Got on today, on my laptop, and no popup box from wireless, can't detect anything, FF opens, all but RU is offline which RU is cacheing from about 4 am. SO I take it downstairs plug the landline in it and it works. So, am I right that the Wireless card is probably broken?

Maybe not broken but it sure seems like you figured out where the problem is.

Some Laptops have a button on the front that turns Wireless functionality on and off. Could you have accidentally bumped it by mistake? My Wife does that all the time and I have to remind her to press it to turn it back on.

Nope not that, but good guess Elrod. :)
Litterally don't even recognized it it usually would say WLAN ENABLED or DISABLED.
Speaking of: Anyone know where to see where it's functioning right/new drivers for it?

Did that 5 times sadly.
This is for Vista - will be similar for other Window flavors.
Go to control panel. Click Device Manager. Look under Network. Make sure your wireless card is listed and not showing errors.
In Control Panel click Network and Sharing Center. Click Manage Network Connections. See if Wireless is listed. Make sure status doesn't say disabled. Right Click Wireless and select Connect/Disconnect. See if it works.

Something called NVIDIA nForce 10/100 MBPS ethernet. Right clicked and an option says update drivers.
Go to the second thing and nothing is listed. Says "You are currently not connectedf to any networks"
That's your wired network card. Not your wireless. If that is all that is showing then it is not seeing your wireless card. Either it is dead, unplugged or turned off.

It was built into the laptop, it's turned on (made sure of that).. so I guess it is dead. :(
Thanks for the confirmation Kong. Would you have any ideas for a compaq laptop?
Spefs: Presario F700
Would you nee S/n or p/n?
Anything happen when it stopped working? Like did you install anything or drop it or did it overheat or was there a thunderstorm?
Easy solutions.
1. Contact Compaq and ask for help.
2. Create a Live CD and boot to it and see if your wireless works there. Download this Slax: get slax (http://www.slax.org/get_slax.php) burn to a cd. Reboot with CD in laptop. It should autorun. Follow instructions on screen. Seen if wireless works.
3. Buy this Newegg.com - Linksys WUSBF54G IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Wireless-G Network Adapter with Wi-Fi Finder Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates WEP Encryption, WPA Security (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124183&cm_re=usb_wireless_network_adapter-_-33-124-183-_-Product)
