Prince Elwin, the son of King Alfador of Baltia, is given care of the legendary sword Warsong in order to battle the forces of the evil Dalsis empire. A highly regarded series of RPGs from a company not noted for such games.

This is generally considered to be the best strategy-oriented RPG for the plaform with the possible exception of Vixen 357, which uses the same engine. Both have good graphics and decent sound, and will keep fantasy RPG fans suitably entertained.

It looks and plays like Shining Force but it's much deeper since you control whole armies. It can get rather tedious, but if you have patience, you can master it.

Story:
Story

Following from the events of Wizardry III: Legacy of Llylgamyn, Heart of the Maelstrom begins after a period of peace brought about through the use of L'Kbreth's Orb is shattered when the powers of chaos literally begin to emerge into the world. These unnatural energies are especially focused in a series of tunnels beneath the Temple of Sages in Llylgamyn, fittingly called the Maelstrom. Adventurers, namely the player party, are recruited to journey into these caverns and track down a means of summoning a being known as the Gatekeeper who can seal these chaotic energies once more. Unfortunately, he has been imprisoned by a rogue sorceress known as the Sorn.

The classic dungeon crawler RPG series continues in Wizardry II. The sequel to the original Wizardry follows the defeat of the evil Werdna and the return of Mad Overlord Trebor's amulet. Following your party's success in that adventure, they were inducted into Trebor's personal honor guard. Unfortunately this particular honor didn't last very long as Trebor's madness and obsession with the amulet and preventing Werdna's return drove him to suicide.

With both Trebor and Werdna dead all seemed well within the kingdom of Llylgamyn. Unfortunately this peace didn't last very long. Besides Werdna, it seems that there was another evil fella living in Llylgamyn named Davalpus. With Werdna dead and out of the limelight, Davalpus felt it was time to make his move. He stormed the castle, slaughtered the royal family, and declared himself supreme dictator for life.

Don't worry, this game isn't about preparing for a big final battle with Davalpus. That's already been done for you. The Prince of the land fought and killed Davalpus using the legendary Staff of Gnilda and wearing the armor of the Knight of Diamonds. Unfortunately the god Gnilda, more than a bit ticked off with all this bickering, took the staff back and placed it deep within his heavily guarded six-level temple. Since the staff's power protects the land from invasion by hostile outlanders, someone will need to venture into the temple and get it back along with Gnilda's blessing. That someone is you.

In order to hold the staff one of your party user will need to retrieve all five pieces of the legendary armor and become the Knight of Diamonds. Only then may they quest for the staff and return it to it's rightful place. But beware, each of the the armor pieces is a living entities and will not be taken without a fight.

Wizardry II uses the same basic engine and graphics as the previous game. Players have the option of transferring characters from the previous Wizardry, or generating new characters from scratch.

The first Wizardry game was one of the original CRPG dungeon crawlers, and stands along with Ultima and Might & Magic as one of the defining staples of the genre. You generate and control a party of up to six different adventurers and send them into a 3D vector dungeon to fight monsters and find treasure.

The game takes place in the domain of Trebor, the titular Mad Overlord. Trebor was once only power-mad, but went off the deep end after he acquired a magical amulet of immense power only to have it stolen from him by his nemesis the evil arch-mage Werdna. Werdna, not quite sure how to use the amulet properly, accidentally causes an earthquake which creates a ten-level dungeon beneath Trebor's castle. To avoid looking silly, Werdna declares the dungeon to be the new lair for him and his monster hordes. Trebor, not to be outdone, declares the labyrinth is in fact his new Proving Grounds where adventurers must prove themselves for userhip in his elite honor guard (and incidentally retrieve his amulet in the process). Thus your goal in the game is to descend to the tenth floor of the labyrinth, defeat Werdna, and retrieve the fabled amulet.

In his never ending quest for power, the Shadow King has released his evil minions on a peaceful land. As young Merlin, it is your job (with a little help from the Lady of the Lake) to destroy the king's forces and restore order and peace.

As you travel throughout the land, you can pick up items and weapons such as matches, combs, shooting stars, lightning bolts, silver stars, snow flakes, air bubbles, balloons, bubble wands, flowers, and lanterns. These and other items help you do such things as fly, attack the enemies, clone your image, and beautify yourself to distract the enemies. With an assist from the Lady of the Lake, you can use gems to create magical items. Flowers can also be used to create magic.

The good guys in this game include: mermaids, who can provide you with air, an elf, who can give you a new rune for your staff, and Melody, a fair maiden who Merlin is most taken with. The Shadow King's minions include: the dumb, but brutal Oinkmers, the hooded Shroom Goons, the man-eating Vile-Ettes, the thorny Snarl Shoots, and the overly fertile Spyder. At the end of the game, you must defeat the Shadow King himself.

This is the second game in the long-running Ys action RPG series. A bright light shot up from Dahm Tower in the end of the first game, and our hero Adol Christian is awakened by a young girl who finds him lying on the ground. She introduces herself as Lilia and tells Adol he is in the land of Ys. Finally he was able to establish a connection between his world and this mysterious land! But finding the gateway to Ys is not enough: Adol must stop the evil entity that his archenemy Dark Fact served. And his foes already know where he is...

This game is a direct sequel to what PC players know as Ancient Land of Ys (of which the original NES version was simply called Ys), and is also the same game (story-wise) as the second part of Ys Book I & II for TurboDuo. The game play utilizes an unusual action RPG combat style, where you don't press any attack button, but run into your enemies in order to cause damage. You should choose the angles and the measure of contact with the enemy carefully, otherwise you'll be dead. You can (and should) level up, perform quests for village people, gather money, and upgrade your weapons and inventory, like in any other RPG.

The third installment in the popular Ys series of RPGs (and the only one for the Genesis) finds our heroes traveling to the town of Kenai, where a mysterious evil has taken root.

Great graphics, great sound, good gameplay, and an intriguing plot (albeit a gawdawful long intro to wade through - good thing you can skip it). This is one of the all-time best Genesis RPGs, and is a heckuva lot better than that laughable SNES version....

Wanderers From Ys is an action role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom Corporation. It is the third game in the Ys series.

Plot:
The opening scene informs the player that it has been three years since the events of Ys I and Ys II. Adol Christin and his friend Dogi are on a journey to Dogi's hometown of Redmont. Upon arriving, they learn that the townspeople are being threatened by men from nearby Valestein Castle. Always ready for adventure, Adol decides to assume the task of helping them out.

Gameplay:
The gameplay of Ys III is a sharp departure from the previous two games. Instead of the previously used top-down camera view, Ys III has become a side-scrolling platform-action styled game. The combat has also changed: the player must push a button to make Adol swing his sword and attack enemies.

The RPG-style statistics and experience system still exists in Ys III, however. A new addition to this area is the "ring" system: Adol can acquire and equip rings that provide special effects while equipped. A new attribute, "Ring Power", is consumed while rings are active.

Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is an action role-playing game developed for the Super Famicom, and is the fourth game in the Ys video game series.

Plot:
Ys IV is an interquel which takes place in between the events of Ys II and Ys III: Wanderers from Ys.

After returning to the town of Minea, Adol comes across a message in a bottle. The message is from the far-off land of Celceta, asking for help. Adol decides to take the offer and boards a ship to the land of Celceta.

Gameplay:
Ys IV returns to the style of play used in Ys I and II. Adol is viewed from a top-down perspective, and he attacks enemies by running into them to cause damage. Adol gains experience from defeating enemies, and gaining experience serves to raise his strength, as in the previous games. A new Magic system is introduced as well, in which Adol can equip elemental swords to cast various types of attack spells.

You are Adol Christian, a red-haired adventurer and expert swordsman. One day you encounter a fortuneteller who sends you on a quest to find information about the six books of Ys. It appears that there was once an ancient land called Ys, whose secret was sealed in those six books. Before long you learn that the six books were all stolen by the evil wizard Dark Fact (Malificus in PC version). It is your task to defeat the villain and to discover the secret of Ys!

"Ys" is an action RPG with original combat: instead of pressing the "attack" button, you simply run into the enemies you encounter. You do more damage if you run into them from the back or from the sides - a head-to-head collision might result in Adol's death if the monster is stronger than him. You gain gold and experience points for defeating your foes; once you have gained enough experience, you level up and become stronger. You can buy and equip swords, armor, shields, and other accessories.

Zelda II is seen by some as Nintendo's take on the tale of Sleeping Beauty.
Shortly after the events of The Legend of Zelda, near Link's 16th birthday, he notices a strange mark on the back of his left hand. He seeks out Impa, and she tells him the legend of Zelda?. Long ago, the King of Hyrule ruled the land of Hyrule with a son and daughter. When the king died, the Triforce should have passed onto the Prince. However, he could only inherit the Triforce in part, and thus sought the remaining pieces. When he learned that Zelda knew of their location, he questioned her. She refused, and so the Prince sent his wizard to question her. When he failed, the wizard became furious and cast a sleeping spell on Princess Zelda. The wizard fell dead, but the Prince was left grieving. He had Zelda moved to a room in the North Castle and had her placed on her bed with a red rose in her hand, and hoped that one day, she would awaken and return to life. To ensure this event was never forgotten, the Prince ordered all females born to the royal family from that point on to be named Zelda.

Impa also gives Link an old chest containing six crystals and an old message that claims that the restoration of the crystals to the six palaces in Hyrule will open the path to the Triforce of Courage. Taking the crystals, Link sets out to restore them to their places, defeating powerful palace guardians and learning magic spells to aid him as he seeks to find the Triforce of Courage and break the enchantment on the sleeping Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda: Parallel Worlds is a fan overhaul of A Link to the Past using new graphics, new music, a new overworld and underworld, and a new storyline.

Story:
You are a treasure hunter from another land. You moved here with your friend, in order to find treasure of course!
A lot of things started to happen not long after you moved here.
Seven people "appeared out of nowhere" and begin questioning about the Parallel Tower and the inhabitants of Kakariko Village. The Parallel Tower was situated in the Sky Islands northeast of the village. The legend behind the Parallel Tower was long lost, and only the elders knew the legend.

Word begins to spread out about the Parallel Tower, and people started to learn about the legend again. The legend says it was a by product of a war long ago and a power, known as the Triforce, existed at the top of it. It is said that nobody knows about the clues as to how to get to the top of the Tower. The seven people are said to know about these "clues" to the Tower.
