You are a cute blue-haired girl patrolling the outer zones on your trusty red airbike. What's this? Bad guys on the horizon? Oh no - not on my shift!

A 3D shooter that strives for 2D playability, but falls somewhat short of the mark. The graphics are appealing, to say the least. If you enjoyed Space Harrier 2, then this might be a good follow-up.

The player controls a 21-year old cadet named Hiromi Tengenji, who as part of her final training she battles high-tech enemies on a futuristic motor scooter. Hiromi Tengenji's most recent appearance in the gaming world has been in Namco X Capcom, where she is partnered with Toby Masuyo from her own game, Baraduke.

The gameplay is similar to Space Harrier, though the levels are divided in four sections and there is no vertical mobility making the game different in its own right. In the first two sections the player controls Hiromi on the scooter, which can move to the left and right, as well as braking and accelerating. The scooter can also shoot the standard bullets and missiles. The third section is a boss level, and the vehicle is in this case a flying ship which can move in all directions. The fourth section is a bonus stage, and the player has to collect as many numbered balls as possible for bonus points.

Despite being relatively unknown, Cosmic Epsilon is such a fun, unorthodox scrolling shooter released by Asmik. Common shooters tend to scroll either horizontally, such as Zanac and 1943, or vertically, such as Abadox and Gradius.

Port of the highly regarded sci-fi arcade shooter of its day. No plot - just fly and shoot, then go through the tunnels to find the boss, defeat him, and move on.

A Sega arcade classic in the same vein as Afterburner and other such first-person shooters, but with superior graphics and gameplay. This one made for an easy and faithful port to the Genesis, and is quite enjoyable even after all these years. The enemy scaling is still rather choppy, but at least it isn't as bad as Space Harrier 2.

A single player shoot-em-up in which the purpose is to fly through the solar system, destroying waves of alien attackers, before finally reaching Earth. Planets that must be passed before Earth is reached are Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars.

It only takes two warps to reach Neptune, but all of the others, including Earth, take three warps to get to. Each time the player reaches a planet, they will be faced with a Challenge Stage. A bonus stage in which players try to destroy as many aliens as possible to accrue points. After reaching Earth, there is a Challenge Stage, followed by a very fast 'three warps to Neptune' stage. After this, the levels and the background music start over.

Gyruss' superb gameplay, in which the player ship rotates around the edges of the screen and fires 'inwards', is heavily influenced by Atari's 1981 classic, "Tempest". While the design of the Alien ships themselves is similar to those of Namco's also legendary "Galaga" series.

The entire solar system is being attacked by the vicious Gyrusians, and it's up to you to save the day! You will need to fly your spaceship to each of the nine planets and then clear three stages of enemies to rid that planet of the Gyrusians. You start the game with a single canon, and can gain a double canon after shooting a power up satelite. After clearing each planet, there is another bonus stage where additional weapons and bonus points can be collected. Gyruss is an arcade action shooter, however instead of piloting your spaceship horizontally or vertically, you move in a circle around the perimeter of the screen. The NES version of Gyruss adds to the original arcade version additional music, additional weapons, new enemies, and a large boss at the end of each level.

From the far reaches of Neptune, to the safe haven of Earth--battle your way across the Universe in this exciting adventure based on the popular arcade game.
Suspense builds with every beat of thrilling and dramatic music--perhaps unlike any video game music you've ever heard before! To these compelling strains, you'll fend off unremitting waves of spiraling, swirling alien ships. Piloting your spacecraft in a circular flight pattern, blast these fiendish intruders with your rapid-fire lasers--before they vaporize you. And watch out for killer meteors and deadly satellites along the way!
Reach one planet and you'll have just enough time to catch your breath for the next--and more difficult--wave of enemy attacks that seperate you from eventually reaching the sanctuary of Earth!

Borrowing shooting elements from Space Harrier and emulating the overall look of F-Zero, HyperZone is a colorful outer space shooter in which players pilot five different ships (varying in speed, power and weapons) down futuristic "highways," blasting away at hostile aliens while avoiding fireballs and space junk. Straying off the road into areas of radiation zaps the ship's energy, but cruising over panels in the road restores power and repairs ship damage. The viewpoint is from behind the ship, and players can maneuver up, down, right and left, but the course never veers from its stubbornly straight pathway, making for some mind-numbingly-repetitive shooting action. The sound effects are serviceable at best, but the music is fast and far out, and the landscaping is otherworldly. Hyper gamers will appreciate all the shooting, but the game is too repetitious and one-dimensional to put players "in the zone."

A 3D first-person perspective arcade shooter whose plot concerns the misadventures of a superdeformed red-headed witch. This was but one of many products inspired by a well-known and popular Japanese manga character.

Gameplay is actually halfway decent, with lots of oncoming stuff to dodge and shoot. Lots of powerups, and options which can fly in different formations. Graphically, this game is astounding - from the picturesque anime-style cinemas to its polygonal scrolling backgrounds. Unfortunately, the scaling is rather choppy - as is common with games of this type. It's no competition for the SNES StarFox, but man - it was oh-so-cool for the time.

Panzer Dragoon Mini is a Shoot-'Em-Up game, developed and published by Sega, which was released in Japan in 1996.

Due to the technical limitations of the Game Gear, it plays closer to the classic Sega arcade game Space Harrier, although it has the lock-on feature; also, for the first and (so far) only time in the series' history, the dragon doesn't have a rider.
