So what do you guys think of the Metal Slug series?
I personally think it is awesome because it is funny and over-the-top, but the gameplay mechanics are still solid and intense.
I like how the enemies are sometimes just relaxing, then freak out when they see you, I also like the random stuff that can happen, like getting turned into a zombie, getting fat, getting turned into a mummy, saving, and then getting followed by "Hadouken Guy", getting turned into a monkey, getting followed by a cloud that shoots lightning bolts.

Could a mod please add a poll with options along the lines of "Good" "Bad" "Never Played"?
I thought I added it, but I must have spaced.

Poll added.
I voted never played it because I never played it. :(

I've played Metal Slug 4 and completed it. I thought it was a good game considering it took me 8 quarters to complete it :lying:
hmmm perhaps we could request for Metal Slug coin op games and give people like DB a chance to experience it.

I've played Metal Slug 1-7, including X, and these games are masterpieces.
My personal favorite was 5 and then 3.

I can't remember what ones I have played, at least 4 different ones. It's one of the few games where I'll beat it and just play again.

And sadly, 4 is the worst of them, it was made by different people and played sort of like a bad re-hash of the previous ones, except the final boss.
The bosses throughout the series are all so cool:

I remember the giant enemy crab.
Death was easily the hardest boss in the series.

Yup, Death was one hell of a boss. That was Metal Slug 5, right?

Yeah it is from 5, I can't think of one boss that comes close to that brutality...

A very, very solid run and gun series. On par with Contra.

I actually prefer Metal Slug to Contra.
I like how Metal Slug is designed to be a three button shooter, you have jump, shoot, grenade.

Yeah, Contra is a great series, but too Metal Slug is just funner.

His name is Hyakutaro Ichimonji.

You have a sprite of the soliders running/screaming in panic?
That was easily the best part of the game.

The final boss of Metal Slug 3 is a rat bastard, with a nigh unavoidable attack coming from below the screen at high speed, combined with a shockwave from the brain of a boss. At least in Metal Slug 5's final the attacks come one at a time and they are dodgeable.

The final boss in Metal Slug 3 is a pain in the ass.

The final boss in Metal Slug 3 is a pain in the ass.
Pretty much all of the final bosses are a pain, but MS3 takes the freaking cake, that final boss has an insanely freakishly high amount of life (forgive my exorbitant pun) that takes so many quarters/credits to beat. Here is a summary of that boss whenever I do it:
*boss starts*
Successfully use tank invicibility abuse to dodge projectiles for a while. Fire cannon madly.
*tank eventually is disabled*
Walks to brain, tosses all grenades, stabs and stabs.
*dies*
Walks to brain, tosses all grenades, stabs and stabs.
*dies*
*continues*
*gets 2 more lives to repeat the above*
*repeat x 10*
In all the other MS games the final boss has an attack pattern and a big area to dodge.
MS1: Vs. Morden in helicopter, huge area to jump in, and have a minigun to defend and abuse invincibility
MS2: Vs. Mars People Mothership UFO, 2 phases, again a large area to dodge in. The only real threat are those elite black UFOs that come out in threes and spread all over the screen. But at least you have backup (for once) that will take shots for you.
MS3: A tank that only takes 2 hits before it is gone, you must stand on the boss itself, stabbing a brain that emits a shockwave, while shots come from below.
MS4: Some robots that I don't remember because I didn't like that game. Easy, plus escape sequence that was pointless.
MS5: Giant demon that has a rather large variety of attacks, only dodgeable with good baiting and perfect jumps, but its possible. Second hardest after MS3, boss doesn't have so much life.
MS6: Giant alien with attacks so slow its laughable, I beat this guy without dying in the arcades easily.
I don't know MS7 since I sold it before finishing it, MS on a small screen is not cool.

Metal Slug Anthology is pretty awesome (except on the Wii, Metal Slug with motion control is not cool). The PSP version because it is Metal Slug you can play anywhere, and the screen is decent sized. The PS2 because it is Metal Slug on a screen as big as your T.V.
Metal Slug Anthology has MS1 - 6, X included.
It would have taken me 47 or so quarters to beat MS3, and only 10 to beat MS4.

I have MS Anthology for the PS2, its pretty sweet except for 4. It looks so crisp over component cable on my 26" TV. I'm so crazy I even downloaded Metal Slug on Virtual Console, it's even better because the control with the wiimote turned horizontally is perfect, and the sound is better.
However, don't download MS2 for VC, it is not worth it. If you do, you will learn why MS-X was released, the original MS2 lags so much. This was fixed on the PS2 (and rightfully so).

I know, I have the PSP verson of Metal Slug Anthology, I played 2 and hated the lag, I played X and there was no lag. I don't get how they managed to fail so bad at making MS 2 not lag.

I just didn't like Metal Slug 7 as much as I did MS 3 or MS 5. As a matter of fact the only Metal Slug game I liked less than 7 was 4, because 4 played like a bad rehash of all of the previous games in the series {and they didn't let you play as Tarma}. That being said, the worst game in the Metal Slug series, is better than the best game in a lot of game series, particularly ones with so many sequels.

I love Metal Slug. While some are better than others, I like the whole series.
