Nope, I don't have any desire to have a touch screen computer or phone or anything else.

I also like the physical and auditory feedback of buttons, it makes it easier for me to type or whatever else. That way I know for a fact that I have hit the button I intended to. That and if my screen gets a crack on it, I can still fully use my computer no problem, but if it was a touchscreen I wouldn't be able to touch that area and have it register properly.

Yes, a stylus makes touch screens much better. Sometimes I'll use my brother's Ipod touch for some reason, and it won't accept input from a stylus. It is really frustrating, I don't have a desire to put my dirty fingerprints all over a screen, my mom broke me of that desire long ago. I was always told to keep my fingerprints off of anything glass and any kind of screen, so why would I start now?

About the TV card, yes, in fact I'm going to be running directv through the computer. Bluetooth is calling correct? Dunno, maybe. Actually I want a desktop more than a laptop. I want to incorporate the use of both laptop and desktop into one. Laptop mostly for when I don't want on the big comp, or need a high powered device. Basically I am condensing everything in my room into one thing. :)

best processor I can findYou can not judge a processor by the price tag, the release date or the specs written on the package. You can only judge it by real world performance tests. Look up the processor here - PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php)
If you look up the processor I posted above, 8250e, you will see it is ranked as 310 fastest processor. #311 uses 3 times as much electricity and costs 4 times as much money and is slightly slower. That is a very useful link.

DirectTV encrypts the channels. That means you must change the channel on the DirectTV box. Your computer can not change the channel. That means you can not have your computer schedule recordings on different channels. Unless you get a cablecard for your PC which will add about a grand to the price.

I used to do network support for some hot shot medical company that used touch screens on all their devices. Needless to say most of the repair orders were for touch screen, thumb scanners, and windows memory leaks (computers that haven't been rebooted in years lol).

However I was using steves touch screen laptop and thought it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. I think the new touch screens ditched the old technology (this weird grid sheet of plastic laid over top an otherwise normal crt monitor) to that iphone touch screen style.


Anyway, tails that computer has great specs! I'm not sure how much you are paying for it, take a spin to your local custom computer store, they may be able to build the same spec PC for a lot cheap. HOWEVER hp has the best tech support in the business, and I'm not talking phone support, I mean like replace broken parts with better new parts. After working in a computer store I saw how each company handles (or more accurately DOESN'T HANDLE ) warranties, HP was crazy, it was like christmas they were replacing stuff like crazy with better new parts.

Toms hardware has a processor comparison chart. AMD makes processors for lower prices and high custom ability (over clocking) however they Intel makes better processors, but marginally better for cost ratios. You COULD buy an i7 for however much they go for, but your only needlessly future proofing yourself. Think of the i7 as the PS3 of computer processors. Only big companies actually code efficiently to utilize the processor (adobe etc). Assuming you want to do some crazy gaming, I'd cut on the processor and spend more on the videocard. Also, like Iw as saying, a custom will build a pc for you and help explain what each part does and you'll save tons of $. especially on the windows taxes that you have to pay for all new computers (the OS ain't free you know ;D). If you have your own copy of windows (I suggest a 64 bit version) then you save about $100 right there by not having the OS.

For $500 you can get an AWESOME PC. Personally I'd stay clear of retail stores however if you haven't already noticed by most of my posts I can be a jerk about technology.

Start by asking yourself questions.
Write down what you want to do with the computer.
Be very specific with these WANTS.
Then bring them back to us or talk to your local CUSTOM computer shop (retail stores lie to protect their egos sometimes lol).

I don't think I have a custom computer shop around here unless you mean something like Micro Center. I also don't want to build one, I'm too busy most of the time, not good with tools etc. just want it out of the package and be done with it.

Not into crazy gaming either, basically I want a computer that can run RU, play another site, and not worry about space, speed or anything else. Stuff like COD/L4D I'm not interested in, also rather not risk getting bad parts and having to ship everything back. (had a friend who buit his own computer took like 3 weeks to finally set up because of a faulty mother board) I'd think this way if something is broken I can just pack it up and return it or something.

I do know when I do get one, I would like to upgrade with spare cash. Like the PC right there it can go up to 16 GB. Here's the specs of my laptop:

I don't think I have a custom computer shop around here unless you mean something like Micro Center. I also don't want to build one, I'm too busy most of the time, not good with tools etc. just want it out of the package and be done with it.Call a few repair shops and ask them if there are any custom build places in town. They do all the building for you btw. At the very least ask for a quote.

if something is broken I can just pack it up and return it or something.Retail takes a lot longer I GUARANTEE THAT. When I was in college it took Futureshop at least 3-4 weeks to send my laptop away for repairs ... 2 months after I bought it. Sure 4 weeks isn't a long time ... UNLESS YOU ARE STUDYING OBJECT ORIENTED C# AND YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER ANYMORE FOR ASSIGNMENTS.

Dude your laptop is awesome. Get rid of your OS, install a 64 bit version of windows 7 or something. Copy all your cool files onto an external, then put on a new OS.

RU's Arcade OX hates linux, however, if you install ubuntu 64 (it's a fool proof install don't worry. )you'll notice an awesome difference.It truly brings older pc's to life. And you know what, I never tried using wine (a windows front end for linux) to emulate a windows browser ... that might work with arcade ox now that I think of it. You don't even need to install ubuntu, you can run it off of a CD if you want to give it a test drive.

ANYWAY , just try to reinstall your OS, your computer has many years left in it's life span dude.

Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) will save your computer my friend. All the software is opensourced (free) and the community is HUGE. You will get help on anything and everything.

I'm not looking to switch OS though.. I've grown up on windows and I'd be a deer in headlights with no support via my Mom if I need it (with her knowledge of basic computers) I want to reinstall this but need to get a disk or something to do it. That's my next plan. As you see this comp is crapola. Need one bad before it goes kaput.

Strangely the cashier was an old friend from Elementary school too. Got a monitor gonna set it up later.. to top it my cat had 3 Kittens too!

Awesome ! Tails by the way, you can use those 3 kittens to speed up your wifi, take regular lan wire, wrap it around each kitten, and then plug the ends into 2 lan cards. The electrical static from the cats fur will help boost your wifi signal increasing it's speed. This video kind of explains it...

No problems on this comp either btw, except I had issues getting AOX to work had to download ABP and firebug to get it to work, which is strange. (needed both too)
