Laptop or Macbook?

Title say it all really. I've been thinking of getting a portable comp of some kind and was wondering what you guys thought I should get? Seeing as how some of you are quite techy and all ;)

It just comes down to what you want to use it for, people say macs are better for graphics and audio, pc's are better for general use. Personally I can't really tell the difference, to me they both function well in all areas that I've experienced, but that's what they say.

I'm guessing the laptop will be cheaper, and if you put windows on it will have a larger library of available software and games.

If you don't have any real reason to choose one over the other then I'ld stick to what you are used too, if you always use Mac then get the macbook, otherwise get the laptop. If you are used to one OS and not the other then switching will probably just piss you off.

I don't know... Price is the main problem, but I think my dad might split with me to get one or either.

Both are good, but I've always wanted a mac of some kind and would kinda like to have a macbook. But, as I said, Price is quite important, so I'll probably just get a laptop. Was just wondering what you guys would say about it.

My main reason for wanting one was because It'll be good for uni, and I'm going to be doing a lot of programming and it'll be good to have something other than Linux for that!

One of the big advantages of PCs over Macs is they are easier to work on and upgrade. Laptops do not have that advantage over macbooks. They could, they just choose not to, which is lame.

So, hardware wise, what I pick is what I'm stuck with?

You can do somethings - like replace a harddrive or battery and sometimes add extra memory - but yeah, laptops don't have nearly as many upgrade or repair options as a PC.

Just so's I know what's a good deal, can you guys possibly point me in the direction of a decent laptop that's got a good pricetag attached to it? I'm not the best with specs. They're all numbers to me (which is what I'm supposedly good at! :p )!

Not to derail, but this reminds me I really need to save money for my computer. :(

Getting the one Kong showed me though, i do recommend getting a big hard drive like 1tb+ if you worry about space like I do.

Student loan comes in soon mate! Money that doesn't gain interest until I start earning £15000 a year! They won't ask for a penny until I earn that amount. Not bad, eh?

Not sure on the conversion to US but from reading posts from sex I know it's more than the USA. Sounds good, as long as you don't drop out due to unforeseen circumstances. My Mom did that and has lots of loans still.

My student loan comes to something stupid like £2000 for the year. Comes in monthly instalments, first one about £600 the rest about £200. Not bad, eh? :P

As long as you can pay, then that isn't bad. Now get it, have kids to take care of, and have to drop out because you have too much on your plate.. yeah bad move.

Yeah, that does sound not too good. Luckily, I don't have kids yet, stay with my parent's and have a social life. Life's good! :p
