i cant get used to playing on my keyboard like its a controller, usualy not a problem cause i prefer rpg's but i dont always have several hours to play and would like to know what a good game would be to sort of ween me off controlers so i dont die every six seconds due to horible finger placement
have you configured the keys to a more comfortable setting on your keyboard? When you play a game, press the TAB key and it should open up a menu to help you out with better finger placement. Welcome to RU by the ways.

punch out
You can get a new controller for $20-40. Also it is pretty easy to get a decent used controller from thrift stores for under $5.
But you are asking for games that would be extra easy to play with the keyboard.
Pac Man (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/?q=pac+man) There are several arcade games like like this that only use the arrows. That would probably be a good place to start. And then work up to games that only have arrows and one button and keep going until you are up to 8 buttons!
Here are some other games with simple controls
Bal Cube (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/4929/) » Coin Op (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/coin-op/)
Cameltry (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/5064/) » Coin Op (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/coin-op/)
Dragon Crystal (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/1135/) » Game Gear (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game-gear/)
Dune II - The Building of a Dynasty (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/1180/) » Genesis (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/genesis/)
Moai Kun (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/2497/) » Nintendo (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/nintendo/)
Ninja Kun (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/2735/) » Nintendo (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/nintendo/)
Rampart (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/3243/) » Sega (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/sega/)
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/4814/) » Coin Op (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/coin-op/)

Also some handhelds and older consoles, like Game Boy, Game Gear, Atari, ColecoVision and Flash, probably have easier buttons.
If you want some more games give some feedback on that list - like what you liked and didn't like and what you are looking for.

Try Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Tetris, Dr. Mario, or Phantasy Star 1 or 2.
And welcome to RU, if you need any other recommendations, you can ask me.

I feel you on the keyboard. I too am a RPG player on this site but I once played Ninja Gaiden with the keyboard. My wrists hurt for a week. LOL.

Have you thought about looking into a program that translates controller input to keyboard presses?
I know I saw that mentioned somewhere not sure where though.
Umm I can recommend you to play just about any game from the coin op. Those will make you get used to the keyboard fast.

If you are looking for RPGs that work well on the keyboard, there are classics like:
Retro Uprising - Arcade - Final Fantasy (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/1353/)
Or even:
Retro Uprising - Arcade - Earthbound (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/1199/)
There are plenty of fun games on RU that you could use the keyboard for.
