.
Run 3 or 4 stores down, duck in the next door.
No wonder they have those heaters in all the bus stops, and their shopping centers connect underground!
