Controller maping

I was just wondering where the controller mapping options went in the games?

I havent played on here for a while and I missed a lot of updates lol..

Ok...im still having a few issues with setting up my controller. I was using a standard game pad (which worked) but now Ive upgraded to a Hori stick.

Ive tried X padder but I cant find a way to import a picture of my stick into it. It does display the name (so I know its being detected) but thats as far as I get.

Ive tried going in game and using the tab option but It only "sees" my keyboard. I can change options on it but thats all.

I really want to use my stick on fighting games and shooters. Any suggestions?

I'm a bit confused. If you hit tab in the game and try to set the controls are you not getting the option to set each button/direction? If so, you can hit ENTER over each area and press the button you want to assign. It should assign it if you are in that area. I use Pinnacle more than Xpadder as I think it has better options, but Xpadder should work too.

As far as I know, RU does not officially endorse any software like this, but I believe I downloaded Pinnacle from their website (Xpadder was the same).

That's weird that your controller is not recognized, but it does happen sometimes. A key to joy program is probably the way to go.

That could be some of the problem. Some of the PS3 controllers are not recognized by a lot of PC's.

That could be. Maybe Kong will have a suggestion. If it dosent work then I'll probably buy another pad controller that works.:(

You have to first get the PS3 controller working with Windows. After that hurdle it should be easy.

I know I tried to use a PS3 corded one on my PC and it didn't work either. From what I have read online I think this seems to be a problem with a lot of people. If you like Hori controllers, there are some nice ones made more for Xbox 360, and they work perfectly on the PC.

I agree with Steven. Smit, unless you just have no way to get a different controller. I would be really careful with messing with drivers. It's a bummer, but Sony is not all that great at PC support. :sidefrown:

Just to be clear for other people reading this, this thread has to do with getting a PS3 controller to work on a PC and doesn't have anything to do with AOX or RU or our games.

I thought if you tried to install a driver that was not signed Windows would pop a message saying this driver is not signed, do you want to continue. Yes or No. I have seen that before. Are you logged in as admin?

The following is more of an educated guess than an expert opinion. You should double check through Google.

A driver is a piece of software that lets your computer communicate with hardware. A driver has the power to do anything to you computer and if it is a virus or just poorly written and buggy then that could be something bad.

Starting with Windows Vista and now Win7, Microsoft forces drivers to be signed. If they are not signed then they will not install. This is to prevent viruses and buggy drivers from being spread.

As far as I know all this really means is the company has a few hundred or maybe few thousand dollars to spend on getting it signed. There isn't any type of testing being done. Most viruses creators wouldn't spend the money because they can find a free way to do it without drivers. And most poorly written drivers wouldn't pay for the certification because they are too cheap to begin with. So paid signing kind of raises the bar and ensures that drivers for Vista are better than ones for XP.

I had to pay to have ArcadeOX signed before IE would let you install it under default security settings. All that involved was paying a yearly fee and providing proof of identity and address. I think drivers are similar. This is more secure than not requiring it but it is hardly bullet proof.

So anyways, turning signed driver enforcement off would make drivers as insecure as they were on XP and as regular software is on Vista and you are OK with the risk that regular software has.

I think if you just keep in mind that you turned this security off and stay extra careful and don't install any drivers without turning this back on then you should be OK.

Thanks Kong. I was thinking the same thing you said on the last part. If I turn off my security I just need to remember that it is off when I try to install other programs or download anything.

Like I mentioned part of the disclaimer was that every time your restart your computer you will need to reset this setting or it wont work (im sure this is embedded microsoft security setting).

Thanks for the suggestions. I may do that just to have an easier to use alternative, but I might try to see if this works and report back on what happens just in case someone else is brave enough to try lol...
