View Full Version : Top Ten and Bottom Five Tekken Characters

So here I am, stealing SJBs idea yet again.

But this time it won't be the exact same thing he wanted to do... so I hope.

Top ten Tekken characters.

Some changes have been made to the top ten, seeing as I remembered a few characters I forgot earlier.

First of all, I chose ten, because there are not enough characters in the Tekken series, to have twenty of them and all of them be worth mentioning, around fourteen or fifteen those unmemorable but still alright characters come in.

Starting with the top ten:

10
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100425120302/tekken/en/images/8/8d/T1_Jack.jpg
JACK/JACK-2/P. JACK/GUN-JACK/JACK-5/JACK-6

All different names for pretty much the same character. Yes there were some slight tweaks here and there, but the fighting style is the same.

JACK is a robot created by the Mishima Zaibatsu, and he is powerful

His fighting style consists heavily of high powered moves, that move sort of slow.

9
http://www.tekkenpedia.com/w/images/d/d0/Screen05EMO.jpg
Lei Wulong

Lei Wulong is a super cop. He is kind of similar to Jackie Chan.

As for his story, he is pretty much always trying to arrest someone. He is always making jokes, or the butt of a joke. While pretty much providing comic relief, he is still pretty cool.

His fighting style is quick, and utilizes a variety of stances to beat the opponent while being unpredictable.

8
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100820141054/tekken/en/images/3/30/KT4.jpg
Kazuya Mishima

The son of Heihachi Mishima. He is mad at Heihachi. Why? Because Heihachi was a total dick and threw him down a ravine, saying that his son would survive. This nearly killed the young Kazuya, and he made a deal with the devil, in exchange for his soul, Kazuya could live and get revenge.

Kazuya is a bit faster and weaker than Heihachi, and he is good, seeing as Heihachi is unbelievably fast and strong.

7
http://imm.io/media/1g/1gXK.jpg
Nina Williams

The only Tekken character t have a game made entirely about them, she is pretty cool. She was raised in Ireland and trained as an assassin early in life. Those looks don't hurt her case either.
Hates Anna
She specializes in kicks and is really good at grappling.

6
http://imm.io/media/1g/1gXT.jpg
Yoshimitsu

Ah.. Yoshimitsu, a freak. One of the few Tekken characters who's style is not based on a real style, and the only character based on a real person. Yoshimitsu is based on one of the pioneers of ninjutsu, sharing the same name.

Think of Yoshimitsu as a robotic zombie ninja, because that is what he is. He can kill himself, fly using his sword, use his sword as a pogo stick, sit on the ground and meditate, and kick everyone's ass while doing so.

It seems unfair to have a guy with a sword in Tekken games, but he isn't easy to play as so it works out.

Marshall Law

He is Bruce Lee. No disputing that.
In every game he appears in, he either has a costume that resembles something that Bruce Lee wore in a movie, or can be customized to have that appearance.

Basically he is a fighting chef, and he just needs to pay his bills most of the time.

His fighting style is described simply as "Martial Arts" as a joke, but it is the style of Kung Fu know as Jeet Kune Do, the same as Bruce Lee.

He is fast, and can pull some amazing combos, and he isn't really friendly for button mashing. Sure you can do something, but it's not like Eddy where you can win just by randomly pressing buttons.

4
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080610183506/tekken/en/images/8/8d/King_tekken.jpg
King

King is technically two different characters at different points in the series, but basically the same anyway.

A Pro wrestler who wears a cheetah mask. He is awesome.
He was trained by Armor King.

Focuses on grappling, can do combos of grappling moves and throws, with a famous ten grab combo.

3
http://imm.io/media/1g/1gY3.jpg
Sergei Dragunov

I know you are wondering why I have such a new character at such a high spot. Well, I just think he is cool and fits right into the Tekken crowd.

Sergei Dragunov is a Russian SS type, and his story is left rather enigmatic.
All we know is that his mission is to capture Devil Jin and Jinpachi Mishima.
He doesn't speak, but he occasionally grunts upon being hit.

His style is rather unique. Very fast and focused on grappling moves. It is described as Russian Sambo. He also uses grappling techniques like that of the common military concepts used in hand to hand combat. Many of his combos actually turn into grappling moves, and a good portion of his grappling moves are unable to be broken. This guy is good.

2
http://imm.io/media/1g/1gY8.jpg
Ganryu

A sumo wrestler perma-banned from the sport when caught fixing matches in his favor. He was hired by Heihachi, and also fell in love with Michelle Chang. His story isn't all that interesting if you ask me, but I just like the character.

Like a good sumo wrestler, his style focuses on jabs and controlling the movements of the opponent, he is really fun to play as once you get the hang of it.

1
http://imm.io/media/1g/1gYr.jpg
Heihachi Mishima

Heihachi Mishima is an old guy. By Tekken 6 he is over seventy years old. And he can still kick everyone's ass.

He appeared in the PS2 version of Soulcalibur II, and despite being old and not having a weapon, he was still able to kick everyone's ass.

The initial head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, he started the whole tournament thing.

He has the best hair and mustache ever, and even as they've toned it down, it is still awesome.

He starts out as the villain, and is never a good guy.
He threw his son Kazuya off a cliff.
He adopted a Chinese boy and took him under his wing, just to piss Kazuya off.

He is also the only Mishima to not have some evil demon form. Jinpachi did, Kazuya did, Jin did, and Heihachi didn't.

Heihachi beat a ton of JACKs and even survived a giant explosion. He is just unstoppable.

Heihachi is one of the best characters in the entire series, and is faster and more powerful than just about anyone. He is hard to beat, and relatively easy to play as. He can be played both cheaply and fairly, and be able to win either way.

The Worst:

5
http://www.tekkenpedia.com/w/images/e/e3/Roger_%28TTT%29.jpghttp://www.tekkenpedia.com/w/images/d/d7/Alex.jpg
Roger/Alex

Neither one of them is there own character in the games. They are always together, one of them is chosen by pressing the punch buttons, and the other is chosen by the kick buttons.

I don't personally find anything fun about playing as either of them, and they are just super genetically engineered animals.

They pretty much fight like every fictional kangaroo ever. Not boxing, but not kick boxing either.

4
http://imm.io/media/1h/1hm3.jpg
Alisa Bosconovitch

Really, what we needed was another robot.
This one has chainsaw hands. And sure turning your hands into chainsaws and cutting people up is fun for a bit, it just gets old.
Her style is unbelievably cheap, with her chainsaw hands she can do severe damage.
Oh, she can also remove her head. That just isn't cool.

I am also tired of cute, yet impossibly powerful girls in video games.

3
http://imm.io/media/1h/1hmz.jpg
Lee Chaolan

Heihachi's adoptive son. A silver haired, feminine man similar in appearance to Raiden from MGS2. He is fast and very cheap.

He has an infinite kick combo, and he specializes in forcing the opponent against a wall so they can no longer evade.
He is also overpowered.

In his defense, he has a funny ending in Tekken 5.

2
http://www.tekkenpedia.com/w/images/9/95/Drbcharacterphoto.jpg
Dr. Boskonovitch

This guy fails. Most of his moves are based on other characters, and he falls down all the time. None of these copied moves are as good as the normal character's.

He was the creator of the JACKs, Bryan Fury, Yoshimitsu's robot suit, Roger, Alex and Alisa.

All he ever cares about is Alisa, he just wants to fix Alisa. It gets old.

Mokujin

Every round a different character.
Not fun to play as because of this.

He is a possessed training dummy, brought to life first by Ogre's presence, and then the presence of Jinpachi, and again because of Azazel. Every time there is evil, he is magically awakened to save the day.

He is a joke character, but he is still not cool.

Sergei uses Russian Sambo huh?
I guess Zangief has competition.

I think Yoshi should have been higher and Eddy should have been 10.

You forgot to put your name in the title because others might make a list like it.

But aside from that, I like it.
I'm glad people are making lists too.

I have always loved Law personally. (Both Marshall and Forest)

Not too bad but I have to disagree with Miguel. I don't see anything good about him and his character is annoying.

I also disagree with having both Nina and Anna but neither of the Laws, that just ain't right. Anna has been revamped a little over the years but she's still a Nina clone with less powerful moves. She'd already gone like Kunimitsu if it wasn't for the whole sibling rivalry thing.

Good to see no Bob, Lili, Eddy or Alisa though.

My favourite has always been Yoshimitsu.

Yeah, Thinking about it more, I am going to edit my top ten before I go for the bottom five.

I completely forgot about Law, and I thought of some other characters.

Okay, Worst added, added two characters I remembered, to the top ten.

Marshall Law and Lei Wulong.

Mokujin is actually cool if you know all the characters well enough. I like picking him and having people underestimate me. Lee is also cool, in the recent games. He used to just be a Law clone but now he's got his own badass set of moves. Still metrosexual to the max though.

Nice list Demon Mask. Although i do like using Lee i agree on Dr. Boskonovitch.

I don't like how overpowered Lee is, sure he is fun to play as, but he is nearly impossible to beat.
Mokujin is alright to play as, but I just would like him better if he had his own moveset.

Actually, Sergei's version of Sambo is more like the real style.

I disagree with the bottom five. Lee Chaolan is not overpowered to the max. Kazuya is. To be fair, even Hwoarang is more overpowered than either Kazuya and Lee. Did everyone forget Violet Lee and Lee Chaolan are the same person?

Violet Lee? I don't know who you are talking about.

Well:
A] The unicorn on his back takes away every chance he ever had of being cool.
http://imm.io/media/1j/1jX8.jpghttp://imm.io/media/1j/1jXa.jpg

B] Try this for overpowered:
Lee has infinite kick combos that don't require you to alternate buttons (like Steve's jabs)
Lee's moves tend to have a fairly high priority
Lee is too fast for a character that can do heavy damage easily. At least with Kazuya you trade a bit of speed for strength, and Ling isn't much faster than Lee, but isn't too much faster than him.

C] This list is based on a number of factors:
character design, character's backstory, how good or cheap they are, how enjoyable it was for me to play as them. There is probably some more, but the point is I made a list, and I placed people as I see fit, therefore I placed one of my least favorite characters towards the bottom. You can deal with it, you can argue with me, you can make your own list. I don't care what you do about it.

Wouldn't it make sense to list Violet Lee under Lee since you listed all the Jacks?

fenrir1887
09-15-2010, 11:24 PM
Anyone who ever plays a Tekken game should know Violet Lee. And I wasn't intending to argue the point, Demon-Mask. I'm just saying it is my opinion that Lee isn't overpowered.

Dudebro
09-15-2010, 11:46 PM
Lee is certainly not overpowered and he never was. Anyone who knows the game well won't fall for his stupid infinite kicks(if it still exists) and the rest of his moves are pretty easy to defend against if you've fought him enough to know his style. He's like a watered down Law with some unique moves thrown in for good measure.

Also Lee is supposed to be metro. He's always been that way and he probably will be that way as long as they keep him around. He's no worse than the majority of FF characters with their fur lined half shirts and whatnot.

fenrir1887

Yeah, I'll do that. I honestly didn't know who he was, isn't he just an alternate costume of Lee, like how Tiger Jackson is just a different costume for Eddy?

Okay, he really isn't all that overpowered now that I think of it. I think my problem was with the fact that I just get pissed off when someone uses him to play the walls.
I hate it when anyone uses the walls as the main point of their strategy.

He still has his infinite kicks, something I never fell for anyway, but it has been made a bit harder to pull off and a bit easier to avoid.

Also Lee is supposed to be metro. He's always been that way and he probably will be that way as long as they keep him around. He's no worse than the majority of FF characters with their fur lined half shirts and whatnot.
Just because Lee is supposed to be metro, doesn't make it less annoying.

Actually, I can't add Violet to my list, I can't edit it anymore. I also realized that I knew Violet Lee as simply Violet.

Anyone who ever plays a Tekken game should know Violet Lee.
No, he only appeared in Tekken 4. If he only appeared in Tekken 4 and someone has played every Tekken game but Tekken 4, they wouldn't know him.

samejamesbond

It could be many people, Jin, Eddy, Yoshi, Martial, they're all good.

Demon-Mask
09-17-2010, 05:31 PM
what is the best character in the games?
Depends on who's playing, but generally Eddy, Heihachi, Bryan, Kazuya and Lee are ranked best amongst tournament level players.

Eddy is one of the more popular characters for people to use because of how easy it is to win just by randomly hitting the attack buttons, and how hard it is to anticipate his moves whether the player is playing fair or just button mashing.

Dudebro
09-18-2010, 03:07 AM
Eddy is not a best character, he should be in a different game.

Demon-Mask
09-18-2010, 11:29 AM
No, he isn't a best character, but he is one of the strongest fighters in the game. He is a button masher character, even in tournament level matches, the players who use Eddy either mash buttons or spam the hell out of his attacks.

He is hard to anticipate and thus hard to counter.

And as cool as Capoeira is, I really don't like Eddy.

Dudebro
09-18-2010, 08:41 PM
I stand by what I said, he doesn't belong in a game like Tekken. He's a novelty that should've wore off long ago.

Demon-Mask
09-18-2010, 09:21 PM
Yeah, that makes sense. He isn't fit for Tekken.

fenrir1887

Would it actually kill anyone to play him? Geez, just because his combos are hard to break doesn't mean he's unfit for Tekken. That belongs to Bob.

Dudebro
09-20-2010, 03:24 AM
I can actually play Eddy somewhat and I really do think he doesn't fit in Tekken. I agree that Bob also doesn't fit though, he's so lame.

Umm... I am actually good with Eddy, I just don't like to play as him as much as say Heihachi or someone.

Capoeira is more of a form of dance, not a fighting style. It is used occasionally for mock-fighting, but in a practical situation it wouldn't really hold up, it would only be even remotely successful against another person trained in Capoeira or a very drunk, mentally deficient person.

Bob doesn't fit in at all:
Somehow a massively obese man is faster than all these people in good shape.
He was supposedly a martial artist as a child, but still he wouldn't be able to move quite that fast.

That and he just isn't cool at all.

It's both. It's popular in Brazil.

Dudebro
09-22-2010, 11:27 PM
I don't think it's fair to say it's not a fighting style. I thought I heard it was developed because the common people weren't allowed to own weapons or train to fight, like Kung Fu.

fenrir1887
09-22-2010, 11:31 PM
I'm not sure who developed it. All I know is it was designed for Brazilians to defend themselves. Flexible people need a flexible martial art.

Dudebro
09-22-2010, 11:39 PM
Brazilian jujitsu is much better for defense. The Brazilians clean up in MMA.

fenrir1887
09-22-2010, 11:42 PM
I'm sure they do. Although, I currently don't know any Brazilian fighter in MMA.

Either way, that doesn't make Eddy unbeatable. You'd need a hard hitting character to deal with him. Kazuya, for instance.

It is a fighting style, but that isn't it's primary function.
It is more or less a dance that is functional in combat situations.

It was designed as a mixing of African fighting styles and dance. I don't know too much about it, but it sure is something to watch.

samejamesbond
09-23-2010, 06:36 PM
I've seen Capoeira first hand, it's pretty impressive.

Capoeira was designed by slaves brought to Brazil as a fighting style that looked like a dance.
