This film came out back in 2008 and stars Donnie Yen as the legendary Ip Man. Ip Man is loosely based on the man, Ip Man, a grandmaster of Wing Chun and also the first to openly teach the art. Ip Man had many students, most notably the late Bruce Lee, and was a respected martial arts grandmaster world wide.
The film is starts off in the city of Fo Shan, a city renown for it's martial arts schools, during the 1930's and progresses into the Second Seno-Japanese War. Ip Man, Donnie Yen, is a both a wealthy and humble man who is respected for his martial arts prowess, which he only displays in private with whomever knocks on his door for a duel. When the Japanese invade China, Ip Man and his fellow countrymen are left with nothing and is compelled to fight with his fists.
Now, it's difficult to talk about the movie without giving too much on the plot, but this film has a great story and blends in multiple action sequences without overdoing it or being added in just for the sake of having another fight scene. The score of the movie also did a great job at setting the mood of the scenes.
Overall this is a great movie which I will recommend to anyone even if you're not too into martial arts movies.
